[Sgt Humpty]

Tales from Castle Destro (http://castledestro.blogspot.com/) was born of my frustration at the short supply of G.I. Joe themed fiction available. That's not to say there isn't a lot of good material out there, but I was interested in stories that didn't feature the same small group of core characters. Determined to write the kind of stories I wanted the read, I started a fan-fiction blog and began work on a short story. I created new characters and dropped them into the existing world with the intention of exploring new areas. To my surprise, it was well-received by friends and fellow fans, who encouraged me to continue writing about the characters I’d introduced.

Thank you, gentlemen! I kinda needed the feedback more than I would with custom figures. I read and re-read the story so many times, looking for problems that I wasn't really objective about it anymore. I guess my ultimate goal here was to write the kind of story that I would want to read. I had a lot of fun doing it and I'll try to put together another one soon.

Sadly, the holidays have kept me from making major progress on it. Typically, I get sidetracked for a few days and then go on a tear, writing for a few hours straight. I'm very happy to hear that you're enjoying it! At present, the book is not available in print... Unless you choose to save it to your PC and then actually print it out. A couple of people have chosen to do that. You'll probably need to download the PDF version for it to work best, but since the book is free, it isn't like you're paying for it again!

I'm loving how you have different stories going for different Grenadier teams. The Demon guys are fantastic and I can't wait to see what Nirvana is going to do with the Elite Guard but the Undertow team is what I'm really excited about. Awesome work Sarge, like I said before I would pay for this.

Thanks, Matt! I would love it if some other folks started writing similar stuff - because I'd love to read it! I've always preferred the Marvel continuity versus the others, so I'm always careful to try and avoid contradicting anything from that run. Like you said, I'd like for my work to be compatible with what's already accepted, rather than in direct conflict with it.

Excellent question!

My protagonist is Sean Flaherty. McLeod was created as sort of a fatherly mentor for him. Every other character (excluding those created by Hasbro - Destro, Baroness, etc.) was created as "supporting cast". Most of them are very loosely based on my friends on the 'Tank's IG team. Some of them have gotten developed more than others, but there was never any agenda to do so. I just kind of wrote them the way I felt they should go at the time. As to the future - I plan to keep the focus mostly on Flaherty and McLeod, but the others will pop in and out of the story as often as I can work them in.

War009 is correct! All of this started with a single short story. When I decided to continue beyond that, I started publishing each chapter in my blog. When I finished the first major story arc, I published those 22 chapters as Volume I - Mercenary War. The chapters now being published on the blog will eventually be collected into a second ebook, Volume II.

I am trying hard to promote interest in my fan-fic blog, Tales from Castle Destro (http://castledestro.blogspot.com/). I also love a good contest. So, I've decided to host a contest at Tales from Castle Destro (http://castledestro.blogspot.com/), with the goal of attracting more readers to the site. Here's how it will work:

War009 is correct! All of this started with a single short story. When I decided to continue beyond that, I started publishing each chapter in my blog. When I finished the first major story arc, I published those 22 chapters as Volume I - Mercenary War. The chapters now being published on the blog will eventually be collected into a second ebook, Volume II.


WOW - book 2 is 6 chapters long already??? I just finished book 1 on my Kindle! I loved it, Sarge...pretty sure I told you before, but it was a great read. I clicked on FOLLOW awhile back...so I am set to win. :p

You can save the chapter and keep going back and adding to it until you're happy with it. When you finish a chapter, publish it and then go promote it at the various Joe sites you belong to.

You have to manually edit the chapter index. When you post a chapter, just copy the URL for that post, open the chapter index and add the new link.
