View Full Version : So I just got a new job!

Well, I had been doing the part time job/part time bizz thing, but it was getting a little hard to keep up on things, so I went out and applied for a full time job that I was told about some time ago.
I applied for it about a month ago, and just heard back from them yesterday, so I went in for my interviews and pretty well got hired on the spot.
So now out of nowhere, I have become a correctional officer for the county I live in lol. They just opened up a new jail system in here, and some of my background in television actually fit the mold for some of the duties I will be performing, everything from monitor duties (watching prisoners, operating PTZ cameras, and checking visitors and what not) to actual guard duties/watch tours.
I'm friggin pumped! I went through some training yesterday with the jail system, how to operate all the gates and prisoner holding cells, to all kinds of uber-cool stuff that I probably shouldn't go into too much detail.
I even get a pimp ass uniform to boot!
It's definately a lot more intimidating than I was first thinking it would be, but luckily I do have some various CQ combat training from back in the day, so its almost more exilirating than intimidating now.
So now Im gonna be an official government employee, pretty good starting pay, and hellacious benifits and retirement packages.
I do get nervous over the fact that I will probably be running into a lot of old friends on the other side of the bars, being that I was born and raised in this area, but I feel I will adapt well to it soon enough.
Huzzah!

I remember apply for this position before.
As I read the disclaimer "Should you become a hostage, there will be NO negotiation." I immediately fold. Sure the pay is very good, but I just can't picture myself being a correctional officer babysiting the convicts!
That's is just disgusting! Our justice system is bit too weak for my taste.

Awesome. That can be a tough job. I have two uncles who work at a maximum security prison here in Ohio. It is where all the people are put to death in Ohio. It is really intense there and they have had some riots. This job is not something to be taken lightly. So take it serious and watch your back. Not trying to be negative, my two uncles have worked there for over 20 years and have never had any real problems.
Hope everything works out for you!

Basically, yeah. I actually applied for a more techy position, but after I applied, they decided to do rotations on the different shifts, so that means Ill be dealing in the other parts as well. It does sound like I do have to go through some more training (the new jail doesnt open up for a couple of weeks), but all in all, I applied, and they hired me.
However, I do have quite a background with the techy positions, so Im sure thats where I will initially see most of my time.

I appreciate it man, and yeah, I have no intentions on letting my guard down. I used to help teach self defense seminars a few years ago, now I know that means nothing in terms of what I would use or not, but it means something in how serious I can be when the time calls for it.
I know it's gonna be tense, and I actual welcome that, I always seemed to work well in areas where you couldn't be lolly-gaggin around.
Some of the guys I trained with yesterday used to work at supermax facilities, and were tellin me stories all day. Pretty much the rule of working there "Check your compassion at the door". So yeah, I imagine that Im gonna be losing some friends with this job, however I do feel it will make me a better person, in terms of just taking things a bit more serious and getting a good hold on things overall. I needed a wake up for a while, and I completely welcome the seriousness of this.
I always wanted to get into the military, but just never did, but I always wanted that feeling of being part of a working group, an order system, and that feeling of knowing your place.

The sad thing was, the other CO's had all kinds of initiation plans for me, and the day got so busy with court, that this was the least of it, and something I get to look forward to with every new long term booking! I knew I would be doing this kind of stuff, but you know, the first time is always the toughest lmao.
I am diggin it though, i can see where this kinda job can F with ya, but ya know, so far so good, Ive been handling the "rough" stuff ok so far.
Ask me in a month though haha.
