I can't freakin believe I played this and got as fas as I did as a kid.

I just recently hooked up my NES again and could only find NG so here I am ripping through the 1st level and really.....even the 1st level came off more like a 2nd level to me.

By the time I got 1/2 way through the 2nd stage I already died twice...now I've been playing it pretty much all morning due to my town being an island right now, and I can not get passed the 3rd level.

PS3 is either way easier than this or I just lack any skill I once had. I can't get over how hard the timing is in this game!!

I'm going on record right now: Ninja Gaiden on NES is absolutely the hardest video game I ever played.

I'm still playing and I can tell you there is no way in hell I beat it as a kid...I thought I did but I mustve mistaken it with something else.

Games were either much harder or I just suck...or both...this sh*t is redamndiculous!

A roommate of mine and I had a similar experience years ago with Ninja Gaiden. It ate up nearly a week of our lives.

All I can tell you is stick with it. The feeling of accomplishment will be greater than anything else you have or will ever attempt in life.

It's been an minute since I played Ninja Gaiden on NES. Don't remember it all that well. I did beat Ninja Gaiden on XBOX about 3 or 4 years ago though! :D

Oh I have been putting more time into my NES than PS3 and I used to could play the hell of of Batman and now I can't get past the boss on the first level!

Right now I am working on Tecmo Bowl and after getting an ass whipping from Chicago (with Walter Payton) once or twice.. it finally came to me how the hell to beat those hard teams! Once I beat that game, I will work on something new.

Double Dragon is another one I used to be good at and Contra and Super C but now... those games make me feel like I know nothing about games! I can beat PS3 games all day long but those damn 8-bit ones are kicking my ass! Must be the pixels getting to my head!

When I got around to downloading an NES emulator, I discovered all NES games are ridiculously hard. But you have a hell of a lot of patience when youre 6 years old and have nothing else to do.

I want to play the original Contra but I can't find it and I just want to borrow it for a few weeks. There is an awesome store or 2 around here that carries tons of NES games but I can never find Contra! Grrrrrrr.

Nope, I could never beat Ninja Gaiden. It's a fun game, but hard as hell.

I could never beat Battletoads either!

EDIT: Or the original NES TMNT game!

I gave up on Mega Man back when I was a kid, I just knew I'd never beat it without a game genie

DUDE Castlevania is PAPAS compared to Gaiden at least ya can't run out of continues.

Only NES Castlevania game I can't stand is 3 that bitch is hard no matter how many times I entered HELP ME and gotten 10 lives instead of 3, also Super C-sequel to contra spec code only get 10 lives instead of 30.

We've all been spoiled by directional pads that allow for more than just up, down, left, & right. I'm trying to play Blaster Master right now & that limitation is driving me nuts.

Day 3.

I haven't eaten or have seen the sun since I started this. I may have soiled myself too, I'm not sure since my senses are completely dulled.

Futile attempts to get Ryu to jump from wall to wall going upwards as some grim reaper looking thing throws swords at me and knocks me off....again and again.

There is no turning back. Tell my family I love them.

I bought this game on the Wii virtual console a few years ago. The furthest I got was the mountain level. I never played the Wii again after that.

One word for ya: BIRDS!!!

They were and still are, the biggest unfair bunch of BS things in the first Ninja Gaiden game.

I've actually been going back and playing my SNES games lately. Played all the way through Earthbound this past week.

Still one of the best RPGs I ever played and wish Nintendo would give a legit sequel to it. Not that Mother 3 game we never got, but a sequel to Mother 2 (aka Earthbound) with Ness and company again since it hints at them being the stars of a sequel in the ending.

Good thing for Madden 12 or I might have set myself on fire trying to play Ninja Gaiden anymore.

Wow..officially that actually sucked the fun out of video games.

I introduced my kids to NES recently... I forgot how hard it is. Punch Out will make you cry, I can't get anywhere on Double Dragon, I can kill Jason once on Friday the 13th, and I've finallay remastered Super Mario 1. My wife is playing Metroid... I can't even fathom how she knows how to play that damn game!

So does this make us awesome back in the day and just a bunch of washed up old fogeys that can't play Nintendo anymore? I know they say old people can;t do what they used to do.. but this is video games and a controller! WE CAN RALLY UP AND STILL KICK SOME ASS!!! Or maybe we are just washed up has-beens!

Well if it means anything it sounds like you're playing all the hardest NES games! lol

Friday The 13th was enough to give a 10 yr old kid a panic attack and Punch Out was def up there! I do love Punch Out though!

I think I'll stick to Bad Dudes and Godzilla....2 of my favorites and very playable games.

Though as you advance in Godzilla some of the bosses are CRAZY cheap!

I sepnt an entire day playing Castlevania or Castlevania II. I got to a put that I couldn't figure out what to do or where to go and gave up.

I bought GI Joe last year and played it for a while but gave up after some time. I need to go back now and try it again.

Play Cybernoid. That game is even harder. With that said, it took me a decade and a half to beat Ninja Gaiden 1. It wasn't like I sat down one day and beat it either. This was me and two other friends playing around the clock trying to beat it. One of my friend's finally beat it after a few day of trying, and I beat it on my very next try. The third friend still hasn't beaten it as far as I know. Extremely hard fucking game.

I recently learned that there's a better graphics version of that on the 2000-ish TMNT Playstation 2 game. It's one of the hidden artifacts you find. Once unlocked you can play the whole game (and everytime you hit Y I think, you get another life :) ) The only downside is the horrible background music....sounds like some honky tonk bar music :D

I'll have to see if that's up for download on the PS Store!

Regarding what The Batman said...yeah man, between TMNT and X-Men getting a couple guys on those machines was a ton of fun.

I still remember playing TMNT for about an hr with my uncle in the mall. (How awesome were arcades?!...especially "good" arcades!) Anyway...I always played as Donatello because I loved how you could end the attack with a Bo-Staff toss....My uncle played with Leonardo....and for the rest of the week I demanded my parents call me Donatello. Sure it didnt work, but it was a great game and my uncle being only 6 yrs my senior had it's good pts!

Ive been playing Metroid lately. Pretty easy still, actually. Maybe I just played it a TON when I was a kid, but its a cake-walk now. Double Dragon has been killing me though. I used to RULE that game, now....not so much. Master Blaster is awesome, and I also love the Goonies II game. Metroid, Ninja Gaiden, Master Blaster, Goonies II, Mario 2, RC Pro Am, Harvest Moon, Dragon Warrior Zelda and Final Fantasy consume me when I turn them on. Easily the most addictive games ever made.

NES is all about timing. Nothing more, nothing less. There really is no skill involved, its just jumping when you need to jump and shooting when you need to shoot. NOTHING like todays games at all. We've evolved with the games, thats why they seem so much tougher today. Hell, I whoop up on new Super Mario Bros. on Wii, then play the downloaded original and have a tougher time (although I can beat it in like 15 minutes start to finish). Its just different.

This thread inspired me to try my hand at Ninja Gaiden. I'm using Nestopia, an emulator and have been documenting my progress by saving at the begining of each level and boss fight. I've gotten all the way to the 2nd boss fight on stage 6-4 (The Jaquio) and he's impossible to defeat. On a good run, I can get within 5 bars of defeating him.
