I was just thinking how neat it would be if we had a hisstank.com exclusive HISS tank :)
Maybe for another custom contest or something we can have people submit their custom hisstanks and judge which ones could represent the site. What do you guys think?

An arrangement with CobraStickers to make a sheet of exclusive decals for converting an existing HISS would be cool.
We could have a competion for designing a logo to go on the cockpit.

The Cobrastickers.com thing would be totally awesome! Someone could draw a pin-up girl or something to go on the side of the tank. A sticker in two sections. The bottom half goes on the larger rear section of the cockpit, the other goes on the rear portion of glass.
You could get all the original stickers, the large pin-up on one side, and the hisstank.com logo on the other side.

Maybe we could get something together like the Cobra Island Anniversary Exclusive boat. That was so sweet. Unfortunately I missed out on that one, but if we had one here I'd be all over it. At least 2 for me.

Cool idea. Could probably get an artist like this (http://mashi.deviantart.com/) to do a commissioned piece.
She did a Scarlet here (http://mashi.deviantart.com/art/Scarlett-for-SHOdaddy-76882412) in a style that would sit well on a HISS imo. Have her make a Baroness or something similar and I'd be down.

be very careful in the use of silver... it's difficult to use well in my opinion. especially a split red/silver. my first reaction is yikes... could look ok or more like a clown car. especially with several colors being used.
i think actually seeing it done will make a big diference though.

A HISSTANK exclusive Cobrastickers decal sheet would be the BEST way to go, and a contest to decide some of the decos is a great idea. Deciding on colors and what not should be left up to the user, as should providing the actual "Tank", be it vintage fodder or store bought new pieces.
I see it this way-A contest to flesh out some of the decal ideas, resulting in an exclusive decal sheet to be sold for use with vintage or modern Hiss tanks, vintage style mold specifically (IE Not DTC or HISS 2 and 4). THEN, a second contest for the BEST USE of the custom decal sheet!!!! Tank colors, use of camoflauge, weapons add-ons, it could be a customizing wet dream!!!
Take (tank) it away, Fran!!!!!

i'd rather see a hisstank exclusive bolo.... with kota sidekick...
yeah, we could also have white and black kota variants for the bolo figure... oh, and we could have yellow "error" bolo as well... and for the helluvit, we could have pimp daddy bolo at next years comic con. With a "country club" bolo suit for kicks.
... I just angered bolo didnt I? Ah shit, somebody is knocking at my door...*

I think this is a fantastic idea but I think an exclusive Driver and Exclusive sticker sheet would be the most affordable and cost effective way to go. I would be willing to volunteer my time to paint Exclusive Hisstank.com HISS Drivers.
My initial thoughts on this would be an all black Driver leaving the blue chestplate as is and the silver visor. This would be the easiest way to mass produce the figure....Maybe have a few "chase" variants that are re-painted RIP-ITs leaving the red chest plate in tact.
I think if we get enough support and volunteers, we could do a run of 50-100 pretty quickly. It would be awesome if some graphic arts wizards could do a simple packaging design even if is just a new die cut file card.
Thoughts?

I love the idea of the exclusive figure. I'd love to see it carded. If anyone is good with that maybe we make up 200 or so limited runs. I remember JoeCanuck.com making an exclusive figure. When I checked it out I was disappointed that it was a repaint. Looked like it was done at home. Maybe dressing it up nice on a card would be nice.
I'm liking the decals rather than buying a whole hiss tank. If we use this suggestion, where would all the figures come from? Would everyone need to mail in their own figure to be customized and re-carded?

i LOVE the idea of a custom repainted figure with a sticker sheet! including an uncut card woudl be an absolute bonus and carding them woudl be awsome but much more work i'm sure.
whenever possible k.i.s.s. is the best principal to go by.
edit- the red and black could be decent, the more i look at your prototype. very easy to do with existing tanks too.
instead of doing it by peice, what if you did it by body mass? ie; the front pod and rear bulk in one color and the rest which includes the bottom of the rear mass, the underneath of the front crew cab and the turret box on top along with the fins adn slit between masses in another color. thinking red/black...

I've thought (and continue to think) about the sectional possibility. The trick is balancing detail with time. KISS, after all. I may try other things, but I'm going to finish this one through with what I have in mind since I've started it.
I've decided not to handle the figures for the moment & focus on the vehicle for now, so if someone else wants to explore that part before me knock yourself out. Anyone taking on the pinup yet?

