The JOE 25th/modern era is steaming hot right now...but what were all you guys/gals deeply into collecting before the 25th modern era?

I was on and off collecting some of the Transformers. Mainly just the new classics line, and a few of the cooler movie line (my nephews really dug them, so I liked to have a new figure if they ever came over.) Before that, I got a few of the MOTU line, and before that, nothing really.
I have been growing my vintage Joe vehicle collection over the last couple of years. Mainly finding old ones in storage and trying to restore them.
I wasn't real hardcore collecting until the new 25th hit, I was hooked from the get go.

I used to collect Marvel Legends before Hasbro took over the line. I have just about ever figure from the Toy Biz line. That was the last thing I was deep into collecting.
Other than that, I've collected Transformers (all kinds) on and off for many years. Now though, it's all Joe all the time.

Before I added 25th to my collecting I collected mainly Star Wars, some Transformers though mainly classics, Marvel Legends, Marvel Select's Marvel Zombies figures though I'm missing Zombie Hulk, Sin City figures, Dark Ages Spawn: The Samurai Wars, and any figure based on Bruce Campbell.

I was doing the Marvel Legends until Hasbro, and the new Transformers Classic line, and was just about out of toy collecting all together, and then, just when I think I am out, they pull me back in again.

I was collecting these weird pieces of paper with different presidents printed on them. They numbers in the corners and you could exchange them for food, and various other goods and services...
I haven't seen nearly as many of these "bills" I think they were called, since the 25th line started.
Those and TF Alternators and their Binaltech counterparts.
Star Wars 30th Was what I started collecting. Now it's Pretty Much Strictly 25th style Joes, with the occasional Vintages Figure along the Way.

Im pretty much the same,I collected all the autobots from the movie line and some of the classics-I had a few MOTU but gave up as they were so scarce.
I was bit by bit getting the rest of my vintage collection (got pretty much all i want now) and I got all i wanted from the Marvel legends,Dc Direct and so on (apart from Green Lantern Salaak and Sinestro in his Sinestro corps outfit).
When I saw the 25th line i was only going to get the Storm Shadows...then i thought "hey I cant have him without snake eyes"...then I said "I will just collect the Ninjas"....now Ive got pretty much all the core characters and a TON of customs I made!

Nothing.
I didn't collect Joes as a kid (I think my Joe collection consisted of the Polar Battle Bear, the FANG, and Rock 'N Roll and Cobra Commander). I was more of a Star Wars/MASK/Transformers kid.
But when I saw Stalker and Beachhead hanging on the pegs in Target last October, I knew I had to have them, and now I'm hooked. I try to rationalize it by saying that I'm getting this stuff for my son to play with (who's 17 months old) in a couple of years, and I don't want him to miss the core characters who have been released when the line gets going in the next two years :)

Random figures that I liked. Usually superheroe stuff.
Scrap Iron! J/K
Last thing I remotely collected was LOTR AOME figures. Even those I only bought some of the core characters and some of the weapons because I liked the movies so much.
Before that it was 1/72 scale military miniatures, focusing on Waterloo soldiers.
At the time the 25th line came out, I would have to say it was Tonka's Chuck-n-Friends for my son. He has since graduated to Hot Wheels and Matchbox and now I only buy GI Joe.
Even now I am feeling myself begin to lose interest as the future releases largely involve characters or variations of characters I have no interest in and the singles seem harder than ever to find.

I was working on cars. Old cars new cars. Going to car shows dragstrip. Hanging out with car nuts. Finding out how rare and adding more horse power to them. Getting into car mags. Detailing them. Went to school for cars.
I have most of the RAH line and stoped to work on cars. The 25th line hit the stores and bought them. Found this site and love it here. Cars are now on the back burner so i can complete a MOC collection. I have a second chance to do that.

As far as Toys I collect vintage GI.Joe's and Transformers. More recently Transformers Alternators. I quit with the alternators when no new Decepticons were comming out.

I was collecting the TF Classics and the usual rounds of comics (X-men, G.I.Joe, TF) and picking up vintage Joes and TF's when I could find them. I've gotten to the point with my ARAH that what's left is hard to find or really expensive.

I was really in to Joe as a kid... to me there was nothing as cool.
I had not bought a Gi Joe, since 1993...
Cars became my thing from 95-present.. Just affording the parts with a mortgage is not.....smart anymore.
I bought the Duke w/cd and the cobra commander w/ cd from a drug store in the Gi Joe vs Cobra error in the early 00's... Just very random, hey I'll put these by my computer.. messed around with the CD.. Overall, i didnt due to much to pull me back in.
A few years back, during Valor Vs Venom, I thought about buying the processional pack.. then I thought about maybe buying the viper 5 pack... never bit though.
Christmas 2006. My parents as a Joke, or so they thought... Bought me Sigma 6 Scuba Duke. My girlfriend (now fiance) kinda laughed, and thought that's a cute gag present.. It sat in the package for a week or so... then I got curious.. Opened him up and was in AWE. The articulation, paint, accessories.. It KICKED ASS! Next day I had to go find a Cobra to pose him next to... I bought the Joe version of Firefly.. THAT KICKED ASS TOO! ... Next thing you know, I have almost every 8" that was made MOC, and a few doubles..
Since I was lurking on the boards, I saw the 25th anniversary figs coming. I bought Flint and Cobra Commander first. I wanted to see how good they were... I almost didnt buy anymore. They were pail in quality compared to the 8" line.. but these were the familiar designs of my childhood, and army building took alot less room..
Now I have almost 300 25th figures.. and plan on stopping at the movie line. I have debated selling the sealed 8" line, but do not want to break them up.. and part of me wants to hang onto them.. they really were a great action figure.

