Does anyone know if these were released on DVD and if not has anyone heard rumors or otherwise about potential releases?

I'd really like to complete my set with Season 2 Part 2, Season 3 and Operation Dragonfire...I can't seem to find them anywhere!!

New York, NY (August 18, 2008) - For 3 seasons, millions of viewers loyally tuned in to watch the drama unfold as modern day heroes G.I. Joe fought for freedom against Cobra, a ruthless terrorist organization. The first two seasons of the award winning series realized huge success upon their limited DVD releases. Hasbro Inc. today is proud to announce that the third and final season of the show (produced by DIC) will never see the light of day, as loyal fans around the world have cried out as one saying "Dear God Hasbro, please destroy those episodes in a fire!". As Hasbro prides themselves on catering to the loyal customers of the G.I. Joe franchise, they are pleased with this decision. A top executive at the company was quoted as saying "After we reviewed the final episodes produced by DIC, we finally understood what the fans were saying. Those episodes are absolutely horrible!" The DVD release for the third and final season will therefore never see the light of day, much to the relief of millions of Joe fans.

:)

Not to be a total smart***, the only way I have found to obtain these episodes uses something that rhymes with tipworrent, but you will not be very pleased with the quality as they appear to have been ripped from a shoddy VHS copy.

Just wanted to post this in case someone does not know this rule:
5.No links to illegal downloads or copyrighted materials.
This includes MP3's, games, pirated software, movies, full book or full comic scans.

So far so good but like I said, this is just a reminder to the site rule.

Thanks for the replies. If anyone has a tap on Operation Dragonfire, Season 2 part 2 or Season 3 please PM, email me or drop me a line at my site forum errantentertainment.com. If the DVD's aren't available then I don't mind owning the VHS version to tide me over. I know this stuff isn't really sought after and is considered dumb by most but I haven't seen any of it since it originally aired on television and I'd like to watch them again.

Oh BTW, I already have Chunnel, El Dorado, and Infested Island of Season 3 on VHS so I'd be looking for the others if possible.

'Chunnel' is the only DIC episode (that I've seen) that I didn't like due to yet another embarassing portrayal of the British. But, to be fair, the Sunbow vision of the UK ("Excalibur") was as bad.

I recently picked up the whole run of the DiC episodes at a comic show. I'd never seen them before, and was really curious.

They're bad.

Like "Star Wars Holiday Special" bad.

The only thing remotely good about those cartoons is at least Cobra Commander's voice was that of the original. Other than that... JUST PLAIN HORRIBLE.

It's a good rule.

I have a question. Purely hypothetical. Let's say someone happened to have bootleg DVDs of something someone was asking for. Would that person be breaking any rules by replying with a simple "Hey I may be able to hook you up. PM me."?

Season 3....as it should have been!

I waited and waited for new episodes after GI Joe the Movie and after Transformers had their "Rebirth", but there were none.

BUT there appears to have been plans in the work for another season and perhaps even scripts were written. Some of these scripts might have been bought and used by DIC (since some of the DIC episodes were written by Sunbow writers). But most of the ideas and intentions for this unproduced last season of GI Joe never made to the screen.

G.I. Joe story editor Buzz Dixon had this to say in an 1987 article about the G.I. Joe cartoon:

What will happen to G.I. Joe and Cobra on television in 1987?

"Changes," Buzz Dixon said. "Expect Cobra to be dramatically restructured. It will not resemble the Cobra of before. There will be big changes with G.I.Joe. The Rawhides and Renegades will be introduced, and will play a big part. Another thing is that 1987 will premiere a whole new series of high-tech vehicles for both Joes and Cobra. They will reflect the big upwards shift in the nature of the G.I.Joe/Cobra conflict"

From G.I. Joe Yearbook # 3 March, 1987
I had the opportunity to ask Mr. Dixon more about this when I interviewed him for the UGIJCW:
Jodie: Were there ever any plans for a third season of G.I. Joe, with the characters from the movie?