Im overwhelmed by peoples responses to this. It would be good if we organize this. The first step I think is for people to post their proto-types/customs of the hissdriver, hisstank, and artwork for the decals. And we as the community decide which ones to use (hence the contest type element). We dont want to overflow the toy with decals though so it would be a good idea to get a consensus on how many and where.
I was thinking 1 "HISSTANK.COM" decal (in the same font as the numbers) in the place of one of the 001(or whatever number is on yours), or 2 of them besides the number, or just 1 on the nose of the tank just below the canopy.
2 different user created pictures/pinups for each of the sides.
A HISSTANK.com bumper sticker with a slogan on it.
And perhaps depending on the color scheme we go, a bunch of cobra sigils to replace the old ones.
Once we figure this out we can get people started on the artwork. It seems a lot would be riding if cobrastickers.com would be onboard with this.

The sticker sheet idea seems like the most practical route to go. Then if there was any sort of consensus on a color scheme for tank & driver we could customize them ourselves at home. Love the idea though, keep it rollin'! Do we need to get a mod on board here to get this project green lit, they after all own the site.

Ok, this is my idea folks.
This needs to be a sticker set, plain and simple. The sticker set is exclusive to HISStank board members, etc etc. This eliminates the need for vehicle producing BS and custom painting, etc. The idea could be used on T-shirts, cups and whatever. It could even be used for the sites header.
Now, in NO WAY do I want my artwork anywhere, but this is the general idea I'm trying to illustrate. I'm a terrible artist.
We have to get a sense of nostalgia going and i think this idea encapsulates the general idea of what we are all looking for.
On the decal set you get every original 788 hisstank decal, but in addition you get the hisstank.com pin-up girl sticker.
The sticker would have to come in three parts and the seams of the tank and part of the windshield would be the "borders" of each piece. The stickers pin-up also integrates the tanks 788 number into itself, so it looks like part of the tank. I think the 788 is the most iconic number, being the original.
I think my illustrations below give you an idea. This is my idea of the pin-up. A female in a halfway unzipped cobra mechanics uniform, kneeling by the numbers with the cobra emblem in the background.
The second image illustrates how the decal would go togethor along the seems of the tank and windshield.
The decal could be shrunken and moved slightly to avoid going onto the windshielf if neccessary. We would have to test it.
So, if this is what people want to do, we need to find an artist to make a very unique and original artwork. This piece could be used as the exclusive logo for the hisstank community from now on instead of the generic Joe graphics.
Sorry so fast, it's late.

I think we need something that will allow us to customize both our own Hiss Tanks AND Hiss Tank drivers. Can we add a special decal that we can put on the chest of a Hiss Tank Driver that we can customize to match our HISS Tanks?
paulpratt
08-14-2008, 01:59 AM
As an additional note, i would say keep down on the clutter for other stickers on the back, both sides, etc. I think it would be more elegant if it looked like someone actually made their HISS look like this. I think the pin-up girl, or whatever gets used should be iconic enough that we don't need to put the hisstank.com domain name on there.
This thing, whatever it is, needs to be unique. Something that people will look at it and say, "that's a hisstank.com sticker!" Like i mentioned, the sticker could become the logo for everything hisstank.
Another note, if the pin-up girl is to shocking, which i imagine it would be more comic book-ish anyway, but we could always do a cool unit patch or something in a comic style to plaster on the side of the vehicle.
But, I'm firm that it has to be a sticker set. This is simply too cool, too unique, and too cheap to pass up.

