I had actually asked this in another thread that started off about BATs, but did not get any answers to it, so I thought I would re-post it as it's own thread -

I have been wondering about something for a while now. I am all about the basic and "essential" types for troops - artic, desert, jungle, dog handler, SEAL, flame thrower, mine detector, ect. Once you start to get into some of the more "goofy" figures, I'm out.

What do we have left that we have not seen in the 25th line Cobra trooper / Viper wise that is left of "essential" troops? We've got snow serps, tele vipes, CGs, eels and desert troops on the way now. Again, without getting into the more "goofy" troops (Alley Vipers, night vipers, BATS, ninjas ect) what do we have left from the RAH line we have not seen in the 25th yet?

I ask partially b/c I am getting tired of chasing hard to find Cobra troops, and then mulitples of them!! :(

It all depends where you draw the line on goofy.
there is:
HEAT Vipers (anti armor troop)
RANGE Vipers (sort of army ranger/survialist)
FRAG Viper (grenadier)
Techno Viper (engineer)
SAW Viper ( Heavy Machine gunner)
thats just what i can think of

Im pretty sure they are done with the army builders from 82 to 86 with the exception of some vehicle drivers like lampray. 87 has some weird drivers in there and they have techno viper. I dont see a need for him though, or a bunch of the off beat vipers.

strato vipers, the need for air officers is at the top of my list. we have ground forces(vipers etc...) and soon to be naval(eels, copperhead). hopefully we get more air power than just the rattler, claw and fangs. strato vipers and the night raven is what cobra needs.

What's goofy about the Night Viper?

Nothing really I guess.

Sorry, I think that it's just I'm a more 82' - 85' kind of guy more than anything else.

I just hate getting into all the off types of vipers that I guess just don't make a lot of sense to me.

I'm kind of the same way with a lot of the Joes too. I know that there are some that I do like post the 87' movie, but some just seem silly, like the Mega Marines, and DEF and stuff like that.

Again, I guess I'm just a pre-Serpentor type of Joe fan is all...........

I'd love a Alley Viper, as long as they didn't have the neon-camo that can be seen from space.

And considering the role UAVs and robots are playing in our modern miltary, I think the BATs are a getting to be a lot less farfetched than you might think. :D

Yeah, the dark camo colors used on the one that came with the rage tank in 97 wernt to bad. In fact a remake of that version would be okay to. Just so long as it has a visor, a sub-machine gun and a shield.
That brings about this bad idea, what if Hasbro decided to create new versions of guys like these?

Also, keep in mind that Hasbro isn't above making stuff up to fill in the ranks. The air troopers and bazooka troopers both add some functionality to Cobra while still looking like a natural extension of their normal ranks. I wouldn't mind seeing a few more types of troopers for different situations, and make my squads a little more diverse.

I'm just going year by year here off of yojoe.com...

I would really like to see a fixed crotch 'n arms red sigil cobra trooper. I still think that needs to be done right and put on a single card release. I would really like to see the officer get a fixed crotch 'n arms too. If they could work these guys into a battle pack for wide release that would be amazing. 1 officer and 4 troops done in the same colors as the original releases, just with the improved sculpts.

The stinger driver falls into this category. Hopefully, with the Stinger coming out later this year or next year, the driver will be much improved.

I could do without Lampreys, but i REALLY want a Moray Hydrofoil.

The Strato Viper is a must. I need some Cobra pilots. I would really like this one single carded, so i have other pilots, but if it had to come with a vehicle, it better come with the night raven.

The Motor Viper is a maybe for me. I think it might work, ont he same level avac works, but the uniforms at this point started to go into Star Wars territory.

Techno Vipers... i loved them as a kid, but again, really sci-fi. I think the Tele-viper is already pushing the sci-fi angle. I would buy it, but i probably wouldn't army build it.

Gyro Vipers, Ice Vipers, Sea Slug maybe... well, not so much for the sea slug.

The WORMS guy, i might get one or two to be field commanders for my army, but that would be it.

Astro-Viper, Hydro-Viper, ... sigh... toxo-viper, ...christ... secto-viper, star-viper not happening in my army. I had all these as a kid, and if they came out i would only get one to have them in my collection, but come on, really...

The Alley-Viper... i like the idea, but i would like to see it in a really, really, REALLY, muted color scheme.
The Night Viper is one of my favorites. This is probably the only great Cobra troop to come out post 1986.

Frag-Viper, HEAT-Viper, Aero-Viper, Track-Viper not happening. Sci-fi is just broken at this point.

Laser-Vipers, Range Vipers, Rock-Vipers no... same reason as above.

SAW Vipers... Same as the alley viper. Not the gigantic laser machine gun or whatever that was.

There are numerous other non-"viper" troopers after 1990, but i think we've just broken all reality (or possible realities) at this point. This is just my personal likes and dislikes, as i'm sure we all have. I think we would all agree that there are some here that need attention, and we would probably buy, but i also think that there are more figures from pre-1986 that need attention first and some resculpting on already released figures needs to be done before we think any further after 1986 (en masse).

They most assuredly will, we'll see them next year in the movie line.

See, now this is what I DO like about what they have added Viper wise to the 25th line that I did NOT like that they did with the RAH line.

Bazooka and Para trooper vipers make a LOT of sense to me and LOOK normal on top of that. Granted I KNOW that the RAH line WAS gear towards kids and playing where as the 25th line is more geared not only towards kids but also collectors. THAT explains all the goof vipers and weird colors of the RAH line, vs the more "serious" / real word kind of Vipers we are seeing like the Bazooka and Para Vipers we never had on the RAH line.

I don't mind these new additions we never had in the RAH line and gladly welcome them and will be happy to chase and buy them. I just CAN'T say and will NOT do the same if we start getting a bunch of old school RAH vipers that just don't make sense to me.

JMHO, YMMV -
