25th Anniversary Cobra Viper (Sonic Fighters)

I have a top ten list of guilty GI Joe favorites, and this guy is on that list. Sonic fighters had to be one of the most obnoxious gimmicks in GI Joe. I still shudder thinking of SF Stalker's, "Eat Lead Cobra!!" or SF Cobra Commander's, "I'll Get You!!!", but easily my favorite out of the line was the repainted Viper.

I knew Viper was going to get repainted, as SOON as he came out, so I decided to wait 'til after Joecon and SDCC to make this custom...just to be sure this color scheme wasn't being released anytime soon:)

This is a strait on repaint, I altered the color of the grenades (I'm sorry, even on the original gold grenades just seemed ridiculous:)I painted 'em black with gold accents, and gloves ( I may paint the gloves black, though). It's gold, BTW, the pic doesn't really do it justice. I replaced his rifle with one of those big a$$ 90's era rocket launchers as a nod to the crazy weapons they came with back then.

As garish and eye-jarring as those colors are, you did a great job painting.

I have to say that Viper was one of my favorite cobra troops as a kid. I didn't mind the colors; I just pretended they were Desert-camo versions of the regular Vipers.

Great custom. Hopefully Hasbro will release a Viper like this, at least part of a set somwhere down the line.

As much as I would loathe seeing Hasbro do these, I love you guys for making these 90's customs.

For this one, I would've gone with a more smooth, semi-gloss factory appearance, but it does look good - and as I said, I love seeing these.

I absolutely LOVE that. Of course, I'm a bit biased...loved that figure as a kid, and made him Cobra Commander's personal bodyguard. :D

You did a great job on this. I can think of no greater compliment than ripping it off and doing one too! ;P

that's an ugly ass figure...I love it! I'm all for the ugly Joe figures form the 90's. as soon as I can figure out a recipe for Mirage, you can bet your sweet ass he's getting made.

LOL, he's HIDEOUS, but I had SO much fun with the figure back then! It's cool to know you all used him the same way! yep, he was like the most powerful Viper...he had to be, drawing all that fire!

Personally I love the original. If the Gold had been a bit more spot on to the original I think it would be perfect. Then again who am I to criticize, I can't paint my way out of a paper bag. Good job BTW.

Just like others have said, that brings back memories... I loved that fugly Viper.

And I remember giving him the gun and pack from my old viper. I had almost all the Sonic Fighters. Also had the talking CC, Stalker, and Hawk. "Eat lead Cobra!" ahahahahahahaha.... the good 'ol times...
