View Full Version : It was george lucas' fault!

anybody that is unhappy with the way the latest Indy film turned out can solely blame Lucas...not only that, but if they make a 5th, he wants to F-up that one too...why, oh why, do people like to screw up the good things they already have going?...TOOLS!

"If I can come up with another idea that they like, we'll do another. Really, with the last one, Steven wasn't that enthusiastic. I was trying to persuade him. But now Steve is more amenable to doing another one. Yet we still have the issues about the direction we'd like to take. I'm in the future; Steven's in the past. He's trying to drag it back to the way they were, I'm trying to push it to a whole different place. So, still we have a sort of tension. This recent one came out of that. It's kind of a hybrid of our own two ideas, so we'll see where we are able to take the next one."

see what an ego gets you...thinking your ideas are the best, when in fact they are not...

I like Spielberg's idea to keep it the way they were. If it work's don't try to fix it. George Lucas' idea for Indiana Jones 3 is proof he shouldn't have total control over it, if not for Spielberg we'd have Indiana Jones stuck inside a haunted house instead of The Last Crusade.
Hopefully Spielberg can keep Lucas from messing up the Indiana Jones franchise. I hope he keeps him from making Mutt the main character and Indiana Jones just as a supporting character/co-star like was reported a few months back.

well at some point indy is gonna have to retire..i mean harrison is pretty old and lets face it NO ONE can take on the role of indy himnself so at some point there will have to be a torch passing, i just wish it was with a better actor than lebeouf. So many better choices out there i can tell you. lets hope mutt is revealed NOT ot be his true sone and a new actor is chosen to replace indy's "son". not likely i know but one can hope :>

replacing Harrison is a much better idea than Indiana Jones son. last I checked, the appeal of the movies were Indiana Jones. make a Indiana Jones without Indiana Jones and what is the point.

and, yeah, the last movie sucked and all I could think while watching it is that Spielberg just didn't seem that interested. I guess he wasn't, and it showed.

Lucas wanted the whole film to be about the alien stuff and Spielberg and Ford talked Lucas into tuning down the alien stuff. Considering the time period, the last movie took place in, the alien concept worked, as that was what was going on at the time.

well lets face it...as an archeologist at some point hes going to come into conatct with something not of this world. I mean the myans, the pyramids, etc etc. all things that at oen point or another were bleieve to have been constructed by aliens so it wasnt too horrid of a film to watch with the aliens concept. i liked it, i just didnt care for lebeouf

I saw the movie. Sure, it wasn't my favorite Indy movie of the 4, but I think there is a good movie in there somewhere, it's just buried below a few layers of cheese :)

I too blame Lucas for getting IJ to the big screen multiple times... but i guess it's more like an "appreciation" thing. Even more-so with Star Wars. They belong to him, that was the deal. And I enjoy getting to watch and be part of it all. :)

well like i said i didnt think the 6th one was horrible cause i mean you can only do religious relics so much. I didnt mind the aliens in it.
I do fault lucas for those god awful prequels though and tunrning one of histories greatest villians (Darth Vader) into a whinny puss.

this thread was intended more for the folks that feel like this last film felt kinda forced, felt like it kinda was outta place from the other three and felt that Fords and Spielbergs hearts just weren't that into the movie...

when i watched it i felt like Ford was just there in person, but he just didn't seem to have the enthusiaam as he did in the others (age has nothing to do with enthusiasm)...it felt more to me like he was like "F-it, might as well at least collect the fat paycheck even though i really have no interest in doing this"....he just didn't seem as witty, sarcastic, funny as he used to be (talking about his personality, not how he acted his lines), basicly, like i said, his heart wasn't in it, not to me...

and now we know why, addmitted by Lucas, that he wants to turn something that has brazillions of fans that love what Indy was, into something obviously out of place with the original Indy franchise...his age (lucas's) is affecting his writing...his original trilogies, BRILLIANT, his new takes, not so brilliant...he's going too far out...he's lossing touch with his fans (at least me)....

My 2 cents:

I liked the movie, but it didn't have the same feel as the first 3, it was missing that little something. I'll still buy it on DVD because I liked it that much.

