I am a member of the Global Punisher Army, a forum dedicated to the greatest vigilante character in comic history. we have been eagerly anticipating this new movie, and when we heard it was being directed by Lexi Alexander, we knew it was in good hands. now it appears lions gate films has removed her for reasons unknown, and replaced with Gale Anne Hurd. we at the GPA need your help to get her back in the director's chair to bring us all the punisher movie we have been waiting for.
please follow this link and spread the word!

Hurd's IMDB resume...
Gale Anne Hurd (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0005036/)

The only decent movie is Incredible Hulk which Edward Norton and Louis Leterrier had to fight tooth and nail to get it the way they want.

This is sickening. Lexi shoot a film stepped in Ennis essence and the footage from comic con showed the brutal vibe. Now we are getting a producer with zero talent to take over the film from here. It is like Lionsgate wants this movie to fail. I am with you Driftbot, I don't know how many more times they can ruin the Punisher with studio hacks at the helm before everyone just gives up...

P.S. Anything she did with James Cameron doesn't count on her resume...We all know who steered those ships.

it looked gritty, and it looked terrible. her departure shouldn't be that disappointing.

I heard the same negative talk about the Incredible Hulk, people were screaming mad until they saw the film. I am still iffy on the Punisher project but I think destroying the creative process and bringing in a new leader half way through seems to doom the project from any potential it had. Go watch Green Street Hooligans, it is a great film and viciously brutal.

The movie could still suck with Alexander at the helm but lets at least give the film a shot...

either there were creative differences or it wasn't turning out well. for the sake of argument, if it wasn't turning out well, why should she be kept on just to give it a shot? seems counter productive to do so if the goal is to actually make a good movie.

sure, a movie can be brutal and good, but one movie accomplishing that doesn't man every other movie attempting to be brutal will do so. this movie looked terrible, and it was disappointing because the Punisher should be the easiest comic character to translate to a gritty live action movie.

About 85% of the time, I can usually predict whether I will like a movie much or not based on the trailer. I've seen a lot of trailers and a lot of corresponding movies, and can usually pick up the vibe of what a movie is going for and whether it is going to strike a chord with me or not by seeing such (there are obviously exceptions, such as when a trailer is created really early on in the process and is only a really simple "teaser," or when the creator(s) of a trailer intentionally fail to show us much).

Well I, for one, thought that Hulk looked great based upon the trailers, and I liked the movie pretty well. I also thought that Hellboy, Dark Knight, and Iron Man looked really good based upon their trailers, and in my opinion, they were all good. However, I think Punisher looks like garbage. So, I'm expecting the Punisher movie to be garbage.

Strangely enough, though, one movie that I was not drawn to based on the trailer but that ending up being freaking awesome was the Thomas Jane-starred "the Mist."

Spiderman 3 had a freaking great trailer and it was freaking terrible. Hellboy 2 had a awesome trailer and for me the movie just okay. Speed Racer had terrible trailers and was, for me, a great movie.

I am not a huge fan of the trailer. I dont dig the colors and the terrible pumping music. Not my thing. However, that doesn't mean I think you should pull a director off a project.

GunslingerCBR
Analogy. A painter is painting a mural. Someone doesnt like where it is 3/4s the way through and pulls the artist and puts another one in there. Now the new artist has no idea where to go, what was unfinished etc etc. And the original artist could have pulled it together in the end. It is just counter productive to do this. They hired her, they let her shoot the film, let her finish the process.

Gulfster

I signed the petition.Gunslinger is totally right about the Punisher should be one of the easiest comic characters to bring to life on the big screen.Tile that was a good analogy using the artist doing a painting to use for Lexi doing the movie and bringing someone else in to try and finish or redirect her work.I feel Hurd is just going to nail the Punishers coffin for good and we could possibly never see him come back as far as a movie would go.If Hurd does stay on we can only hope she might of learned from the previous Punisher and at least try and give the fans what they want. The rumor is the film now is only 82 minutes where as before was around the 110 mark.We can thank Hurd for the shorter film if true(please don't be true).I guess I'm just hoping the Punisher is somewhat close to what we all want and is successful enough for another Punisher movie down the road.I guess it's just a matter of a waiting game until the movie comes out to see how it all unfolds.

The Gunslinger is right. This should be the easiest character in the history of comics to adapt to film. He's real, the world he fights in is real. The death of his family and the insanity he is driven to are all too real. How hard could this really be?

well whoever the new director is, they better put the damn skull back on punishers chest cause the previews i saw of it didnt not show him with the skull on chest. I would not like to see a repeat of lundgrens punisher.

Did anyone see the comiccon footage? It was pretty brutal. It feels very Ennisy to me. And the colors make more sense, like Lexi was inspired by Frank Quitely's artwork. I am still pretty pessimistic though. Hopefully at least we get a extended cut with the stuff Hurd cut out.

I see a skull, its just subtle, not a big white skull that would be a target in the dark...more of a dark gray.

