View Full Version : Snow Serpent G.I. Joe Modern ERA Review

Snow Serpent is another one of the gems that makes up wave 9. We've seen the torso, upper arms and upper legs already with Arctic Snake-Eyes but I believe the mold was intended to be primarily used for Snow Serpent since the left arm has that raised flat area perfect for the Cobra sigil. The lower legs are new as are the lower arms with a cool fur sculpt. The fur around the neck and shoulders is a removable piece. The head is dead on accurate with blue tinted goggles glued on. It's unfortunate that the goggles don't move but it doesn't detract from this great figure. Not to be outdone by the figure sculpt, the weapons are wonderful updates of the originals. Instead of a belt like the original, this time it's been included as part of the removable straps that cover the torso. The missile can attach to the side of the backpack and the snow shoes have a hole in them that aligns with the extra set of holes in his feet to allow Snow Serpent to wear them while on the stand. Snow Serpent comes with a Rifle, Backpack, Missile with stand, Snowshoes and a Cobra Stand.

The Snow Serpent is a perfect upgrade of the original. There aren't really any new additions but it doesn't need them either.

Figure Rating: 9 ½ out of 10

Excellent reeview,
I have passed up on about 7 of them this week alone as I think that more than 6 is enough. Funny thing is, they were no where to be spotted at the big 3 stores until this monday in my area of operation. On the other hand, I cannot find enough B.A.T.s, I have 7 of them, but I want more.

I think the Snow Serpent needs one fix: The backpack peg. They bend way too much. I'm still buying more though....

This turned out to be my favorite from this wave, beating out the bat by a mile!

Contrary to my own expectations, I found the Snow Serpent way way better than the BAT once I got him in my hands.
His gun stock is a bit fragile though. All three of mine have nasty fatigue lines from were they pressed into the figure's side when they hold their gun properly.

And has anyone tried getting the goggles loose? They really look like they were originally going to be movable.

just a fantastic figure from all accounts, i can't wait to get mine. He might be one of the best in the line, but i'll have to wait to make such grand declarations until i've got him in hand :)

If the goggles were originally supposed to be removable, then someone at Hasbro might have seen what happened with the Vipers and wised up. If I hadn't glued them down, those things would have been lost ten minutes out the package.

Excellent review. I have 1 MOC and 2 opened. I'll also get 3 more when the Artic set gets delivered.

My absolute favorite figure in the entire line. Perfection.

I love this figure. My problems with him are small. I have a hard time keeping his snow shoes on and when he is wearing them putting him on the stand and making him stand straight is hard. But the figure itself is awesome. I got my usual 3 of this one.

Great review. I knew from the moment I bought "Arctic Snake Eyes" that his parts were intended to compose two future figures - Snow Serpent and Kwinn. And I tell you, the SS is better, if only less versatile, than the B.A.T.

Not gonna lie, I think I'm gonna be sick. I have found one Seprent since this wave hit. No BATs anywhere, and I didnt even see the Serp on the pegs, my girlfriend picked him up for me. But having the figure in hand, He might just be my favorite released thus far. If only I could find some more!

Man! I want more Snow Serpents...this only makes me want some more even more lol! Does anyone know if this single release of Snow Serpent is exactly the same as the Snow Serpents in the extreme condtions pack?

The Snow Serpent is one of the best figures out there. I love the way he can hold his mortar launcher(or whatever its called) on his backpack. Now all we need is a new Cobra Wolf, dammit! I want a vehicle to put a bunch of these on!

i argue only this, a nice new update would have been shoe pegs on the pack for when he doesnt need to wear em but wants to carry em!

This has happened to mine as well. I prefer a two-handed gun grip (uh...that sounded bad), but I'm afraid I'll break the stock. That, and his anti-tank weapon doesn't sit as snugly on the pack as I would like. But these are, of course, very minor drawbacks. I'm counting on the EELs to be just as nicely done.

I believe the snow board was from the second version of it. I could be wrong tho.

yeah, that was firmly in the gone-downhill time period of Joe: Snow Serpent v.2 (http://www.yojoe.com/action/91/snowserpent2.shtml) complete with Neon and Spring-loaded weapon. i actually like the basic design of the figure, but the colors ruin it... while lacking in paint aps, the V.4 (http://www.yojoe.com/action/98/snowserpent4.shtml) version is a lot more palatable.

but the Jet-powered snowboard is just redonkulous. and that's coming from a hardcore snowboarder.

You tease me with a figure I can't find.

order the arctic enviro pack online....at Entertainment Earth, where i ordered mine at it works out to $38 for seven figs...three of which are snow serpents. three snow serpents would cost you $25 at most retail...and you get a televiper, two vipers (with different arms) and an arctic themed scrap iron.
that pack works out to less than $5.50 a figure. its almost like buying joes a year ago at walmart!

The forthcoming 'Arctic' set is the only reason I haven't bought myself more Snow Serpents. I know that when I pick it up my squad instantly doubles it's numbers to six, including an officer.

Picked up the SS and BAT a couple of days ago, and I must say, that they are 2 of the best, if not the best figures in the 25th line. Perfect updates of the originals. The Snow Serpent is amazing. I didn't think they could top the Spy Troops/VvsV/DTC mold, but they sure knocked this one out of the park. The only gripe I have is that my missile launcher won't go flush against the backpack, but oh well.

I wholeheartedly agree that we need some kind of arctic Cobra vehicle, weather it's a Hiss Tank or Wolf. Just some sort of transportation. Ditto with the Joes, while we're at it. With the SS and SnowJob out, and the upcoming 'Net exclusive Arctic pack, you gotta think they'd release some sort of arctic vehicle. Now off to buy more Serpents.

The only problem I have is that the lower leg joint is loose. I have opened up four and they are like this. I thought I had a bad one at first, but after I opened the rest, I became less interested in them. A very nice figure overall. I just wonder what happened here.

Woohoo! I just bought one and it's awesome (just like the review said). I like how the rocket thing sticks on the backpack, which totally reminds me of Boba-Fett. And I like how perfectly proportioned the figure appears (with all its gear on); the fur shoulder pads simply rock!

Unfortunately, I put the gun on the left hand first and the stock of the AK-47 bent back a little when it hit the wrist fur and now there is barely visible light gray area where it bent. ARGH! LOL. IMO this is the best looking figure of the 25th line so far.

its a pain in the ass to stand an keep up so watch ya poses, the back pack is heavy an the snow shoes are as annoyin as snake eyes's, this is prob my fav dude so far that an bat. i see that one pose you got you have him kneelin down to shoot the missle, thats dope i tried it but it was pissin me off so i got a bunch of suroundin snow job an snake eyes after the snuck up on an knocked em out from behind, but def a bad ass figure, looks incredable

I pulled the blue straps off mine, I think they look better now. I'm waiting for a gray face mask Snow Serpent, these aren't cartoon accurate. As great as these are, they should've had gray faces. The '85 ones should've had gray masks too.. I managed to get one into a 25th HISS tank. Why didn't Hasbro make the canopy interior larger?! They're releasing an Arctic HISS, but watch the Snow Serpents will still barely fit inside.
