View Full Version : Short Review on the Canceled Jurassic Park figure

A very good addition to jungle joes, works perfectly with spirit iron-knife as native americans.
http://img38.imageshack.us/img38/4799/54213290.jpg
The gears and body is exactly the same as roadblock. Repainted duke head.
Together with night adder, they are the tallest joe-style figures.
http://img829.imageshack.us/img829/5396/jp1j.jpg
Very nice and crisp tribal tattoo on the face and left arm.
The vest and boot leggings are dirtied/weathered. Clear markings of "JP" (Jurassic Park) & IN-GEN.
http://img402.imageshack.us/img402/6803/jp2t.jpg
The belt area is flesh tone, looks unfinished.
An easy head swap with speedmetal, the skin tone matches perfectly.

I didn't even know Hasbro went so far with the new JP figures. The only pictures I've seen showed the repainted A.W.E. Strikers with their drivers.
Thanks for sharing, that's really interesting indeed.

Weren't there supposed to be some AWE Strikers released as JP? This would have been a great figure to have. Too bad it never got produced.
Why does he look like John Cena and the other one looks like The Rock?

There's a prototype helicopter pic floating around from this cancelled line as well as the awestrikers.
From what I was told from a foreign vendor this particular figure would have came boxed with the large deluxe T-Rex.

Not sure if this figure would qualify but Hasbro did go after people that had prototypes from what I've read on JP boards. I don't know if it is big deal now but there is a post on 8/22/11 discussing it.

From what I read, it seemed that Hasbro actually went after those with the items, not just who sold them. Like I said, maybe it's not a big deal now but for them to go to those lengths seems to be interesting. I'm not familiar with the line or how they do stuff. Just thought I'd mention what has gone on elsewhere.

I wonder why hasbro was so adamant about not letting these get out? Where they embarrassed that bad about this idea? was it underwraps for a JP film franchise reboot or something? It certainly doesnt explain them being so aggressive about going after people for selling protos and ESPECIALLY those who had/have them. Very suspect.

Does Hasbro hold the Jurassic Park licenses? I'd heard these were produced as part of pitching a toy line to the production company.
If Hasbro didn't own the rights to produce items with the JP and InGen logos then these would be a significant source of risk to Hasbro...enough to warrent trying to track down the items from private collections.

the old jp toys used to be kenner and hasbro owns kenner (and i would assume all of kenners old properties) so unless JP went to a new company i would imagine hasbro could produce them unless there is a new movie planned and these were spoilers of some sort.

You're kidding, right?
You're going to track down a rare prototype figure, probably pay a pretty penny for it, and then turn it into a custom?
Just buy and repaint a Resolute Roadblock or Night Adder. You'll probably save a few hundred bucks.

Thanks for doing this review and sharing the pictures with us. I really like this action figure.
Although I don't really care much for the "Ingen" (International Genetic Technologies, Inc.) or "JP" (Jurassic Park) aspects of it, perhaps it is the Polynesian heritage of this unknown character. Sort of like the Samoan "Red Dog" of Sgt. Slaughter's Renegades.
The facial tattoo on the left side of the face is a Maori Moko of the people of New Zealand. It depicts ancestry on his father's side, tribal position (Ngunga, brow), hapu rank (Uirere, eye area), his marriage (Uma, temple), his occupation (Taiohou, cheek), and his birth status (Taitoto, jaw).
It's difficult to make out the details on the arm, but I guess to say he is a warrior wouldn't be telling much.
A nice figure! I wonder if the cancelled JP product line had any other figures worth reviewing?

I did an eBay search and they're going for $25-ish, but then I clicked one of the expired links from a page or two back, and in the You Might Also Try... section it had another one for $13! Yes!
Keep trying, fellas. Apparently people will keep posting them.
Meanwhile, this MUST have just been a figure produced for a pitch, 'cause they can't legally reuse that Tatum head for some other line, can they?
Yeah, I picked him up yesterday for $13. There's 3 or 4 sellers that have him, but the one I bought from (jiandan9966) was the cheapest, and they still have 10+ listed in their inventory. I can't wait to get him, he'll fit in great as a new Joe. Anyone give this guy a code name yet?

A codename to justify the "JP" would be nice, but I'm drawing a blank.
The tribal tattoo made me think of Jane's brother's band in Daria: Mystik Spiral, ha ha ha.

