View Full Version : 25th line ending?
Gatchaman

Is the 25th line actually going to end or is Hasbro just putting it on hold while they do the movie figures? I just can't see Hasbro taking something that is as hot as the 25th line and just ending it. There is an almost endless amount of stuff they could do with it, why end it?
Does anyone know the truth in this matter? Is it really going to end? Or just be placed on hold for a while?
Thanks

it's been said numerous times that it will be put on hiatus for the duration of the movie line and will return in 2010. that's smart on several fronts. Hasbro doesn't run two Joe lines that essentially compete with each other, and it extends the life of the 25th line into an extra year.

Rich yes, unhappy ....YES.
Well thanks for the replies. I am very glad to hear it will be coming back. I thought it would be dumb on Hasbro's part to stop a line during its popularity height.

I will mourn its passing when Hasbro ends it next year, but at the same time, my wallet will be happy. After all, it is getting hard to afford GI Joe, Transformers, JLU, DC UNiverse, and Spectacular Spider-Man, while buying video games, Blu-Ray movies, anime, Yu-Gi-Oh! cards, and paying for rent, school loan, and bills.
However, they must do the following 8 figures before they end it:
Dr Mindbender
Zarana
Zandar
Cover Girl
Sgt Slaughter
Tunnel Rat
Jinx
Raptor

There's still a lot of vehicles and characters to be made, so I don't think its gonna end anytime soon.

I have almost zero interest in the "movie line" (judging from the character pictures on the web). Hasbro will save a lot of money on paint by just molding everything in black plastic, but they will also loose a lot of money when they realize that nobody wants an entire Joe team whose only differance is the heads.
I AM interested in seeing the movie... so far the changes sound disastrous (M.W. as Rip Cord is a major character? Scalett likes him instead of Snake Eyes?? Good lord...), but i should be an entertaining popcorn flick. And Snake Eyes and Baroness look pretty well done...

Hand it over now because I'm here to tell you Absolutely Not!
As some of you know I was very prominent in the TF community up until the TF movie line came out. From Car Robots (RID)-Cybertron I was a qusi-completest. The Movie Line came out and I was done. I own 1 Prime for my Prime shelf, and the two Bumblebees for that shelf and THAT IS IT! They don't look like TF's to me and so I did not collect them. Animated is the same for me. (Except again for a Prime and a Bumblebee). Classics came back and I am buying SOME of those.
This movie will be the same thing for me. The figures based on the actors will not look like Joes to me so I will not buy them. If they do some classic vehicle molds in the Movie line I will buy them, but I can tell you right now if it has no connection with RAH I have zero interest.

I was at the Hasbro panel at SDCC, and the lead designer said the line will be put on hold for the movie product, but that they would resume with the regular line afterwards (think Transformers). They also assured us that the movie figures will be in the same sculpt and that the movie cobra soldiers should fit right in with the existing line. That was good to know.

Yeah, the last we need is for the Joes to wind up like Tranformers where there's three or four separate lines running at the same time.
But then, I bet there'll still be Combat Heroes, Might Muggs, and other "cute" gimmicks sitting on shelves during the movie. I suppose those things sell since they keep making them... I just don't where.

So nobody will be buying the movie Baroness figure, or that cool snow sled?
I'm sure!
I'm glad of the hiatus too, so I can spend more money on movie toys! No way do I want multiple lines running at the same time.
A good Joe toy is a good Joe toy, and as long as they're the same body style I plan on army bulding movie Vipers as much as 25th ones.

Some people are so no, not me, not ever, not never. But I tell you I used to be an active member of a trans board and when people started in with how great the movie line is and how they can't wait for the animated line, I just had to hike up my skirt and get the f out of there. Times change but it should be for the better, Though I'm an adult now, I'll reserve judgement for when I see the actual figures, though they really won't fit in very well I imagine, because none of us were happy with casting choices.

I'll take that bet. I have zero interest in collecting any movie figures. I'll go see the movie, but I am not interested in collecting figures based on it. Same as Star Wars, I went to the prequels but never bought one figure from the prequels. I collect Star Wars and GI Joe for nostalgic/sentimental purposes so the new toys do not interest me one bit.
I also don't collect the new figures that aren't based on old ARAH designs (like the Wraith, the Bazooka Trooper or the Para-Viper).

What words are there to eat? Most of us have already stated that we could care less how great the molds, articulation, or whatever else is "cool" about these movie figures. The point is that the GI Joe movie line is not based on ARAH versions of the characters, and we simply have no interest in owning action figures based on the actors in this film. A cool sclupt is not going to make me change my mind and start troop building movie Joes anymore than a cool looking Indiana Jones toy would have me stocking up on wonderfuly crafted Nazis. Some of us just don't have to have every single item with GI JOE stamped acrossed the package.

