So it arrived two days ago in the factory case and I finally decided to open that today. Its the Blue Shirt Cobra Officer figure. So I take it out the case, and it is nicely packaged tightly with sterophoam protectors and then sealed in clear plastic. The box is mint/pristine! I hate to open it so I need some thoughts on that. I bought it because the detail on these figures are awesome and I wanted to display it. However, I know the longterm value is so much higher factory sealed and the nice packaging has me hesistant to rip open the plastic.

Congrats on your first Sideshow figure. Now you're screwed. You're gonna want them all and that means a lot of cash. I picked up a Sniper from Duffman a couple months back. Now I have the Sniper, Firefly, Stalker,.Beachhead and Dusty. And I want more. All of them. :)
As for opening them, you don't get the true experience until you open them. The detail is incredible. I have mine in a display case and change the pose a couple times a week. It's actually pretty fun. As for the value, you can always put them back in ther box. I've bought one that said it was sealed only to find a clip was already put in his pouch. No big deal the figure was pristine. So basically there is no way to tell if one has been opened anyways. I'm not saying to stuff them back in the packager and try to pass them off as new I'm just saying that people so that now and it's nearly impossible to tell.
Good luck with your collection and welcome to the club!

My first Sideshow was Flint. Was very disappointed in the actual figure once got it.

Got Beachhead and he's sitting in the box.

Had been interested in Dusty, Stalker, Hawk and Rock 'n Roll but because of Flint I just don't want to invest the money.

My first Sideshow was ex Hooded Cobra Commander. I got em off ebay, so he'd already been open. I still got em in his box, haven't gotten a display for em yet. Don't want em getting dusty.

Open that puppy up...these things were meant to be displayed on a shelf, in a glass display, or on your desk.

I use the Deltof display case from Ikea. Perfect size for the figures. A lot of people on here use them. Plenty of pics can be found of them on here (for some reason I don't have mine saved).

They can still sell if displayed properly.

I had every intention of keeping all of the in the box, but one day just decided to open them all, and never regretted it, except for the 8-10 hrs of putting all the pieces on, I opened all but Dusty at once, he came out afterwards.

I got to get me the Detolf from IKEA next time I'm near one. You think dust on your figures and vehicles are bad...don't want to wait to find out on Sideshow figure's clothes and accessories!

Good point.

Prepare to put about an hour into opening each figure. Well at least the ones with tons of accessories. These figures can carry every accessory in various pouches, backpacks, etc. Plus you will find yourself playing with them while you gear them up. It's ok to play with toys :)

The Detolf's fill up too quickly though once you start getting these guys in droves...I am up to 10 and the Big Cobra Throne also barley fits in there so I had to change tactics and enclose a bigger shelf from IKEA. The Bertby turned on its side long ways works (great for a long disdplay setup for 4inch joes too, got 4 setup like that), especially with the enclsoing them, but has very little depth so it too will fill up quick lol

Yeah Ive got 3 Detolfs and they are going to be very close quarters soon.

My 1st SS was the Cobra trooper that I found for $35 and figured why not give them a try for that price. Then I found the officer for $60... then Duke... and then Snake Eyes at SDCC for $85 then there was no turning back.
Now Im up 14 I only passed on Ninja Viper, Desert trooper and sniper but a fellow tanker showed me some really cool setup with them and I am wavering.

I got bit by the Sideshow bug but I have been trying to fight it off.

I have Storm Shadow, Beahhead, Flint, Cobra Officer, Red Ninja and Firefly. I also have Zartan and Cobra Viper on order but I think that will be it for me.

I have opened them to look at the weapons but never put them together so they are now just sitting in their box.

I keep flip flopping on selling them as I don't think I will continue collecting them

I actually stumbled onto Snake Eyes when he first came out on Monkey Depot, I instantly purchased him and now I have all of the Sideshow collectibles they have released. Even if I don't like some of the figures they release I still purchase them. Haven't displayed them yet, still waiting on purchasing a good display case for them, but they look really good in the boxes though. You will definitely get addicted to them, I sold all of my 3 3/4" figures just so I would have the money to purchase all of them. I think when they released Firefly and Dusty, that is when I decided there was no turning back. Much better than the 3 3/4" figures by far, good luck bro! Collecting these babies is way more enjoyable than driving to every Wal-Mart, Target, or Toys-R-Us just to be disappointed when they don't have anything but Arctic Destro warming the pegs and I don't need 50 versions of Snake Eyes, Storm Shadow, Cobra Commander, and Duke

Congratulations PERCULATOR! You definitely should open it to fully appreciate the awesomeness of these figures. Here is a pic of the display cases I am currently using for my figures.

This kind of display I think is perfect for displaying small collections, but as your collection grows you can just buy another.

I've not moved on to any of the Joes but i did just have to move all my sideshow stuff down to the "storage room" but I did but a $9 shelf at walmart to keep from stuffing them in bins:

Sorry, I forgot to post where these display cases were from. These cases can be found at Michael’s arts and crafts stores. These run $19.99 but Michael’s has discounts all the time. I usually wait for a 50% discount so they end up costing around $10 each.

Are those dios in there with some of the figures custom?

Thanks for the comments everyone. The desert officer is due in the mail Monday 11/7/11. I remind myself of my child hood though....I always wanted mom to purchase the bad guys (Cobra). I never liked the Joes....I would have like one joe for every 8 cobra. Lol, so far in the side show line I don't see a joe I want. Red Ninja may be next.

SS joes are awesome... I passed on them initially because I thought they were expensive. Later on while waiting for the next 3 3/4 release I started checking out some collector's dio pics and I became somewhat interested. I decided to get the Red Ninja through SS and got Beachhead on ebay. Ever since then I have gone back and collected all the previous releases. No regrets! I think I enjoy these more now then the 1/18 scale originals. There's tons of cool gear for customizing, which is also easier to do if you're not too good with painting and taking apart small joes like I am. These are tons of fun. I just need to get Snake Eyes.

If you're referring to the dios in his sig, I believe those were from SDCC. Sideshow was showcasing their new figures and environments. They look incredible. As for the Red Ninja, he's next on my list too lol.

I have six detolfs with the led lighting pucks on each level. I can get four sideshow figs on each level. Revolts are the way to go for dialoging sideshow or any type of figs.

And welcome to the sideshow club!

Like drunknmunky mentioned, these pics on my sig are some I took at the San Diego Comic Con 2011 of the GI JOE environment displays at the Sideshow booth. I only have two red ninjas. I bought a second at SDCC for $100, which is not bad. I posted a pic of it with the rest of my GI JOE SDCC July haul here: http://www.hisstank.com/forum/toys/128848-july-hauls-10.html#post2717514
