View Full Version : Wave 1??

So what makes wave 1 so popular and pricey?

I mean Flint is the most expensive. But not too far behind is Snake Eyes with Timber (even the non variant is popular) Storm Shadow and Cobra Officer do well on ebay also. Cobra Commander isn't as popular but hey it's only 1 figure out of 5.

So what gives? Any ideas? I can't think of any other wave as a combined group so far that has been this hot. Was it the least distributed? What's your opinions?

They were difficult to find to began with. They also weren't on the shelves very long. CC isn't popular because he was carried over into other waves

The hooded CC, right?

Don't know. Obviously Flint and Snake Eyes have something to do with the price. The only other thing that I think might be contributing to the higher prices is that its the oldest wave and people who started collecting this line after the first couple of waves are competing to fill holes in their collection? I dunno, just a guess

Its the people who wants it that dictates the value. Not the the seller.

up until this week, my local target had 4 wave 1 c.c.'s that hung there from the very begining. a fellow tanker got tired of looking at them and just bought them this week.

It was the first wave that started this craze. Flint was a tough find.Personally I only saw one and I bought it. In some areas figs warmed the shelves. I could have bought several snake eyes, storm shadows and the trooper but I was limiting myself at the time. Mister e also hit a good point. Many missed that wave and they are playing the catch up game.

Remember this, Case size is only 8 figures as opposed to 1982-1994 hug case packs. Since stores ordered by case and pack was low, there are fewer.

I have to agree with this - MOST of the time new lines like this people miss wave 1 - and start late when it gets popular or really cool figures. by that time they have so much invested - they want to be complete and go back.. which then drives the first waves up.. happened with Marvel Legends when they first came out - and I sold that wave 1 set for $98 - and 3 days later - find out that the TOAD from that series was worth more then all of it :c)

First wave and by the time a lot of people caught on about the 24th anniversary, the wave was on wave 2 or 3.

Heck, I bypassed wave 1 because I figured I could get them easily because Snake Eyes and Stalker were clogging the pegs.

But notice SE and Flint really jack up in price and when I went back to the stores...those figures clogging the pegs were all gone. So, I snoozed and lost. But ended getting them on eBay...around New Year's for about $12-16 each.

Same thing with Star Wars, Marvel Legends, Transformers and everything. I usually don't pick things up until something awesome comes in a later wave and then I try to get the earlier waves months later.

Makes sense, didn't Flint, Stormshadow and Snake Eyes get moved into Wave 3, just as CC did for Wave 5?

That and if they did, didn't see them on the pegs. Many saw SS, CC and SE and passed on those. Everyone complained how they kept warming the pegs but now everyone is complaining that they're not out on pegs. Funny how things cycle.

SE's and SS were carried over into just as many waves, and in fact were easier to find initially. they were the first peg warmers of the line, it seems most people forget that.

Well Flint SS v2 and SE are supposed to be coming out in a revision wave soon.
Also according to EE it looks like a number of the figs from the 25th 5 packs/Wave 4 will be released as a Wave 11 revision.
I wonder if they'll have fixed articulation and backpack holes.

Yup: 25th Anniversary - Wave 5 - Revision 5 - Case of 8 - GI Joe 25th Anniversary - 1982-2007 Single Figures at BigBadToyStore (http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/product.aspx?product=HAS15365&mode=retail)

I, too, hope that revision case has fixed articulation and backpack holes. And I hope Flint comes with new arms in this particular revision.

I wish I would've kept all my wave 1 carded but I didn't. I am now more careful on opening my joes.

I started collecting again with the 25th Ann. waves, I started with wave 1, but I never found a Flint in my area... so out of all the waves the only one I'm missing now is Flint from wave 1, but I just can't bring myself to pay the prices some people are asking.... I mean the value of these figures hasn't really even gone up yet, and we still have yet to see if they will in fact pay off in the later years to come. My biggest problem is keeping up with each wave itself... when they come out, which figures are coming out for that wave etc.

Now with the vehicles hitting the shelves its become even tougher, considering I don't make millions of dollars to spend on my hobbies... collecting Joes is just one of them. So it usually comes down to do I need this one or, do I need that one more? lol

I did buy doubles of all the wave 1 figures I could find... but not to sell and make a profit on... I wanted a set to open and display... and a set to hang onto for my daughter.

I'm guessing he'll be the Tiger Force Flint with original colors.

Surprising to see Snow Serpent in that revision case. I would have expected something like 5 pack Baroness. Would have preferred it too.
