I figure an excellent way to gauge the difference between the two trailers is to look at the Tank reactions.

What I'm seeing as the difference between the two threads is much, MUCH more negativity with the ROC trailer.

It seems to me that the main difference between the two is that many feel that the Retaliation trailer is a much better representation of what a big screen GI JOE movie should look like.

The first 20 pages of the retaliation thread are nearly universal in approval by hisstankers, where the first 20 pages of the ROC thread are mixed at best.

There is much hate of many elements in the ROC thread, whereas the Retaliation thread seems to have been met with great approval. Whereas Channing and Wayans are greatly despised, I see little, if any, of that for the ROCK or other cast members.

this is a big part of it. i loathed the aesthetics of roc across the board, everything looked cheap and goofy and thin.
conversely, the new one looks pretty cool, visually, which about all we have to go on at this point.

Not sure you can consider it an equal comparison. We had Resolute before ROC, now we have Resolute followed by ROC and Renegades. But, trying to compare them evenly on a just a couple points; Snake-Eyes with or without a mouth, power armor or no power armor, traditional Cobra commander or new CC, and Marlan Wayans or the Rock.

I wonder if people would have been as opened for the Rock playing Roadblock if we didn't Wayans in ROC.

They shouldn't have strayed so far from the original in ROC...

I'll just point out that The ROC trailer thread has only 17 pages while the Retaliation thread has 57 pages (my settings allow the maximum amount of posts per page) That's 40 extra pages of people talking about the movie. That alone should prove that more people are excited about the Retaliation trailer and that it was better than the ROC trailer.

As for the movie being better than ROC, it probably will be, but we'll just have to wait till next summer to find out

I too didn't like the Ripcord change simply because it changed a character I liked due to his interesting story arc in the old Marvel comic. I was also skeptical of Marlon Wayans casting. But you know what? He did a decent job. Especially when he was paired with that talking corpse Channing Tatum.

I was a bit surprised by The Rock being cast as Roadblock, but the whole Ripcord incident I think softened the skepticism a bit. Oh, and the fact The Rock is a bonafide action movie star.

I never cared about the Wayans casting from a race standpoint. I never knew or cared much about Ripcord the fig or character, so I just didn't care what race he was in the movie. My concern was his acting chops in a Joe film, but as you say, he actually did well in his role. Tatum was the chump of the bunch by far.

I think it looks really good, especially seeing they really heard us about the Snake Eyes Costume (which was so comical in the first). We are seeing more realsitic cobra troops, a way better casting of some power house actors (especially teh guy playing firefly, I think he is awesome aside form the Rock and Willis). I like seeing actors in a movie that I like to watch. Vosloo was the only actor in ROC I liked aside form Quaid (wish he had a better role but that was Sommers fault), and Wayanes is just....iiick...Wayanes (still cant get past him in White Chix...forever type cast as some awful mutant women to me). Plus we get to see a different directors take on the trash Sommers left us with. So all of that can really amp somone up who is looking for a fresh start.

The positve I take is there is no Marlane Wayanes (you have no idea how exicted that makes me about this movie)...and there are a bunch of people in the movie I have yet to know so it's great. If we had Breaker, Scarlett Heavy Duty and Hawk back well we would know exaclty how they were cause we have ROC for that reference...I am sure DUke will not be much better, he can;t be worse then he was in ROC...we know how good Bhun Lee and Ray PArk are (just going to have way ebtter atire this time and NO LIPS@ lol)...and then theres Cobra Commander = NO FISH BOWL YESSS!@ he has the proper helmet, all they eneded to do with ROC its a new set of writers and directors with a different mission to make Joe better...not worse...
