first off i put this in the general discusion because i am not trying to sell anything just thaught i would share some feelings i had about my dilema.
i am deciding wether or not to sell my entire 25th line because i collect so much more RAH then i do 25th or anyway i enjoy rah more. i dont want to regret it down the road but i just want more rah stuff right now and its getting to hard to afford both rah and 25th. so im kinda stuck right now on what to do. i keep all my 25th figs moc and on my wall. and i collect rah loose and i have about a dozen moc figs. i know the 25th line is coming to a break soon so it will give me time to save some money but i could really use the extra cash.
what would you do?

Well right now i am focusing only on the 25th line. When or if the line ends, i will continue to add to my vintage collection. I found out it is to expensive to collect both at once so i focus on the current, easy to find joes and then i will try to find the vintage figures i want...

i would continue with 25th line until takes a break as well then resume the vintage collecting

I would sell it, wait until the line cools off and the figures go down in price, and then buy the ones you want back for less than what you sold them for. I predict that these figures won't be worth a damn in a couple years. Much as I love these figures, they're just the flavor of the week right now for a lot of collectors that get whatever is "hot" at a given time.

It all depends, in the end, what you really want to do. It's not easy to decide and no matter what you decide there will probably always be times when you doubt your choice. Both lines are great for varying reasons but if you get more enjoyment out of the vintage stuff then you should concentrate on that.
There's no easy decision maker for this. I've been down this path and will probably face it again soon as I need to decide on what I want to collect more. In your case, you need to look at both collections and go with your heart. If you can do without your 25th stuff and be happy with collecting just the vintage then go that way. You could just keep a couple special pieces from the newer stuff as well and know that if you decide to sell it it will probably go to someone who loves Joes as much as you.

I don't understand the concept of collecting something just to turn around and sell it all.

well its not about selling it all, its just i only make so much money and i go to a university and i pay for school all by myself with the help of some finacial aid but on top of bills and collecting both lines i am going to be a very broke guy.
if i could i would keep both, but right now its just not practical. i mean i could just stop collecting for awhile and save some money but knowing myself it wont happen, ill just keep spending money because i love gijoes too much.

Don't sell. The fact that your "torn" over what to do is answer enough right there. Just put 'em away and stop getting more (you can always play the catch up game later) I just garage-sold (?) the first 4 or 5 series of Simpsons figures + some houses for $20 (kept the mob guys though... and Willie/Moe) because I know I'm never going to look back and think 'dang... that was stupid' Didn't even have to think about it... When you get to that point, let 'em go... but it doesn't sound like you're there...

Or you could work out your priorities and finances to better determine what you can spend for the month.
It also help to monitor your assets and liabilities. Cut down on the things you don't want.

I think you're wrong, in a couple years there will be no figures in stores, certain figures will be tough to get... if not most of the line. but that's just what i think.

I agree completely. I just unloaded a ton of 12" Star Wars because they'd been sitting in a box for the last 5 years. Something I wouldn't have done if they were out on display. I took 'em out and said... "meh" and sold 'em.
Box 'em up... take a look at them in a few months. If you say "meh", sell 'em. If you say: "F--k these are cool!" proudly display them!

what would you do?
I had a whole thing typed up for you about my ARAH and 25th collections, but I said screw it.
I'm basically in the same boat right now and I am considering selling it all, so I know what you're going through.
Sorry I don't have an answer for you, just letting you know you're not the only one.

Honestly, you have to do what you think is the best thing to do for you right now. No matter what you do, you will always second guess if it was the right thing at the time. Neither option is going to be easy, but you know better than any of us what your situation is and whether you should sell them or not. I wish you nothing but luck on the decision bro...

No problem. I wish i had an easy answer. This line is getting expensive for me too but my wife tells me that we have bought this many, she would be pissed if i stopped now. She said it would be a waste of time to have come this far and give up. Still, somedays i feel like taking a break from it all and just relax a while...

yeah i feel the same way in the sense i have spent so much time, effort, and money into finding all these joes and then just to sell them would make me feel like i wasted so much time on top of i really do enjoy these figures. it took me awhile to really appreciate the 25th line because i favor rah so much but they have really grown on me and it would suck if i had to sell them. its not that im desperate for cash i just wanted to try and just devote all my money into one line instead of two but i dont think its going to happen, i just cant part with my 25th figs.