I'm a little bothered by the Lucas quote as I've said this newest one was missing something the past ones had, sounds like living in the past may not be a bad idea in this case.

As for the aliens, I woulda been pissed had the NOT been used in this film. Sorry, but aliens and crystal skulls kinda go hand in hand. At least that's hom many of the theorys/legends/myths go

I can agree with a lot of your concerns. I myself liked the movie, it was fun and entertaining for me. I really felt Speilbergs presence in the movie. Remember "Close Encounters of the third kind?" Do I feel it was a rush "lets wip another few bil out for retirements sake"? yeah a little bit. It to me, felt like a Indy-hybrid. I liked it, not my fave though. Shia just got pinched in a DUI, from whats on the net so...he may mess up his chances for another. With this, I hope they DONT do a Indy Jr. thing and this franchise, as awesome and loved...should retire. I cant see them doing a James Bond thing and "this guys too old to play Indy, lets get another for moneys sake". Although, a new CGI of Jaws on the classic would be cool...Episode 4 Special Edition ring a bell?

I'll admit it wasn't the best Indy. It was different. That said, it was still a good movie, it just had a different feel from the classics, and I can live with that.

There was a story?? lol

I couldn't get past the really bad CGI. The other 3 Indy movies had REAL action and real explosions. This last movie was loaded with really bad CGI...yuck. That sword fight on the back of the cars looked HORRIBLE. The giant ants looked shitty too.

don't get me wrong guys, i liked the movie, but like many, almost all, have said, there was something off about it...well next time you watch it, pay close attention to Ford...he's like a robot in it...HE was what made the other films so enjoyable without a doubt, and when he's not into it, it just woun't feel right...that, if you ask me, is what is "different" about the fourth installment...

the popularity of the previous three movies and the long anticipation of a fourth movie is the reason this film made money. Not because it was a good flick.

I thought this movie was as close to a good classic Indiana Jones flick as we were ever gonna get. Well, right up until the end, and then it lost me. That being said, I don't know which surprises me more. A flame Lucas thread on a GI Joe site, or the fact that it's taken this long. This is the internet afterall and it just wouldn't be the same unless Lucas were responsible for the destruction of SOMEONE's childhood.

Not to detract from anything, but when has Harrison Ford ever shown enthusiasm for anything?
If you seriously go back and watch every movie he has been in, he plays the same sarcastic smart ass guy.
It doesn't matter what movie he is in, it's true.
He makes that smart ass smirk, and then makes smart ass comments.
So, when seeing this movie, I saw the same thing I've always seen....the smart ass smirks, and the smart ass comments.
I saw nothing different from him in this movie.
The story I had no problem with.
The only thing that was off with this movie was the lack of his whip.
He used it once in the whole movie. What gives with that?

That movie had potential. Indy was portrayed the right way (As Harrison Ford could only do). But the supporting cast was not that great. The acting was bad, digging Marion Ravenwood out of the ground was bad, the whole MUTT thing was way too predictable. But I could have lived with it all if it weren't for the JAR JAR FACTOR. Yes, George Lucas JAR JAR'd that movie right to hell. I'm so done with Lucas. Now I have to go and watch him butcher the Clone Wars in the movie theatre.

Ugh...

The whole "alien's built the pyramids" thing has been done to death so often that at this point it's horribly cliche. Also, that skull bore no resemblance to any of the ones reallly found. Lucas has definately jumped the shark (or nuked the fridge, depending who you ask).

One of the magazines talked about that a little. Harrison Ford knows how to use the whip like a pro (someone said he was cracking it and all sorts of jazz) But in todays movie times it's not OK for a star to be messing around with a bullwhip (insurance issues) and Harrison was adamant about not using a CGI whip (imagine the fight w/Lucas on that one) And that's 'probably' why there was such little whip use

I didn't like the Indy film much either...but for argument's sake, do you think maybe they aren't losing their charm...but that you (or society) has outgrown that old charm?

They can't do the same old Indy type of thing because of the critics complaining about predictability and "same movie, different title" bullcrap. Keeping the things fresh is what keeps franchises going. This can sometimes be done succesfully (See ROCKY BALBOA) or unseccesfully (Rambo, SW Ep1, Indiana Jones)
