So I was at my local Walmart looking for Joes. The 6 walmarts all within 10 minutes of me don't carry joes but I check when I'm there anyway. When I walk into the toy section, I see a manager and an associate talking. They were standing in front of the transformers 4 foot section. The Manager says "Man this stuff is always empty, what's the deal?" The associate then says "I don't know, let's scan it." He grabs a pricing gun and scans it. The associate then says "oh I know the problem, they haven't been ordered". The Manager then says "why don't you order them, they been empty for 6 weeks." The associate then scans each item. I find this very interesting, I have been checking for Joes for a long time. The manager said 6 weeks but it's been more like 10. Can't wait to check later in the week to see if they come in.

i would have a beavis-like fit of rage, repeatedly scanning over and over and over and over, as fast as i could, the whole time giggling like a maniac. :D
"MORE! hehehehHM HEH! MORE MORE!!! AAHAHAAAA!!!!"

"I AM JOE-HOLIO!!!! BOW TO ME!!! THIS! I COMMAND!!! MUAHAHAHAHAAAAAA!!!!!!''

ahem.

so. yeah. cool story.
i've seriously been wondering how that sort of thing works for toys at my base exchange.
i just havent run into the right person/situation to find out. my wife says i should just ask somebody for the manager. i'm tempted to do it.

*reaches for scanner*
"can um, borrow that? hm heh..."

Have you found any Joe figures at the exchange. I know at March ARB and Travis AFB they had the wave 1 figures... never thought about speaking to a manager to see if they had anymore in stock or if they can order any.

Driftbot

yeah spyder24 at JBL said they had some at travis AFB.
unfortunately, the BX/NEX in japan doesnt get the same products as CONUS stores, even though the manager has lied to my face that they do. (previous encounter with nintendo Wii)

i guess i can try the BX at camp zama. its about 1.5 hours shorter trip than yokota AFB.

good thinking though! AAFES is way better than NEX.

(i do keep my fingers crossed that 25th will show up here... they still get [old] sigmas and they got a bunch of TF movie toys at release...)

but with each day i keep getting more and more tempted to bite the bullet and just get them from evilbay... must... resist... SCALPERS!

Monkeywrench, that sounds like laziness on the part of the associate ordering, considering that those things should have been ordered 6 weeks ago.

I have been talking to the lady who works in the Toy Dept. at my local Wal-Mart on a regular basis . I stopped by last night but they did not have anything, I stopped back by this morning about 8:30 and she said "I was thinking about you this morning, glad you're here, I just stocked a ton of those new G.I. Joes". We walked back to the section, but there were only 1 CC and 1 SS there. Scalpers, or maybe Elementary School kids get their moms to take them to Wal-Mart at 6a.m. before school. Anyway she had this awesome scanner that will tell her how much of an item they have on order, and how much is in the warehouse, and when it is coming. She also told me that their registers are hooked up to a system that orders products automatically based on what they are selling. I was under the impression that they were just not recieving or stocking Joes, but according to my new friend they have been, they just sell out as soon as they go up. I have noticed a lot of other people stalking the toy section.

Thanks for the info Fridge.... I noticed that when you get to the store before they open, there are usually 2-3 people waiting to get in (It happened to me on Monday and this morning). I visited a Walmart that opened at 6am, 7am and Targets @ 8am and TRU @ 10am.

I posted earlier that i went to a local 24 hour WalMart and before they start stocking the shelves usually at around 11pm people scope out the pallets to find what they want, open the cases, and start pulling whatever figures they need. I've usually arrived there shortly after midnight and noticed cases already open (usually of the SW figures and the Mcquarrie figures and Expanded Universe missing).

I have yet to see any GI Joe cases other than the 8" figures on my visits. That may change tonight, since i'll try and get there before 11pm.

I've found the same thing, people opening all of the cases of collectable stuff. I don't want to do that, but it is getting so hard to find this stuff and I want it all! Too bad Hiss Tank does not have an exclusive store with a deal directly with Hasbro, I'd pay $50 for an annual membership.

