View Full Version : Barbecue G.I. Joe Modern ERA Review

Barbecue is one of the examples of when reused molds can be a good thing. This figure is mostly made up of a Wild Weasel body with a few additions to it. Those additions make all the difference.
New removable Shoulder pads, Belt and Air tank make the torso look like a whole new part instead of the same thing we've seen on Wild Weasel and Snow Job, while the new gear on the sides of the legs and the new lower legs along with the new Head round out a classic look on this new figure. Barbecue has all the old gear you know and love, Fireman's Axe, Backpack tank with gun spray nozzle attached by a hose and a GI Joe stand with his name on it.
This is another great update to a classic figure. The reuse of body parts on this figure is only slightly noticeable and doesn't detract from the figure in any way. This doesn't look like Wild Weasel disguised as Barbecue, it is Barbecue. I would have loved a removable helmet on this figure, but the result may have wound up being just too much stuff on the upper half of the figure.
Figure Rating: 9 out of 10

did the same thing delta, cept i plan on painting his hair more reddish like it was in the toon, the reddish orange color to match q more. :> I think the only thing that woulda made this figure a 10 is if he had someplace to attach the handle to his firefighting thing.

we would like a cartoon version of barbecue with a new head and a removable helmet maybe for the dvd pack.

I like the fact that the helmet isn't removable...sometimes there is just overkill. However, I really like your idea of a hook...or clasp, to hold his gun. Overall...a really nice figure to go along with a solid wave 9!

its a pretty okay figure to me. space on the back pack for the nozzle wouldve been nice....or space on the back pack for the axe wouldve been nice. i like a figure that can stow their accessories.
im glad to have it, but i think it couldve been a tad better.

Posted from the other Barbecue thread:
Sooo....has anyone been able to get his left hand to hold anything?
Other than that one glaring flaw, he's damn near perfect. Although, I think that tank on his chest is a bit large....and looks like a perfect bullseye for any Cobra Trooper or sniper. :p

it rocks.
the only problem i have had with it is the aforementioned left hand, I used a clear rubber band to hold the axe in there, its not too noticeable or anything.

He looks better without the shoulder pads. They just make him look fat and bulky.

I think it would be sweet if they make barbecue in sgt. slaughter maurader colors 25th style too. I also agree about the removeable mask, although everyone and their brother knows what he looks like. Im 50/50 on it though. either way still a sweet fig. I'd also like to see blowtorch very soon also. I really hope his helmet and mask are removable just like the orginal. I think they should skip regular charbroil and go right to nightforce, he always looked better anyway!

Please to know mine isn't the only one with left hand trouble. He holds his axe pretty well until a breeze brushes him.
Aside from that tiny little thing, I like him a lot. Not sure if I'd like to see a removable mask or helmet(though that would be cool) as this is like the figure I remember. I do agree with those who have said a clip or something for the nozzle would have been nice.

I am still holding out for the blowtorch that comes with the pork chop sandwiches......he would definitely hang out with my Mr. Lafitty...umm I mean Gung Ho.

Just got mine last night. I love it. He was one of my favorite figures as a kid and this new one just rocks. My only gripe was that it was a little difficult for him to hold both his ax and his gun. His left hand was very loose/open.

I found that while it's not the best, his left hand holds the nozzle better than the axe. On a funny note, one of mine came with a base that says "Cobra Viper" on it. I suppose if I'd left him in package, it would be a novelty. At any rate, he's been one of the hardest to find, but he's well worth the wait.

Back, barely. Forward... maybe 30 degrees?