star wars... still star wars (25th Joes are just a fun little filler between 'new' star wars stuff... not re-paint re-pkg new, but actually new figures... ) Marvel Legends pre-Hasbro killing the line... Classic Trek Diamond Select figures. DC direct super heroes (now only Green Lantern related figures... or LOSH if they would make any-same goes for Mattel's super heroes) Comic books:but cut down to about 15 books monthly (here's a plug for the Boys by Dynamite:read it) Harry Potter adult figures (not that kind of adult figures:just the grown-ups wizards, not the kids) Now my son took an interest in Warhammer 40k so there's boxes of that stuff around... And the occasional TF :)

Absolutely nothing. I collected a little bit of Joe stuff a couple of years ago but lost interest when they shoved out the whole spy troops and VvV lines. The only reason I collect anything now is because these toys are based on those I had when I was a kid. If not for that, my money would continue drawing interest in a bank.

I wasn't collecting anything, but I was getting a lot for my kids. Mostly JLU, The Batman, different types of Superman figures, and loads of Transformers. Since TF Animated, that's all they want to get. They hardly touch the other toys.

I was still collecting, though I was close to calling it quits til the DTC line started coming out, and the "hiatus" and the S6 stuff didn't bother me too much, was mainly buying troops builders off ebay and all that fun stuff til the new 25th line had came out.
Fun stuff.

I was collecting Macross toys. Specifically the toys by Yamato. I sold my collection to focus on Joes. I kept 2-3 of 'em, but the rest had to go. If you think repaints are bad in the Joe line, try collecting 14 repaints of the same mech that all cost $100+.

I was just thinking the same. I wasnt rich enough to get the Yamato ones and Toynami does the same too with their Veritech and Alphas. I was close to put my complete collection for sale when they announced they are releasing the Beta fighter. Now I want one of those...

I bought my last GI Joe in 92 or 93 and it was Ninja FOrce Scarlett. Then I bought a duke with Silver Mirage Motorcycle for the 15th anniversary. GI Joe remained in my heart but the toys were finished with me.
Over the years it was a mixture of mini collections. Transformers, Star Wars and then JLU took up the majority of my collecting. Over the years I saw the JvC, Spy Troops and the Valor v Venom, but while the characters were familiar there was something off about the figures.
Then I saw the first images of the two 5 packs and immediately I knew I had to get them. Then they announced a single Flint figure and I knew once I had wave 1 in my hands I had to get all the single cards. They reminded me so much of the originals with the box art, I was hooked.
So now it's GI JOE (until the movie figs hit) Optimus Prime and Starscream Transformers (Which is all I'll collect going foward TF wise) and Justice League Unlimited (which imo is arguably the best DC line ever)

I wasn't collecting anything at that time and when I saw this line lots of memories invaded my head and I start buying like a crazy man. I have about 80 figures/vehicles which is a lot considering how expensive is to buy things from Argentina. Customs taxes kills you!!
Imagine paying about 45/60 dollars for each figure and 150/180 for each vehicle... my wallet is crying!!

I was, & still am collecting Heroclix & Heroscape miniatures. I'm spending alot less on Heroclix...buying the complete set's off E-Bay. I usually get my Heroscape stuff on sale - it also helps that there has only been one set for the first half of the year. I was collecting Marvel Legends, but sold them all after seeing the quality go down. I have always been a Joe fan, but would only buy occasionally if I saw something I liked. The quality was never what I thought it could be...until the 25th line. I've been Hasbro's whoar ever since.

Other than a few "fun" figures to keep on my desk at work, I hadn't bought a toy since I was a young teen.
Then, my girlfriend bought me 20th Anniversary Optimus Prime back in 2004 or so.
Then I got some of the Alternators at K-Mart on clearance. She started it all, and hates it now.
The moment I saw the 25th figures from SDCC (or wherever the "scoop" photography was from) I immediately knew I had to get them when they were released.
It's one of those series that I am glad they keep making new figures, but I also sorta want to end at the same time, because it's lasted WAY longer than I thought it would, and turned WAY too awesome for me to validate buying 4" toys at $8/figure to just store in a box and not open.
Since buying the 25th Joes, I've also started BACK-buying (loose, though... WAY too cool to leave in the box.) Marvel Legends. Mostly the main heroes, and the X-Men and their various villains.
I just hope that I'm never mistakenly suspected of kidnapping a kid, because if anyone were to dig in my closets... They'd find BOXES of toys.
I keep telling myself, I'm a designer. It's okay to have nerdy things. But it's excessive. *sigh*
