Ok, 1st let me preface this by saying this has gotta be the absolute worst f'ing thing in the history of movies.

I knew it existed and believe it or not looking up a song on youtube I came across a few videos.....enough to make me know this movie should be shot into space. 7 actual animals killed filming it? Wtf...

I saw a few clips and read up on it and I guess I'm just completely shocked, and maybe I'm getting old here but even.....offended? That crap like this got made.

Has anyone seen this movie that can actually say something positive about it? Just curious.

Friend bought it at home one day. I didn't invite him again since.

I heard of this movie for years but never took the time to try and hunt down a copy of it and from most people I've talked to who've seen it, they tell me not to waste my money. Can't be worse than A Serbian Film. I recently saw half of it and it's the first movie I ended up turning off because it disgusted me so much. I knew it was controversial but I didn't know why until I saw it. Really wish I hadn't.

Relatively speaking, it's actually a well made movie and Deadato is a compentant director (certainly compared to some of the crap perpetrated by Andre Bianchi or Joe D'Amato from the same period), but the animal torture is revolting and the whole point of the film is hypocritical. They're protesting the exploitation of the tribe for the fictional 'film within a film', yet perpetrating exactly the same thing by abusing animals in the actual film.

I am a big fan of Italian horror, but I draw the line between fake violence and real. Giallo, zombies, I love all those, but I've never ever followed the 'cannibal' genre. When they fished that beautiful turtle out of the river and decapitated it, I nearly threw up.

yeah, it's wrong and unfortunate that it has such a big rep in the horror world that keeps people interested in it. like rage said, fake is cool, real is not.

And a pig gets shot, and a monkey has the top of it's head sliced off.... all on camera, and all in the name of 'entertainment'.

Don't forget the pig was kicked 1st, a tarantula and snake were both killed as well.....

And wtf with the rape scenes?...

I owned Fulci's Beyond and Zombie but this shit is retarded.

The thing that pisses me off is when you say to someone youre into horror, I dont crap like this getting thrown into that barrell....this isn't a horror movie, it's just horrific.

I don't think it's illegal in the US. I remember seeing a copy at Suncoast or FYE years ago and was tempted to pick it up but it was $40 so I passed.

Is there any cannibalism in this movie? Kinda misleading title.

The entire 'evil Western film crew' get massacred, eviscerated and eaten at the end (unlike the animals, the humans do deserve it), and the tribe do a bit of chowing during the movie. That much at least is, I assume, movie trickery.

As far as I know, the uncut version of this film is still banned in the UK. It's a shame that this movie is usually presented as "proof" that all horror movie fans are sick, twisted individuals with no soul.

Sounds like garbage to me. I wouldn't watch this film if you paid me. So many "Horror" films, and even some action films are complete garbage; Hostel, Devils rejects, The Condemned, all of the saw films.

I don't mind violence and gore if it's in context to the story and serves a point, but films that are gory and horrific just for the sake of being gory and horrific, deal to the worst parts of human nature.

I see a bunch of 20 something writers sitting in a room saying "Lets see just how demented and fucked up we can be, let's find the most sadistic and cruel way to kill someone, let's force a man to watch his wife being raped and killed."

Actually, NO, let's not. How about they take their film and shove it up their asses and go crawl back into the de-evolutionary pool of shit from which they spawned. I just recently had this discussion in length with Powers Booth, and he said blatantly "It's not about the art anymore, it's about trying to shock the audience" well, I'm shocked and disgusted, good job.

Well, CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST was 1980 and the violence was, strictly speaking, in context to the plot (while at the same time being ridiculously gratuitous) because it showed how the fictional lost film crew had exploited the tribe and staged attrocites for the camera (ie: for 'ratings'). All well and good, but like I said, utterly hypocritcal because the real film makers did exactly the same thing by killing animals in order to make the film controvertial.

I pretty much hate all modern horror films - They're either excessive torture porn that assaults you like a sledge hammer until you're numb, or safe 'teen horror' with so-called beautiful people being slaughtered in a sanitized manner.

For me, real horror is best exemplified in the old BBC "Ghost Story for Christmas" plays. No gore, no cheap "boo" editing... just atmosphere and genuine dread brought on by interesting scripts, good direction and quality acting.

It's considered a classic of the "shock-exploitation" genre, purely because it's well, shocking and exploitative. I've never seen the actual movie, but from what I recall scenes from it were actually hijacked for the "Faces of Death" series (another series that only serves to further the decline of Western civilization).

Also, legend has it that the movie was so convincing at the time that upon release the director had to produce the actors from the film, alive and well, or face charges.

But as for any actual redeeming quality of the film itself, I couldn't tell ya.

Gotta agree with Crimson Rage: One of the scariest movies I recall seeing as a kid was "Legend of Hell House." A PG-rated horror film from the late 70's/early 80's that relied almost solely on atmosphere rather than "jump scares." The did a crappy remake of it a few years back called "The Haunting" which is worth watching only to see Owen Wilson get decapitated.

That having been said, I have high hopes for "The Lady In Black."

Agree 100%. It, and to a lesser extent HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES, was an attempt to recapture that 'golden age' of indie horror that's almost been squeezed out of existence by Hollywood.

Watched it a few years back after my brother had told me it was the worst movie ever made.

You know how I feel about animals...not a big fan of this movie.

In terms of quality, there are wayyyy worse. I (don't) recommend BURIAL GROUND: NIGHTS OF TERROR, HORRIBLE or ANTHROPOPHAGUS as prime examples. The first one has bizarre camp value, offering some amazing "did they just do/say that??" moments, but the other two may well send you to sleep as you await the 'gory bits'. Being a fan of horror films means I've seen some whacky examples over the years.

I'm not much of a horror fan...well except for zombies..I love zombies.

I'm more of a science fiction guy, my brother is the horror guy.

yes, the devil's rejects is great, that and drag me to hell are the only 2 modern horror films (or since tobe hooper's tcm2) i really love. it's like rob zombie saw exactly what was wrong with house of 1000 corpses and fixed it.
it's not the gore in hostel or saw that turns me off, it's the complete lack of substance and weight all those movies have. drivel.
