I'm a big transformers fan as i'm on TFW2005 all the time but I'm starting to love G.I. Joe ALOOOTT.
So my question to you all is.... After I finish The first G.I. Joe cartoon Is it worth it to move on to DIC, Extreme, and so on or will I be very disappointed.
I have been reading the comics also but I think I wanna watch the cartoons first as I did with Transformers.
Oh, and please don't mention the movie.... It makes me sad.
=(

DIC & Extreme aren't horrible (well that's debatable), but I wouldn't recommend them to a new fan.

New to Joe but hate ROC? Congrats, you can immediately declare yourself a "true fan".
Me, I've been into GI Joe for 30 years and loved ROC - That makes me "not a true fan" and unable to pass judgement on what you will and will not like because I also have no taste, apparently.

FTR i didnt hate ROC either, just what they did to baroness and CC mask. i watch it often with my son and he like all of the toys.
Resolute. Get this cartoon immediately. It is a distillation of everything you need to know about Joe.

my advice and or recommendations would be:
continue with the Marvel run of comics up to 155
watch Operation Dragonfire if you feel the need to taste the DIC cartoon, it's wacky but not as dumbed down or cheap (the whole reason DIC got the contract over Sunbow was they were cheaper) as most of the episodes.
read the GIJOE Extreme comics maybe watch an ep or two of that or if time the whole run.
Sgt Savage is a one shot cartoon and it is based(loosely) in the Sunbow universe. take an afternoon and watch it, it wont kill you.
skip DDP
skip Sigma Six
then
pick up the new IDW comics version that takes place after 155.
GIJOE Reloaded is well liked by a lot of people.
Renegades and Resolute are fine.
feel free to indulge in Sigma Six and/or DDP but be forewarned that they were not considered the best stories nor did they have the proper closure needed.

Get the hell out while you can. Are you reading the threads? We got people dropping left and right.... just hit the top right botton on the screen... its RED with an "X" on it.

Definitely read the Marvel run, along with the Special missions and Annuals. I liked the Devil's Due run - obviously not everyone did - but still a nice continuation, in my opinion.

I agree about reading the Marvel run, and the Special missions is a must. Skip the DDP run except for their Frontline Series, the Special Missions, and WWIII! Then move onto the IDW series, both ARAH, and their own re-launched titles.
As for the cartoons; watch Sunbow, and then the animated Movie. The DIC series didn't have the same production quality as the Sunbow series, and some of the story lines were pretty goofy, but you like the animated movie and want to see where that leads you can check out Operation Dragonfire.
Resolute was pretty good, and worth a watch. I've never seen Sigma Six, or the Spytroops and Valor vs. Venom movies. I've also only seen a few episodes of Renegades and was not able to get into it, so I wouldn't be able to recommend it.
If possible, skip ROC all together because it wasn't just a terrible GI Joe movie, but a bad movie all together.

I just got Into collecting after seeing some POC Joes on the pegs and how much better they are than when I was a kid. I got the first episode of Renegades free on iTunes and watched it. It was pretty good so I have been watching it on the dvr. I also have all the old cartoons on DVD that I watch sometimes but I really don't remember much about it. I liked the movie too but I'm not offended if some things are different.

I ain't gonna lie...odds are you will not like some of the other stuff.
In time you might find some of grows on you.
But overall its no where near the level of cool as the old ARAH stuff is.

I for one knew GI JOE from my childhood,I saw almost every ARAH episode.
But if you're new to the JOE-universe I'd suggest you try watching GI JOE RENEGADES ( latest cartoon series still on air )
It introduces the characters in a way you understand, and don't need to know the background on them.
If you want to know more background info on the otherhand,I'd suggest you start reading comics.
If there's 1 final suggestion I can make, choose what you like and determine what YOU like, not what OTHERS tell you is cool.
Oh,and welcome amongst us ;-)

I suggest watching every animated GI Joe cartoon including all the spin offs and I suggest reading all Joe related comics. How else will you ever know what parts of Joe you like and what parts you won't like? You have to experience it all and decide for yourself.
If I were a new fan and listened to the most suggested option I wouldn't watch DIC (which I like) and I would only watch Resolute (which I think is sub-par). But thankfully I grew up with Joe and all it's incarnations, so I've never had to have people suggest to me what good and what's not.

I agree. Watch it for yourself. If you don't like it, it won't turn you off to the whole brand, but educate yourself in what you like and don't.

Stick to reading the ARAH filecards at yojoe.com Everything else is whimsical garbage that will do nothing but confuse and dilute the Joe mythology.
(...course, i dig the whimsical garbage aspect of G.I.Joe, so it's all good to me)