Buzz: Mike Hill, who was on staff at the time, made a brilliant proposal to send the Joes off after a somewhat new foe called The Coil for the never made Sunbow season three (there was a DIC season three, but they never bothered to ask for any input from me or Flint or Steve and frankly, we were just as glad). As I recall, Mike's idea was that following the Movie, Cobra would be shattered as a world-wide organization. Under the guidance of Tomax and Xamot, a new organization called The Coil (much more criminal in nature than military) would be formed, picking and choosing among the best of the surviving Cobra units. Cobra-La was utterly wiped out, no survivors, except for Cobra Commander, who would be slithering about in the background for the first half of season three as some sinister character of shifting alliances, then be revealed in severely mutated form in the second half. He would be playing the Joes and The Coil against one another in an attempt to destroy both and rebuild Cobra.

Sunbow season three was never made. Hasbro had been funding G.I. Joe out of their own pocket; they got a ridiculous deal from DIC to take over the series and they pretty much let them. The story behind DIC is much too long to go into here; suffice it to say these guys may not have been 100% responsible for the destruction of the animation industry in the late eighties but they sure helped!

The third season we are speaking of are not the DIC episodes!( (which begin with Operation Dragonfire.

As much as i thought season 3 was hoaky as hell it still a continuation of the series as cobra commander is returned to human form and even though its pretty bad it should still be released to have the whole series, not just two seasons.

I agree; it's as much a continuation of the first series as Image/Devil's Due comics were a continuation of Marvel. Regardless of fan reaction.

A good fan project for people wealthier, more talented and more, well, emotionally involved than I am could be to redub some of the DiC (Do it Cheap) episodes into something a bit more watchable. I bet the visual content is there in enough episodes to make something good out of it.

I do enjoy seeing characters and vehicles animated from the later years of GIJOE, though.

i would like for hasbro or whoever to release all the joe series. i personally think the sunbow series was crappy as well, and dont get me started on the movie. i never got to see the dic series and would like to judge it for myself. im a completist and a fan of everything joe,so if im getting 12 dukes figures and a new comic series with the same old characters doing the same old things,i should get the opportunity to to get the dic series. between endless repaints/re-releases of the same figures and a new comic series that will basically be re-doing the marvel series, god forbid if hasbro was to put out somthing new or previously un-released.

The set I was able to get ahold of had the entire DIC and all the Extreme episodes. And I agree with what most said, even if you can get by the somewhat crappy VHS taping, the stories are just aweful. I watched them all once through once I got my set, and the farther I went into the season the worse off the stories got. Operation Dragonfire was a decent mini-series and seemed to me something that the Sunbow writers worked on, but once you get to the regular season episodes it goes downhill from there. Not to mention the new theme song sucked so bad.

"Got to get tough, Yo joe"

Really bad.

Man, I LOVED the DiC series as a kid. Granted, it was cheesy as all get out, but I loved it.

What's not to love about Captain Grid Iron? :D

Any man, that episode with Metal-Head's grandma? AWESOME!

No one other thing. Undoing the move in Cobra Commander is Human(oid) again and Surpentor get's turned into an Iguana and is never seen again! Thankfully there is no mention of Cobra-La as well.

Not possible. All the voices, except for Hawk, Cobra Commander & the Baroness are different, and horribly acted. Where the original had great humor that could be enjoyed by adults and kids... this one seems written for 5-8 year olds.

No it wasn't... I just watched it that one... it was BAD! Every time I hear Metalhead speak, my ears start to bleed. Do you remember the Alcatraz episode where MH was 'haunted'... groan.

But Capt. Grid Iron is one of the few highlights.

The Dic series still beats the pants off of GI Joe Extreme, Sigma 6, and anything else that's come out since. It is not Star Wars Holiday bad, because if it was you would have committed suicide having watched more than a few hours of it. If you can stomache the modern voice acting of oh saaay Digimon, you can handle this. If you can overlook Cobra Commander being sexually harassed by an ape, the use of robot roaches to bug General Hawk's chocolate chip cookies, or Cobra challenging GI Joe to a game of football, you'll find that there are infact redeeming qualities about this show. Episodes like Night of the Creepers, Victory at Volcania, Cobra World and a few others are actually dare I say...good.

the dic series wasnt up to sunbow quality, but it was still gi joe and still better than GI JOE Extremly lame, and Smegma 6.

I watch the DVDS all the time and just laugh alone with the lame jokes and cheesy action lol