I think we can all say a "IT HAS TO..." comment. For me it has to be a carded figure but that would be a lot to offer. Is there anyone out there who is good at producing card backs? I've seen people sell card backs with a platic figure bubble on ebay for people to customize their own and glue the bubble on.
Wouldn't that be cool? This way we can customize a tank and card a figure too. It's not as simple as just a sticker sheet. I realize that. But if someone wanted to make $$$ I'd pay for one.
paulpratt
08-14-2008, 02:17 AM
I think the card back thing is a neat idea, verily. So is the custom tank. I would be honored to have of that stuff on my shelf.
But i think it would be more advantageous to create something that identifies the community more so than anything else. The stickers keep costs down and allows people without deep pocket books that may not be able to buy custom vehicles and figures, not to mention ship those items to boot.
By creating a mascot, as someone pointed out, we are helping every member, past, present, and future that will ever come to this board and all it takes is a printer. No skills for anyone after the fact, no special craftsmen to put in a lot of time and labor to do this for each individual order. It takes one artist eight to sixteen hours to make a good picture. We can do the rest.
We do a profit split with Cobra stickers, they get advertising for the set and some business and hisstank gets some of the proceeds to do cool things as a community, like make t-shirts and hats, etc with the new art and drive even more revenue for the site. This revenue could be used to do other things like get togethors, get prizes for contests, site operations, and maybe give out a yearly comic con ticket, who knows. The possibilites are as limited as the imagination. All these things help drive traffic to the site as the number one destination for Joe discussion.
I say its the best because it makes sense, provides the maximum return with the least amount of effort and helps not just us, but two major websites with advertising and revenue oppurtunities. That is just my opinion however and everyone is at liberty to disagree, but we all need passion in our ideas if we want them to get looked at, or considered. I genuinely feel this is best for the HISStank and Joe communities.

A sticker would be more practical and a lot easier than an entire tank. :D
I'm with Paul on this, a sticker sheet is by far the most reasonable route to go.
Though it requires the use of a unique and recognizable Hisstank badge/logo, of which there is no current one.
Pinup girl in a faded paint type app, with a couple Hisstank badge logos would be a lot of fun.
And of course I'd like a fully reworked Hiss box and custom tank, but I also don't want to pay $100 for it.

the tank number should be 215... it's already in use in the site graphics.
i agree, less is more with stickers. adding maybe a site title bumper sticker and a classic style pinup art along with a chest logo to the standard sticker sheet would be enough for me.
then you could sell the pinup art and bumper sticker set seperately for use on anything. the 215 hiss set would be a hisstank exclusive though.
i urge to keep the pinup art classic style vs. nc-17 anime. i'd like to have something my kids can play with and eventually take pride in for themselves as hisstank members.
is the site/cobrastickers even interested in this? has anyone asked? kind of pointless without thier involvment, other than for good conversation.

The consensus is still sticker set which I agree with also. I dont think one sticker alone with a logo will do though, besides with a sticker sheet you have the option of putting it on however you like. I still think you need a small hisstank.com sticker either on the nose or as a rear bumpersticker, and then 2 different logo/pinup/artwork on the 2 sides. THat way if we do have a little pg-18 artwork and people dont want their kids exposed to that they can just put on the other artwork and leave the pinup off the one side. It gives people more options that way. A happy medium between few stickers and too many I think would be the best, as it gives the customizing part (where to place the stickers) more flexibility.

There are a number of professional comic book artists who take commissions - we could probably see if one of them might be interested in taking on a design for a sticker, if we got hisstank.com permission...

hmmm I think id be against hiring a professional artist. I think it would relfect the community better if we did a contest or something with members. But its up to the community. I dont know if we have to go as far as creating a logo or mascot for the site, just as long as it has "hisstank.com" somewhere and art from our own community, its all we really need.

Could we PLEASE include a small logo sticker to place on the chest of a HISS TANK DRIVER so we can customize figures to match the Tank? I love the sticker idea. I would not want to customize a HISS Tank without a HT Driver!!! I would want to paint him to match the Hiss Tank and I'd paint over the cobra logo on his chest and place a Hiss Tank logo on his chest plate. We need a sticker to do this.

If you build it make it unique!
Color or weapons or weathering, something that makes it stand out from everything else HISS!
Some special edition driver and when you put it out, make it the new LOGO for the site!
A HISS tank from HISS tank!

Here is my initial prototype for a Hisstank.com Hiss Tank Driver Exclusive. This was simple (about 30 min) and I think produces a unique new look. My thought was to also repaint the Rip It figure black with the Red chest plate as a variant. We could also paint the chest plate blank to allow a new logo sticker to be placed on it. A new filecard and a sticker sheet to customize your own tank, and we are in business. Feedback? Thoughts?

How durable will the paint be?

Very durable everywhere except joints. In the case of joes, most paint wear will be at the elbows and shoulders. I use a process that eliminates a lot of noticeable chipping in these locations but if you move these joints over and over, chipping will occur...that being said, I do many customs and the main body parts that are painted will look factory and stand up to posing.

