Ankle-Wrists

I was sitting here admiring the 25th Viper (which I think has had unfair press - beautiful figure with a few minor flaws) wondering how I would have sculpted him differently and thought of Ankle-Wrists.

Cost aside, why haven't we seen wrists that are designed like the ankles to allow for vertical hand motion? This would resolve a lot of problems that various figures have had dealing with hand sculpt positions and holding weaponry while providing a boost to articulation and pose options. Looking at the ankles it seems easy and feasible.

Just a thought.

On the 2008 Star Wars Commander Gree they Incorporated the ankle-Wrists. IDK why its not on more figures tho?

We can't even get swivel wrists on all the figs (Lady Jaye). If we start asking for Microman levels of articulation, we better be willing to pay for it. Not to mention articulation that small can make the figure more breakable.

Would you consider, the star wars line to be simply better funded? I would, There is still character with better and worse articulation. Commander Gree is the only one I have noticed with this upgrade, I have him opened and pose him in different positions often. No sings of anything that could break easily IMO.

Yeah, fair enough. Though I'd argue we're already overpaying for the figures by a large margin and an ankle joint at the wrist wouldn't be cost prohibitive.

AFAIK Micromen don't have the vertical wrist motion either (i.e. karate chop), but I'm not a collector so I'm not certain. And I greatly prefer Hasbro sculpts to the aesthetic decline that results from Microman articulation. And that may be one of considerations they went through.

In addition to Gree, the new Commander Rex and Clone Troopers from the Clone Wars lines have ball-joint wrists. Honestly, I've tested the strength on them and they're quite good. THe hands become slightly bulkier to accommodate the joint and post, but all in all, I believe that Joe deserves this upgrade. Its about the only point of articulation that the figures lack (short of nit-picky things like mouths, eyelids, toes, etc.).

Looked at a few pics, it seems they have the side to side Microman action. What I'd like to see is up and down motion, so you can achieve the gun holding poses of bent wrists like the 25th Viper is molded into, but still return to a neutral position. Something to achieve a pose like this.