I'm working on a backstory of him being a Dreadnok, moonlighting with working for mindbender for an experiment. - I'm working the tattos into a whole samoan angle.
I haven't gotten to the name yet, but the JP will stand for Jurrasic Park in my case :p

Makes more sense.
I am also considering him for a role like Mercer, Cobra gone good, but I dunno yet, have to have the figure in hand to make that determination (He's on his way, 3 of him actually for some customization).
But mine will have a former Dreadnok background, just because the whole Samoan thing makes sense with the Dreadnoks being from Aussie.

Alright
My filecard on the guy, collected from the various ideas of other Hisstank members including my own ideas:
Dreadnok
Code Name: Leviathan
File Name: Dutch Haikili Aka Dino Fijian aka Rutorua Haikili
Place of Birth: Rutorua, New Zealand
-------
Growing up in the worst parts of Rutorua, New Zealand with his divorced mom who
left their father in Hawaii who sought a return to the family roots in New Zealand,
Leviathan was pretty much destined to a life of crime. His size gave him early work
as a bodyguard to the gang leaders that ran the place as well as muscle and torpedo
ventures very early on in his life.
Feeling that his style was cramped he sought out the Dreadnoks Bike club chapter that
resided in Rutorua. He was picked up as a probationary member or Jersey Prospect (JP)
His past is filled with misdeeds and his sudden bursts of anger and violence is only
partially held in check by Zartan who seems to know more about this mysterious man then
the rest of the Dreadnoks combined. His police record and aliases is almost as long as
Zartan, and there are rumors he had a short stint as a range keeper in "In Gen" a
dummy company that Dr. Mindbender used to clone beasts of various nature.
-------
Specialty and M.O:
Because of his size he is often on bodyguard duty or used when muscle is needed.
But he also has an amazing survival skill, having known to have been dumped in the middle
of the desert he still managed to get to the nearest bar (a few hundred miles away), and
have a drink before he tore up the place.
He has an unnatural ability to almost "dodge" bullets which is strange for his size.

So I finally got my figures. All 3 of them, one had a somewhat faulty knee, the 2
others were perfect.
I decided to paint the missing belt area, and also noticed that the insides of
the groin/pelvic area are missing paint apps, so fixed that on one of the figures.
Here's a bunch of pics which will be devided into two or more posts.
I made two versions one black belt and one brown belt with a gloss varnish.
First up, black belt (which will be my main figure):

Haradrel, I'm bitterly jealous of your indoor-photography skills.
Funny to see the Dusty belt on Zartan; I did the same thing for a while.
I love your paint job, but I'm bummed it was necessary; I might not have bought one had I known. I don't paint, and I hate when the inside thigh bit isn't painted. The belt's bad enough...
Meanwhile, I only ordered one, so I hope his knee is alright!
Great pics, great fixes. Thanks for sharing!

Monte, coming from you, whom I am bitterly jealous of all the fantastic scenery you manage to take pictures in, that means a lot.
I think I might have stolen/borrowed the idea from you actually lol. I do remember seeing someone doing it, and most likely it was you.
The missing paint for the belt can easily be hid with a long enough vest. The knee's seem to be okay on most, I guess there are some lemons out there, with the one I got it was sort of a bendy plug that made the problem, I can bend the leg, but not completely as it then goes out of socket for some reason, as if it's too bendy, the other two I got are perfect.

I have a B.A.T with a knee like that. Unfortunately, it's one of my two Resolute B.A.T.s, which is my favorite version of the B.A.T. Ah well.
And yeah, I'll probably use a big ol' belt or a vest or something to obscure his lack pf paint apps.

You can use a clear rubber band to tighten the knee. If it's the top pin, you can coat it with a thin coat of Super Glue. The rubber band trick works for torso joints too.

it's not the Tatum head. It's the first Resolute Duke head.
Which is actually still based on Tatum. The Resolute panel at Joecon 2010 said as much & showed imagery, & if you look at it, you can see the resemblance. This was done when Resolute was originally conceived & was going to be much more ROC influenced.

Is it because it is crooked? I had the same problem. A fellow tanker said to drop the vest in hot water for a little bit, pull it out and then put in back on the figure......apparently, you can then bend it as you wish so that it is straight.
I have not done this yet, but sounds straightforward....perhaps a fellow tanker can opine.
As my wife said, "you'd be surprised with what you can do with hot water".......not sure what that means!

I haven't read all 16 pages so far, but I just wanted to mention a couple of things. Sorry if someone has already said them. The Shadow Tracker vest fits this torso really well, and looks really cool (thinking about painting the neon, though). In addition to the ROC Speed Metal head, the MMA Tito Ortiz head almost perfectly matches the skin tone. Tito's face is just a bit lighter. I got the last one on clearance at TRU last week, and it works great for him. Gonna put Night Adder's vest on him and make him a Cobra or Dreaknok.
