Hello All!
Thought I would drop a few cents here. I've seen a number of threads about collecting and why you do it.
Money?
Love?
Hobby?
Filling space?

I've delt with the gammut of the collector cadre from running my hobby shop over the years.
Comics,HotWheels,Star Wars,Cards,GIJoe,Statues,NASCAR and on and on and on.
I've seen it all people.

Fist fight in my store over a single Hotwheels car between two fourty year old men. $2.00 car at that.

Collectors of comics that buy every single varient of a books cover, seal them away in bag and board and never read them nor care to.

Reach over children to grab a toy from them off my rack, smacked his hands for that and asked him to leave.

Hoarders of single things, Hotwheels or figures, that certain one in the collection. Buy fifty to a hundred of them to squirrel it away in boxes at home in the hopes of it putting their children through collage in a few years.

$600.00 for a single HotWheels car and can't pay their phone bill.

Now what I have listed is the rotten end of what we on this board love. We all deal with them from either side of the register. Those pain in the rears that make us all look bad.

From what I have seen on this board since I've joined it. The people I have sold to and bought from. I have to say that the future of collecting is in good hands. You do it for the right reasons.
Becasue you love it.
How can I tell?

You open it,the TRUE hallmark of a real collector.

Conversions and customs, being willing to cut up that BAT to make it the varient Crimson Guard BAT that you dreamt Hasbro would make.

You play with them and let your kids enjoy these loves of your own childhoods as well.

You read the file cards and think that Duke's real name reminds you of your high school PE teacher.

You read through the toy guides and see what the WHALE is worth MIB and you remember as a kid opening that box and building that WHALE. Filling it with your favorite Joes missing half their gear and running straight for the creek to battle Cobra who kidnapped your sisters My Little Pony. Smiling the whole time.

You enjoy it and as someone who makes their living and pays their bills becasue of it. Makes me more than happy to stock this for you to enjoy it.

Love collecting for what you get out of it.
Sure the money is nice but being happy is what makes it worth it.
Enjoy!
and YO JOE!

For me, its mainly to fill the void from that childhood. Plus its the nostalgic affect. Aside from all that, I freaking love GI Joes!

Wow! A grown adult pushing a child out of the way for a toy? That's horrible. I love these toys and the nostalgic feelings they invoke, but I can't even fathom ever doing something like that.