Possibly, sure? But we are also getting the Resolute cartoon as well. And judging from the fan's responses, its looking pretty good.
Keep in mind, when the 25th line debuted last year, Hasbro was caught off guard due to the demand and popularity. As this continues, Hasbro will more than likely continue to make what we want. Provided the molds are present and such.

The Mocasin, Claw, FANG, Zartan's swamp ski, etc are completely new design/sculpt based off the originals.
From a business stand point, you can't just jump right into something new with out first establishing a foundation. Should the vehicles sales really well, perhaps we will see better and bigger and new molds.
As for the movie stuff, hey you are entitle to your opinion.

I meant new figure sculpts. ENTIRE new ones not just rehasing an old one and then cleverly disguising it to not look like a rehash ie barbeque. A good figure but nothing more than a solid rehash with a tank and shoulder guards to hide the fact. With as much money as hasbro is pullin in right now one would think that we could get some completely new, no re-use parts, figures. But thats just me :>

That's true Deckard, but you gotta love how they made a blue cg with hooded cc head for the wave 5 comic pack.
The best part about the hiatus will be that it will happen around the same time that my local WM becomes a Supercenter.
The best thing that could happen for all of us would be if Hasbro used the hiatus as a chance to stop making more waves of repaints and give us revision waves of army builders and frequently missed figs. Hopefully someone at Hasbro has already thought of this.

Personally, I have no problem with reusing the same molds as long as its done right with the colors and paint applications. For example, Major Bludd, VAC, Tripe Wire, ect looks fine to me.
Now just because Hasbro's stock jumped a few cents/share, they still have to cover their adminstrative cost and maybe employee bonuses. I don't know?

I'm actually glad it is going on "hiatus". I will soon have some breathing room. This line for me has gone from feeling like a kid again to a source of constant frustration, but I am determined to see it through.
I will be taking a break when the movie line hits, and plan on getting only a couple of figures/vehicles that fit in with the 25th in looks.
In 2010 I'll be in no hurry since I'm sure the first few waves of figures will "re-establish" the line with countless Dukes, Snake Eyes, Destros, Storm Shadows, Cobra Commanders, etc., etc. Only when they start updating/improving on classic characters will I start up again.

If they are good sculpts I will buy them. I can always use them as cannon fodder in the dios instead of the movie characters.
As for repaints, and reusing parts hasbro has done that since the the beginning. I don't understand the hate in that regard.

So if the movie line pops up with a new Night Raven none of you would buy that? The cockpit redesigned to hold the movie figures, which are, in turn, designed from the new Modern Era sculpts? That would be off limits?
How about if the sequel gets us a Terrordrome?
I think that when a movie style Baroness figure pops up we'll buy it. What if the Viper figures looked like the ones we have now, except that their uniforms are black and their hands are fixed? I think a few of them would sell.
Who here honestly isn't going to pick up a Christopher Eccleston Destro figure? To me, that sees like a given.
Granted this is all speculation, but these are some of the things I think Hasbro is hoping for. They want the opportunity to bring us some larger vehicles and the movie is the only path to that right now.
If and when the new cartoon is aired, and even if it does very well, Hasbro will still need time to get a regular series together. The cartoon would have to do extremely well, and ride the movies wave of success, if it has one, in order for us to get any other of the larger, obscure, or newly molded vehicles.
Maybe when they get to that point, Cartoon Network could air the "Pre-Adult-Swim-Friday-Night-Hasbro-Toy-Whoring-Night-O'-Toy-Cartoons? The line up could include Star Wars, GI Joe, and a new, more adult, Transformers show (which is being discussed last i read). That could go from 7 to 9 on friday night and lead into Adult Swim.

Oh, of course! It must just be that. How could it possibly be because Star Wars is a billion-dollar, multi-media property that has a 30 year legacy of top-grossing films, a thriving novel series, several long-running comic book series, tv shows, video games, RPGs, miniature games, models, etc etc. How could it possibly be that Hasbro has to pay big money to get the license to produce Star Wars, and that Star Wars is and will likely remain bigger and more profitable for them than G.I. Joe in the coming years.
It must just be "kissing Lucas' ass."
Jeez.
And, for the record, I don't collect Star Wars toys. I'm just capable of using logic.

And as for the movie figures, fine, don't buy them. More for me.

Tunnel Rat
Jinx
Raptor
I agree with all of your choices! These need to be released before the line ends! Especially Zarana and Zandar, they're two of my fav's
