GI Joe 2 has a lot of holes to fill

I know all we have gotten in the 2 min trailer, but I am wondering if they dont plan on just "forgetting" most of what happened in ROC. I am not sure how they are going to motivate Zartan to forget that he used to work for Destro and bust out Cobra Commander when he has seemingly absolute control over the White House. I mean, why bother? And I can't remember the actor's name who is playing Zartan as President of the US, but god do I hate him and can't believe there is a chance that we'll get an action figure of him.

Storm Shadow worked for Destro, and I dont think at any time in ROC did CC tell SS, "hey you work for me now". The only resources I saw CC have was 2 Neo Vipers, an escape sub, and a wounded Destro. Not much of an empire. Meanwhile GI Joe downsized and went from a major base in the middle of the desert with gigantic pools of spring water for their sub testing, their mother sub and aircraft carrier, to a smaller unit that is wiped out with an airstrike. Then again I have no idea who the heck they were using all that hardware against BEFORE Destro came along either. Maybe a downsize in this economy WAS in order.

Not trying to bring down GI Joe 2, but it just makes me hate ROC even more. It really looks like GI Joe 2 has the right peeps, atmosphere, etc, but its held down by the idiocy of ROC.

I am glad to see Firefly, even he is just Firefly in name. I wish for one minute he at least wear's his traditional mask at some point. CC looks great and how he always should have. And God I hope there isnt any mention of 'Rex Lewis'. Zartan in his traditional look would be nice too, but will prob have to wait for Pursuit of the Retaliation of Cobra after the movie comes out.

I predict a reboot in 5 years. They are already rebooting Spiderman!!! Then they will get it right.

Also, as cool as it looks, so dumb with the cobra flag on the White House. If anyone tried to do that, every redneck would be grabbing their shotgun and on their way to DC in their pickup trucks. I certainly would be. Unless CC has installed nanobots in every serviceman and woman, I highly doubt they would let that happen too.

Well then I guess dont call it GI Joe 2, and definately dont call it Retaliation, which is a follow up to the events in the first movie. If Cobra was already more established like in the IDW series, then I can see jumping in and out without tie ins...

And as I said, my real problem isnt with GI Joe 2, glad GI Joe is getting a second chance... but just wish they did a complete reboot than continuing the ROC storyline.

So you hated the first movie but you want them to continue that story line so the holes get filled in. OK. I don't care if everyone walks on screen and makes 0 mention of the last film. I'm OK with that. I wasn't a big fan of the story so if they leave a lot of the poor plot lines in the past, I'm happy.

no, he isn't talking about the end of ROC, he is talking about the entire ROC and how CC being in charge would need to be addressed because why would everyone follow him when they previously followed Destro?

it is simple. anyone who watched ROC can easily surmise that Rex was pulling strings all along, and that they were all working for him even if it appeared they were working for Destro. you can simply catch anyone up who is so slow that such a plot device was beyond their comprehension with one or two sentences at the most when they acknowledge CC.

Destro wasn't trying to conquer the world.
Destro was/is an arms dealer. HE was working for Lewis in the beginning, because it gave him a lot of profit.

It makes sense there's no MARS Vipers, since the whole place was blown up and sunk.

In the new trailer we see one of the Joe teams getting blasted. Since there's no Hawk or any other "old" character, it's easy to assume The Pit it's still somewhere. (a nice trick they pulled...new stuff without negating the first movie), since it was undercover and there can be more teams.

This movie focuses on other characters and places.
It's like X-Men Gold and Blue team...tied by Wolverine/Snake Eyes.

In the new trailer we see one of the Joe teams getting blasted. Since there's no Hawk or any other "old" character, it's easy to assume The Pit it's still somewhere. (a nice trick they pulled...new stuff without negating the first movie), since it was undercover and there can be more teams.


AND we're told in the trailer that the Joes get disbanded and locked up. That's why the only ones we see are Roadblock/Flint/Lady Jaye because they were thought to be killed in the attack that killed/coma/disappeared Duke, the only attack we see in the trailer.

So the other Joes (Hawk, Breaker, Heavy Duty) can still be alive and well, just imprisoned and out of this particular fight.

Or they're killed off-screen on seperate attacks on the PIT.

I can :0 you loose 98% of the start of the film up to the part where they chnage Zartan into the POTUS and he goes into the mars bunker and takes over. ROC didnt need to happen for most of the show for that single scene lol...I would have prefered them end the first film on the Point of where Zartan had his feet up and whistling and cut out the whole destor and cc in the prison scene...would have made a claner transition,

Well, they can simply ignore RoC, yes.
The main idea (Cobra infiltrating the White House) is already in. There's no real need to continue with the "old" characters.
I'm not sure how far on the plot they'll go; i mean, the Zartan/President seems complicated to solve in this movie alone. They're probably focusing on a side story with side characters, and we might get a conclusion on a third movie, in which the "old" characters might return.

If some guy puts a cobra flag, or any flag other than the American one over the white house, do you really think enough of the US Government - from Congress to the FBI to Justice Department to whoever, to Bob and Sue Ellen in Oklahoma are going to sit there and take it? A country of 300 million + with more guns than anywhere on the planet is going to sit back and let a few members of an "outlawed" unit fight this on their own? Come on. Maybe in 1933 Germany but definately not in 2012.

Because I am a natural pessimist when it comes to G.I. Joe Live Action stuff, are we even sure that the guy we saw in the trailer *is* Cobra Commander? Well a hundred million of those people wouldn't care so long as they go to work, get their pay check and have their normal TV to watch. All Cobra has to do is step up say they have nuclear strike capabilities, they plan on leaving everything as is and will even lower taxes most people wouldn't care. Until I hear that Cobra is taking control and turning the nation into a death camp, I can easily believe they could take control.

And if Cobra could recruit enough soldiers to take control of the un-manned weapons platform and enough of the air forces to blast the US military into dust then there is not much else to stop them. Between active and reserve status personal our total troop number is only 3 million. I could easily believe Cobra could find that many troops from the other 6.2 billion people on the planet and with advanced armaments they could easily wipe out the US military and pacify the rest of the masses.

The whole flag over the White House thing being shown, out of context, is to get people going "my god, how did that happen".

It's a trailer, it's meant to get people to see the movie.

The story, the context, isn't shown and you'll have to see the movie to get that part.

And it's too early to say if it'll be a good story or bad story, but that's not what trailers are there to show.

I know all we have gotten in the 2 min trailer, but I am wondering if they dont plan on just "forgetting" most of what happened in ROC.

Storm Shadow worked for Destro, and I dont think at any time in ROC did CC tell SS, "hey you work for me now". The only resources I saw CC have was 2 Neo Vipers, an escape sub, and a wounded Destro. Not much of an empire. Meanwhile GI Joe downsized and went from a major base in the middle of the desert with gigantic pools of spring water for their sub testing, their mother sub and aircraft carrier, to a smaller unit that is wiped out with an airstrike. Then again I have no idea who the heck they were using all that hardware against BEFORE Destro came along either. Maybe a downsize in this economy WAS in order.
