Well, I broke down and went to the theater and watched good ole Death Race with Jason Statham. I must admit, that it a pretty good flick. Non-stop action, excellent wrecks, and they even have a DREADNOK!! For those of you who want to go watch it .. should. I think I will buy it when it comes out on DVD, but first things first.. SUPER DUPER SPECIAL DELUXE EDITION OF THE DARK KNIGHT.

Actually it is based off DR2000. There is a Frankenstein, Machine Gun Joe, and a few others. It actually says in the credits.. Based off of Death Race 2000. It's a good flick.

I NEED to see this. The AutoMovie genre is by far one of my favorites. I just bought a bootleg dvd of 2000 3 years ago and have watched it quite a few times. Corman new how to make a simple but fun movie like Grand Theft Auto and Eat My Dust too. I don't expect it to be original Vanishing Point or Gone in 60 Seconds type of quality, but I hope it kicks much ass.

I liked the movie alot. In some ways it was better than the original. (action sequences) I wish they kept the original concept, but the prison system worked for me. but all in all a good movie. Keith Carradine(original Frankenstein in Death Race 2000) did the voice over for the 1st frankenstein in Death Race. Machine Gun Joe was in it. I thought it was funny with the "Power Ups" located on the track.

I thought the same thing. But it wouldn't be much of a race of they started blowing everything to smithereens after the green light.

Wasn't that the basis of the entire Twisted Metal series?

BTW, I've heard from others that, like so many modern aborti... err... adaptations, that they lost a lot of the political and social satire and commentary. Big surprise, as movies get more technically brilliant, the scripts get more dumbed down. If anybody can tell me I'm wrong I'd appreciate it. I just don't want to see a movie that's one big car-crash with nothing under the surface.

Probably has to do with the old death race video game. running people over creating tombstones and what not with major national outrage.

Here is the wiki entry on it:

Death Race - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_Race)

I remember playing it A LONG time ago.

Mass Destruction, Ultra-Violence, straight forward plot of killing for Ratings, whats not to love? And Jason Statham running suckas down and blasting fools into chunks of blood sausage? I love it.

I went into this movie with no real expectations towards either acting or plot. I was expecting cool racing and action. I got exactly what I was expecting and thouroughly enjoyed the hell out of this movie.

Yes... it does say in the opening credits that it was based on Corman's DR2k. Corman is even listed as one of the Executive Poducers... so he definitely had a hand in this. It does lack the satire from the first... and IMO, it plays more like a sequel to the original than a rewrite or re-imagining... especially with the way 'Frankenstein' is played up.

My favorite was the racing itself. The cars in the original were very stylized in favor of the individual drivers. The cars in this were out of the Road Warrior. The Mustang Fast-back was gorgeous... Machine Gun Joe's Dodge Ram was awesome... even 14K's Porsche... the re-imagining of the cars was just awesome!

If you even had an inkling about seeing this movie... do it.

I saw it last night... It was entertaining and lots of action... Acting was alright...

But it was also really dumb... The cars they built for the movie are so far from drivable. I sorry, there is no way that a Mustang with a 6in steel plate on the rear could even drive down the street...

But I knew that it was going to be "Hollywood" fake... so I just sat back and got amusement out of it...

I give it an ok rating...

Remeber Roadblasters (http://www.madmaxmodels.com/roadblasters.html)? Yeah, that's all I could think of while watching this. Then we had the added bonus of powerups like in Mario Kart :)

I've never seen the original movie but from the way people talk about it, I may like it better than this version