That's an interesting concept! I've been lurking around here for a few months now and I bet there would be plenty of joe fans that would be all for the Tank having it's own exclusive store?!! I'd pay for an annual membership if I thought my chances of finding these things would be better!! It seems like Tennessee is the LAST place to get new collectibles!

Ok I have witnessed a new low in toy collecting!!

I continued my hunt this morning for wave 2. Stopped into a target on my way to work at 8:08am. I figured I would check it out and see if they had re-stocked some of the single packs overnight. Well they did! But unfortunately as I rounded the corner into the action figure aisle, this "waste-of-flesh" not only had all of the wave 2 figs. he could carry under one arm, but he was.......PURPOSELY BENDING AND CREASING UP THE CARDS ON THE ONES THAT HE HAD TO LEAVE BEHIND!!!

I give him a pre-caffeine, early morning from the pit of my lungs .."HEY, MAN!!..."What the hell are you doing??!"
I just happen to be wearing a dark red dress shirt and a pair of khaki's ( I wear various color dress shirts to work typically, but today for some reason the red was calling to me). I'm also 6'3 240 lbs. and look like Duke's surly little brother :-) So the guy looks up and sees me standing there, thinks I'm the store manager and loses it!! He drops the figs. on the ground and starts apologizing profusely! It doesn't even occur to me that he thinks I work there so I start laying into him about how there are alot of collectors out there who spend alot of their time looking for these things and that he's destroying property, etc. The guy hangs his head and does a brisk walk out of the store!

Meanwhile I picked up the 2x troopers, 1xbeachhead that I came for and left the rest on the pegs. I couldn't believe that though? What a douche-bag!!
Thought you guys would find that interesting?

Dude, YOU ARE MY HERO! I knew that trolls like this were out there hoarding all of the Joes. Collecting is one thing, even going a little crazy and buying many multiples of everything or troop building is okay, but that guy is the scum that keeps these boards humming with "where are they"? I think that ebay has brought people like this out of the wood work. Buying up high demand stuff to resell is capitalism, but destroying what you don't buy to ruin it for others is sick.

DUDE THAT IS CHOCK FULL OF WIN!~

I find it shocking that people would intentionally damage packages like that. Its not like the perfect one they are buying are going to be worth so much. By middle of this month most likely, the joes will be saturated. If not this month, they will hit saturation sometime, and value will plummet. So theres really no point to damage stuff like that.

Yes, too bad my friends on Kamino are no longer in the cloning biz, I'd build myself a grand army of the Swafus.

This gave me an idea though. I think they're flying off the shelves more for the anniversary packaging rather than the figure inside.

 OMG, this is the Star Wars OTC/Saga/UGH debacle all over again, only scalpers are going for Joes this time!

The funniest part of the whole thing is that I didn't realize that he thought I worked there until about 2 hrs. after that when somebody made a comment at my office about me looking like "i work at target" with the clothes I had worn today!!

....and yes I did feel like beating the brakes off of said "saboteur" but then I would have had to probably do time in Target-Jail and I hear that's a rough place , lol.

Hopefully this doesn't happen to anyone else out there. It's was a very bittersweet way of finally getting my highly sought after beach head and troopers.

Man... Ebay turned everyone with free time and a little extra cash in greed retailers. It's so frustrating to see toys that should sell for fair prices reaching the web first trough e-bay and gaining status of rarities instead of fun toys that should be available to everyone who likes them. I don't get why hasbrotoyshop and other big or serious on-line retailers aren't able to have this line at the same time and in good quantities as normal retailers. If we must pay for shipping to get our dear 3 3/4 little fellas, we should do it trough sellers that have fair prices and are able to do a quantity control of some sort. It would be wise from Hasbro's part if they send cases with much more army builders :-P
I think that in the next round of Q&As for Hasbro we should ask: "Why hasbrotoyshop, wall-mart on-line, Master Collector, TRUs-on line and others are always the last ones to receive the 25th Line?"

