I'm new to customizing. I see alot of 1/18 figs weapons with great looking slings, does anyone have any tips or pointers on what to use and how to make them?

I've been using these little plastic hair ties that you can get at any store. They're thin, black plastic bands. You can tie them to the stock as a one-point sling. Not perfect, but they look pretty good and are the best I've got for now. Marauder (marauderinc.com) makes weapons with two-point slings but only certain guns. If you come up with something better, let me know.

What I bought are Goody's, from the "hair" section at Target. That's the only kind of gotten. They're real cheap so it's no problem to try it. Getting them onto the guns is the hard part. You know when you have a rubber band around something and you loop it in on itself to make kind of a know? I did that. I tried cutting the bands and gluing them to make the slings but the super glue just wouldn't take the plastic.

I save the plastic rubber band-like things that most action figures come with in their packaging now. If you've bought the Joes vehicles, you know what I'm talking about. You can paint them, cut them to a suitable length, and superglue them to the weapon. Not perfect, but better than nothing.

I've made slings out of narrow strips of electrical tape, with the stick-um removed with Goo Gone. I make the mounting rings out of some silver craft wire I got at wal-mart.

One of my kitbashes, with a M60 on a two point sling, and a modified XM8 on a single point sling:

Dang Greyryder, those are very nice. They look very professional. Much better than what I've been making. Got the time to give us more specifics on the process? How you attach the strips to the rings and the rings to the guns, etc.

Yea, the Marauder slinged weapons are only on the ebay store right now.

that electric tape idea is a good one i dig i dig !! what if you put two pces of tape sticky side to each other then cut thin strips that would eliminate the stickyness, but it might make it a lil thicker.

You can get this stuff at Michaels (Walmart sells it too in the crafts dept). At Michaels, it's called Rexlace. Forget what it's called at Walmart though. Comes in all different colors too...

Crap! I totally forgot about this thread. Sorry. Seeing some pretty good work, here.

The straps I just fold the ends over the ring, and glue the piece of tape to itself. I try to be carefull not to glue the sling directly to the ring, so that it can move around more.

The rings I make with a piece of wire sticking off at a 90 degree angle, to work as a mounting post, and glue into a hole I drill in the gun. The smallest drill bit I've got, is out of a Dremel drill bit kit. It's a 1/32" bit. It's bigger around than the wire I use, but it gives plenty of room for super glue in the hole. A lot ot times I'll gently mark the post up with the wire cutters, to give the glue more texture to bite to.

A lot the rings I make are flat rings. I make them by forming the wire around the tip of flat head jeweler's screw driver. On some guns, I make a small round ring, to go between the sling and the ring on the gun. Round rings can be made by forming the wire around a small drill bit.

An easier source of mounting rings, would to get eye pins, and jump rings from the crafts section. I find them to be a little larger than I'd like, but they're less agravating than trying to form a tiny piece of wire into just a specific shape.

That's great, thanks a lot for the tips. I'm going to get some supplies and give this a shot cause like I said, what I have isn't bad, but this is a whole lot better. Very ingenious idea.

i dug this one out of the graveyard, but i just got some supplies and gonna try this out...

something of note i found at Michales...if you look in the necklace/bracelet making section they have lots of useful supplies...little tiny rings, tiny clamps, and very thin flat narrow black leather that could stnad in well for the REXLACE...it's much more flexible and thin, but not as cheap...