Take (tank) it away, Fran!!!!!

i would buy one of those in an instant! repaint the chest plate to be blank. this allows the buyer to choose the chest logo color (should be offered on the tank sheet). it really does look very good!

if you want to take it to the extreme, instead of a full card, a wave 1 box can be copied/modified so a file card is all that has to be produced and modify the vintage art on the end panels and rear pictoral display. the clear sticker can easily be replicated with clear avery shipping labels.
here is a summary of ideas that seem to have the most attention. please feel free to edit as needed.
1. sticker sheet (by far the easiest/most affordable)
2. uncut card (provide only an image file for reprint or an actual card?)
3. file card (provide only an image file for reprint or an actual card?)
4. completed custom figure (based on the example already done)
5. completed custom figure carded
6. completed custom hiss tank (a standard would have to be selected)
7. redeco hiss tank box (i just added this)
has anyone contacted one of the experienced custom card makers about a card/file card? we've all seen thier work adn it's amazing.
these could be mixed/matched as desired, sort of like a build-a-hisstank exlcusive set. you make it your way from a kit of parts so to speak.
how much support does this have from the site owner? have they chimed in? how about cobra stickers involvement? any sticky issues with making a site exclusive and copryrights? hate to see this get nixed due to not looking ahead at potential stumbling blocks.

Ok, first, that is REALLY cool. But, I think the KISS idea will hold up the best. I wish we could actually get Hasbro to do an exclusive for us. My thoughts were a Cobra Blue (better than previous Target release, that was too pastel for me) top section and black treads and turret. That way the colors are determined with the mold. Then add the cool stickers. A repaint of a 25th HISS Driver would be nice too. I'd like to see him still molded in red, but with the special logo on the chest and a couple of changes to accent colors.

intersting but that can already be done with the available number set. being a hisstank exclusive, i would think the site specific graphic which has 215 would be more important, to me anyway. you see 215 and you know it's related to hisstank and you know why.

The sticker sheet is BY FAR the best way to do this...it would be much easier to mass produce and would probably sell cheaper...AND there would probably be no copyright issues or what not...
has anyone mentioned using the numbers "215" (as opposed to 788)on the HISS as per the site's new logo?
i think this along with a Pin-Up (this is the best idea yet...and could also be used on Rattlers IMO...and i LOVE it), and tiny bumper sticker on the back either reading Hisstank.com or some stupid saying would be AWESOME...and i'd buy a few at least.
somebody PLEASE make this happen!!

your absolutely right.... during the disucssion on the new logo (lengthy thread by now), the question was asked and, please correct me if i'm wrong, it's the are code for the owners/creators of the site. i should not assume everyone reads recent posts and the recent question/post on hisstank history does not contain this info ( i checked). now that i think of it, i'm not aware of any one place one could refer people to for this kind of info... something admin/mods should address. hard to know the site history when it's not documented or easy to find.

I like this idea more than the pinup idea. In my head, I do not see a force like Cobra having pinups on their tanks. The whole concept of nose art or pinups was for some our troops to express individuality (and identify one another) and a "nameless, faceless" organization such as Cobra just isn't going to allow it. Uniformity is their strength and psychological weapon...I mean if it was all real. :)

Don't get me wrong, I love the Pinup idea. I just don't feel that it is in the spirit of an organization like Cobra.
I think that is one interpretation, obviously. Cobra is an organization that needs to have people believe in what they are fighting for. No one can put a gun to the head of that many people, which is probably at least a divisions worth of people and make them believe. They need to have a pride and a drive in the cobra objective to participate in what the US Government would label as "terrorism." Cobra is trying to free itself of government oppression and would allow "certain" liberties to be taken to drive more pride in the ideals of the organization.
The US used to allow soldiers to personalize all of their equipment, and it happens to a lesser extent now in the field. Some commanders allow it, others don't, but all of it is about pride. Pride in a weapon, a vehicle, your own life, or an ideal. Some people see Cobra as this huge organization dedicated to communism and evil. I sincerely don't believe that. I guess it's completely open to interpretation to those that immerse themselves in the universe and your style of "play."
At the end of the day none of it matters.
I think the argument for the pin-up, which is one I'm, obviously, on board with is that it allowed for the most unique and inexpensive way to support the site. If you don't use the sticker on your hiss tank, put it on your toaster, your toilet, or your grandmothers grave stone, who cares. It's just the easiest route.
But, at the end, none of this excessive back and forth matters until the owner of the site comes in here and lays down the law.
