Maybe someone can help me with a question. I'm writing an article about military applications of lasers and am referencing the laser rifles used in the GI Joe cartoon (it makes sense in context ... kind of). As I've written this brief section, I need to include the location of the Joes' headquarters. Except I never really watched the cartoon - I was mostly just a comics and toys guy.

Can someone tell me where GI Joe Headquarters is located - e.g., buried under a motor pool in a Staten Island army base, hidden deep in the New Mexico desert, etc.?

Thanks!

The original Comic had it under Fort Wadsworth motor pool on Staten Island.

Towards the end of that run it was in Utah...I think.

I think the new IDW was in Nevada.

And the old ARAH cartoon base its never said where.

And if memory serves the Extreme base was a mobile island.

Thanks! I'm interested in the cartoon, since that's where they used laser rifles (if I'm not mistaken). Was it in a generic location like a desert or something, if not an actual specific location?

I don't think they ever said. Wasn't a big secret, since Storm Shadow just strolled in and got the weather dominator part in The Revenge of Cobra, and Cobra Commander just rolled up twenty school buses filled with B.A.T.s in Arise, Serpentor Arise.

In the Marvel comics;
Pit I and II- Underneath the Chaplain's Assistant School Motorpool Ft Wadsworth Staten Island, NY
Pit III-Secret location in Utah desert
In the Devil's Due series;
Pit IV in the Arizona desert near Ft Huachuca
I always assumed the HQ in the Sunbow cartoon was on Staten Island or at least somewhere on the Eastern Seaboard, no idea about the DIC cartoon

ok lets use the episode Pit of Vipers
Flint is sent from GIJOE HQ to Florida everglades where he says they slog through 200 miles of swamp.
Watchdog is shown in a desert area with mesas now that is most likely the Southwest.
Flint goes back to attack Watchdog from Florida by air on a Joe transport plane which makes sense since that is halfway across the country, however if you look at the US map in one of the toons the US is radically different as far as state lines ( see below red rockets glare)
anyway, Flint is at Watchdog, Watchdog sends the boring machine to Joe HQ underground. It does not take too long because it is still night when the machine arrives at Joe HQ. It is also still night when the machine now piloted with Scarlett and Breaker returns to Watchdog after destroying most of Joe HQ. So since Watchdog is in fairly close proximity to Joe HQ using that logic (since I am sure that machine is pretty slow) Joe HQ is probably somewhere in an area with mesas like Arizona, New Mexico, or Nevada.
notice the difference in these two maps in the SAME episode

Red Rocket's glare: Roadblock's Uncle Caleb's restaurant is in Southern CA which is possibly near Joe HQ since at the end a lot of joes are there to celebrate the opening of The Joes Place restaurant. (stretching on that one)

They never said. It's in a desert somewhere based on the scenery.

Except I think it's a different base in the Arise Serpentor Arise season. Or at least a different location.

very true, unless it says in the Sunbow bible somewhere, it was never mentioned to my knowledge.

also the writers may have drawn or "placed" GIJOE HQ where it made the most sense storywise.
need to go to West point in "the Viper" hmm Joe HQ may be close to New York, or if a mission is sent to Extensive Enterprises etc.
I dont think there was much consistency or logic as to where either Joe HQ or Springfield were, it was most likely not even a conscious thought in writing most episodes as is the case in most tv series (the springfield link used earlier)

You can make guessing and assumptions, but no location was given. And many episodes contradict one another on it's location. I would say northern Utah would be a good guess.

It was never really said in the cartoon series... It was always shown in a general area that could be anywhere from new york to san francisco. It all depended on what the writers wanted for that episode.

It is located down the street from someplace where 100 Hiss tanks wouldn't be noticed. That can't be a good neighborhood.

The cartoon is the hardest to pin down. Comics it's definately located, but in the cartoon it depends on episode.

Didn't Ft. Dix also serve as a Joe HQ at one time?

Springfield USA.

No, I honestly have no idea. In the toon (and toon movie) it was always located within 3 minutes of where ever Cobra was attacking worldwide, even the Himalayas.
