as i open new figs, i have decided to post an "opinionated review" of each figure...this is "The Jeaux Report"
this edition of The Jeaux Report covers everyone's favorite DNA-smörgåsbord...Serpentor.
now i never owned serpentor as a kid. and to be honest with you, i really dont know much about the story behind the cobra emperor...save that his existence is thanks to dr. mindbender and the aforementioned DNA-smörgåsbord culled from past attemptors of Global Domination. i guess the notion of ruling the world, as a kid, bored me.
there isnt much love for this 25th version of serpentor, thats for sure. and whereas i dont "hate" him...cuz if i did, i certainly wouldnt own him, he doesnt top the list of favs.
i like the sword. in a world of high tech joes vs. cobras, such a primitive weapon just seems more menacing. if you run into a guy on the battlefield brandishing a sword, youd probably stop for a second, the notion being...if this guy is gutsy enough to haul a sword against my gun, sucker probably knows how to use it quite well. of course, you harken back to indiana jones' methods, you look again at your gun.....but i digress. i will address the double blade below...
i do wish he had a scabbard for the sword, but i likely would not use it. the outfit is okay to me...but, without looking back at vintage pics, i have no clear vision of what he originally looked like.
i like like th e removable helmet, which i didnt even know he had until i was looking at pics of him online, nourishing my decision of ownership...or not.
is it all roses though? never is...........(if you can call the above "roses")
I HATE CLOTH ON ACTION FIGURES!!!
with that out of the way, its no different on serpentor. miniture capes, tunics, pants etc. NEVER fall the way cloth would on a real human. so, if you note in my pics, ive taken liberties with my
serpentor and trimmed the "billowy" edges of his cape, running the edges straight up to his shoulders. the result is a tolerable solution for something that i find totally intolerable.
now for that double-sided blade...
it is my firm 99% belief that it was missing from the factory. i open my figs at my computer desk, usually between midnight & 3am on a weekend. no one else is awake, and the dog is out like a
light. i looked for that blade for 10mins on the floor, on the desktop and even the kitchen, thinking it may have fallen
into a fold of my shirt, and fallen when i went to get some liquid refreshment. i thought back and determined that i cant 100% confirm it was even there when i bought the figure...oh well.
as as far as the sword...crooked....had to bust out the candle.
the cape clasps arent sitting like i think they should on his shoulder...and my way would be--flat. however, seeing as the cape only seems to be reomovable - once - im just gonna live with it.
oh, and yes, he has a lame expression on his face too.
so, on the 1-5 Yo Jeaux! scale...
Serpentor gets a 2.5/5.0