Honestly it would be hard to part with mine too, but my family would come first. So if i really really had to. I would sell them in a heartbeat to provide for my family.
I am sorry, i know i am not being any help here. One moment i am saying how much time and energy i spent in getting these and the next i am saying that i would sell them in a heartbeat...

i understand completly, family comes first, if i had to sell these it would break my heart as well, but i know i could get them again , but i would have to pay alot more the second time around.
for me gijoes are such a great hobby, ive met some really cool people and ill alweys be a fan so its really hard when you have to make desicions that compramise your joe collecting, but bills and family are my first priority so i feel yah.

That's a great woman you have there man, and I have to agree with her. I've put so much time and money into this thing, it seems like a real waste to stop/give up now.
Coola, if I have any advice for you it's to make sure that you're not going to regret whatever decision you make.
Here's my little example for you. Back in the late 90's I needed money to pay some bills. To keep a long story short I sold my collection of the original Image Comics. Now that doesn't mean much now, but back then Image was hot and I got more for them then, than I would now.
The problem for me has always been that I'm less concerned with what something is "worth" than actually having it in my collection. I miss those books and I wish I never sold them. Sure they can be replaced for a hell of a lot cheaper than what I sold them for...but... that's not the point. Those particular issues that I hunted down back in the day are gone forever, and I can never get them back.
Make sure you've thought about the long run before you make any major decision regarding your collection.

i was thinking of selling some figs...but i got to thinking that there are a good amount i paid 4.88 for adn it would be really tough these days to replace those figures if i wanted later for that price.
now seems to be a good time to find ARAH stuff because people seem to be putting more online and the 25th line sems to be bringing the price down for buying ARAH

That makes 2 of us.
Why spend so much money and energy on something just to get rid of it? Cuz you got bored? Thats lame. dont bother collecting at all then and save urself the money and hassle.
I have a friend who likes to buy everything. And then hes always trying to sell it.
Now if its a money issue, than maybe toy collecting should be going on in the first place.
But ultimately, do what makes you happy.

I too was debating this a while ago. i decided for now to keep all my stuff. Whether I am going to keep all my MOC or all my loose is yet to be decided but I think I will end up keeping it all. I am trying to get a new job that pays better so i can afford to get whatever I want down the road (fingers crossed). anyways if I were you I would keep them unless you really need the cash man. I can tell you from experience that I have sold off tons and tons and tons of toys. I'm talking back in the day I had enough to start my own business, Literally! I regret selling all of it now. I had probably 30 long boxes full of comics. Many rare tough to find books like Avengers 4, X-Men 3-48, MOC Major Bludd v1 easily would have gotten an AFA 90 + another 15 to 20 MOC & MIB/MISB joe items, boxed and sealed g1 transformers, eternia playset, castle greyskull x3, etc. etc. You get the point. I sold it all off and now I have nothing to show for it. Keep it man. Don't do what I did. My mom still tells me that she is sorry I had to sell all my toys especially my gi joe's but I simply didn't have the room for it and my parents are not well off. That is just my 2 cents and I really truly hope it helps you man. Think it through!!!

I'd go with keep both lines (since you like em both so much) and don't get any more if you're feeling the financial strain. As for selling, sell those that you don't want to keep. For my part, I only get the figures that I want, not to have a "complete" collection (i.e. all the figures available and not-so-available), but to have enough to make a decently balanced battle between the two sides.
For example, I was one of those fortunate to be on-line when BBTS still had cases of wave 11 for preorder, as well as the individual figures of wave 11 (except of the Eels, which sold out in the first hour and a half of posting). At first, I preordered a case. Then I thought to myself, "What am I gonna do with a Cobra-disguised Flint, MASK and another bazooka trooper?" (I have a case of wave 10 preordered already. I mean, really, a patrol squad usually only has one rocket grenadier, two max. Unless they're a heavy weapons squad.) So, I ordered the individual figures that I wanted and then canceled my preorder for the case.
For me, these figs are not just a collection, they're avenues by which I express and make concrete my imagination. (Which is a fancy way of saying "I play with my toys." That is what they're made for, right? :D)

Just think about, when you're back on your feet finances wise, will you miss those 25th Joes? I would, and would regret selling.

I'm in the same boat, but I decided to stick with it until the movie hits, then I'll take a break. I would hate to come back later to find some pieces really expensive/hard to find.

Well, this comes after the fact, but I'd forgotten about my original post and still feel some obligation to reply... I think.
If you need the extra money, you what you have to to survive.
But you've already invested your time, effort and money into the line. Seems like a waste to just turn around and sell it off. Of course if its your means to avoid temptation, I guess, again do what you have to.
I'm just a packrat, and once I've bought something, I tend to keep it well past the point of recognition.

sell the lesser of the two. I hear you though, its coming down to money and space for me so I just decided to sell Star Wars and Transformers to fuel the GI Joe and Clone Wars war machine.