I just hate how The Punisher swings upside down on a chandelier in the trailer, if i'm directing, that scene never gets made that way and we come up with a GOOD less stupid acrobatic way of wiping out a room of bad guys.

There's no spinning chandelier Punisher's in my imagination.

Also, the XBOX 360 game "army of two" and the main character wardrobes would be a cool little bit of inspiration for some Punisher ass-kicking urban combat gear. Homemade armor plating to annihilate a room of bad guys.

that actually looks pretty cool, much better than the original trailer that surfaced. though it lends me to wonder how much of that is due to the original director, and if it was her shots just edited by someone else, why she was taken off the film?

I love the brutality of it, but she may have had no clue of pacing and exposition and the movie may be just a hodge-podge of brutal scenes. who knows?

I saw the trailer the other day, makes me sick. That rome guy IS NOT the punisher! I didnt even see a skull on his chest. Looking terrible, plus a no talent director, followed up by another low talenter, this will flop.

Jane should have worked something out, He was a decent punisher, and looked the part, Frank does not have a buzz cut!! stupid.

RolandofGilead
08-04-2008, 03:10 PM
Actually, I thought the new guy looked a heck of a lot like Frank Castle. Somewhere between the original Marvel Spidey Team-up era and the Tim Bradstreet design. Thomas Jane was a little too pretty, and his hair was a little too dyed.

Oh. I completely agree. The chandelier looks absolutely stupid. Boondock Saints anyone?

I think Ray Stevenson looks pretty freaking perfect as the Punisher in my book.

I am still pessimistic for this movie but that doesn't mean I want some studio hack to take over production and ruin any chance it has of success.

There's a bit more depth to the Punisher than a skull shirt, so the fact that he isn't wearing one doesn't automatically mean that they haven't got him 'right', surely.

All I ever heard from anyone involved in Warzone is that they were trying very hard to keep the Bradstreet aesthetic and that it would take place in New York.

Bravo New York.

The Punisher, in 34 years, has only ever looked like that on the covers of the Ennis Stuff. I always thought that guy was kind of skinny to be the Punisher. I also always thought that the Punisher parted his hair. I guess it was crucial to eliminate that to make this third outing on the character successful.

I'm psyched about Jigsaw. I'm not sure what to expect.

Nothing in cinema will ever top Dolph Lundgren fighting an army of ninjas.

F**K Ch**k Norris.

wow i stirred something up here huh?
thanks for your support guys. sign the petition and email those producers!

as for thomas jane... meh. would have been nice to see him back, minus hensliegh. that guy ruined the 04 film much more than jane could have. sure, jane doesnt look much like the punisher, but he had a pretty good feel for the character. he wanted the move to follow "Circle of Blood", and IMO that would have been great so i applaud jane's effort for that. unfortunately, lionsgate had other plans. enter lexi alexander and ray stevenson.
these two could be the refresher the punisher needs so desperately.
gritty? violent? damn right! that's what the punisher is.
and if hurd soils this movie to make her hubby's 04 movie look better, i think the punisher will truly never be seen in theaters again.

ray stevenson... to me he looks WAY more like the punisher than lundgren or jane. and its not a buzzcut! its slicked back. watch the teaser again and towards the end when he says he'd like to get his hands on god, you can clearly see it is slicked back. and parted hair? that's so jim lee haha nothing wrong with that, but it was in the 90's. make no mistake, most of my favorite issues were from that era, but it just doesnt have a place in modern films. bradstreet style is perfect to bring to film.
chandelier? eh. okay. so frank would probably never do something like that. but you gotta have something in there for the general public that is just going to see an action shoot 'em up movie. maybe the dvd will have the option of skipping that or something.

here's to hoping lexi gets her movie back. and to the possibility that hurd is only at the reins temporarily while lexi is on her honeymoon. or maybe hurd will be revealed as a skrull! heh. sorry, couldnt help it.

sign the petition if you havent already! thanks everyone!

Oh by the way we already know about EVERYTHING punisher war zone related already. The search box is pretty amazing.

That really is a bummer. I was looking forward to this movie. It looked pretty hardcore from the preview.

The only reason a film like this, or Alien VS. Predator, or the crappy prom night remake would go PG-13. Is so the film will make more money for millionares.

the GPA has thier facts straight. trust me. we know what is really going on.

as far as this looking like shumacher's batman... did robin blow somebody's face off? no? well, there you have it. this is NOT shumacher garbage. and as far as "the first one" that was starring dolph lundgren, not thomas jane. he was in the second one.

as for darthzartan... i think its a little obvious why you were kicked out of the GPA. anyone who reads this thread could probably agree with me. and by the way, your thread was about the movie. mine is about SAVING the movie.

anyway... if this really does come out as PG-13, i will not be seeing this in theaters either. i will wait for the DIRECTOR'S CUT DVD. if lionsgate even gives us one. i really did believe in what lexi and ray had created. now some big studio is about to flush it all down the crapper. this sucks.