-------------------------------
I just wish that someone somehow tears and creases the ears of the guy who was doing that to the cards of the Gi-Joes figures.

To clarify what the original poster saw, stores CANNOT order Transformers product, and more importantly, it is the responsibility of the toy dept. manager to order out product.

Whenever a line gets really popular, corporate will often lock a store's ability to order them because...well...there isn't enough available.
Transformers, Star Wars and Cars are lines off the top of my head our store cannot order more of, we get what they send us when they can.

I understand what you mean about not being able to order because product is not available/limited quantity. Maybe I'm wrong, but it does seem strange that you can advertise something - "boys, action is here!" then get very little of said product to go 'round. I guess that was the same thing with the Nintendo Wii.

Do these swine actually hold meetings to discuss reseller tactics. This is ridiculous.

1. If he has a scalper shop (like the one directly across the street from my Target), then he can insure he has the only mint carded pieces in town.

2. The same applies for ebay or craigslist in his town.

3. If he's just a collector, then he did it to deliberately screw-over other carded collectors.

4. If he wants them loose, he can come back later and negotiate "damaged goods" for a discount. I don't know if you can do that at Target, but they do it occasionally at Freddy's.

I was trying to look at it from a scalpers point of view thinking that he could just as easily buy them, put them in his car, and return in a few minutes for the others and sell them too. Seems like that would be easier and take just as much time as bending the cards. You do bring up some good points though.

I went back to the Wal-Mart today. Sure enough the 4 foot Transformers section was jammed full. It's amazing, it was empty for at least 6 weeks, I would say 10. Then after one talk with a manager and the whole area is jammed full. Now if they would just carry Joe stuff.

Well, it brings up an interesting idea. If one was to bend all of the hard to find and 'rare' figures it would leave less chance of a scalper or reseller to grab everything and is no big deal to open collectors and kids. But still screws MOC collectors..

Ok. So first I want to say what you did was great. Because assholes need to be shown their place. The fact that he caved so easily tells you this scum knew exactly what he was doing.

For all the MOSC collectors, I know how you feel.

But if you're looking for a fig to open and display/play.. then sometimes the bent card is what helps keep the fig there...

I can't count how many times i've been able to find something that was so hard to find.. because there was a crease on the card or a dent on the box.

I'm not saying what this guy did was right or cool.

unless you live on a navy base in japan, where SAILORS work in the post office.

granted it was loose, but my 1:18 scale humvee arrived with the corner of the box caved in like somebody attempted a 40 yard feild goal.
success?
i opened it and sure enough the front right wheel had broken from the axle.
luckily i was able to drill a bit and glue a rod in there. doesnt roll anymore but i just use it for display anyways.

moral of story: MAIL CAN SUCK.

Manager had been very helpful and told me if I ever wanted to call first she would let me know if they had any Joes and save me a trip. I had called and flew over there when she said "they are in, I just stocked several cases". When I got there 20 minutes later she walked me back to the action figure section bragging about how many they had gotten in. We arrived to find two SEs and a SS dangling on the otherwise empty pegs. She said they had been there for less than 40 minutes, it was like 5:50a.m.

id say its the same everywhere as far as how fast the figures leave the shelves. im down here in the boonies of louisiana and both walmarts i check have 25th anniv figures one day, then gone the next. i know theres gotta be a couple people down here that hoard them off the shelves right away. but hey, its a free country, they can do what they want i guess :/

i managed to pick up wave 1 over a two week spread. just one fig of each tho im not a big collector of the newer stuff

Do you collect any Japanese toys like Kubricks Driftbot?

ironically, i dont really care for japanese toys (unless masterpiece transformers count? i only have 2 anyway).
whenever i go to TRU out here, i always look at the american toys. tons of star wars, but zero joes. :(
