That looks like the reloaded version. Totally awesome. I love sideshow's approach to the line. I wish Hasbro would do a small subset that takes on those same fundamentals of realism with the character signatures added.

You know, if these things were 80 like they were supposed to be and not friggin 110, we'd be in business. Forget that crap. I'll never pay for a toy the price of a hooker.

Two girlfriends? You realize your paying more for sex, than if you were paying for hookers right?

Sideshow should have the commander at the SDCC. Darth Vader, Stormtrooper, Rebel trooper will be there so I expect Joes to be there as well

I wonder what he looks like without the trenchcoat. If he looks like classic Cobra Commander then it is awesome. I really don't know if I want this one. The money....arghhhhhh!!!! Can someone from hisstank start buying lottery tickets for us so we all can afford all the gijoes!?!

Depends on how much they are trying to rip us off for this go around. Sideshow used to be one of my favorite companies but they must have new management-they've become ridiculously "over-enthused" with their pricing. Don't feel like I'm getting what I'm paying for with their new price perspective.

Just placed my pre-order for Snake Eyes, and that Cobra Commander will be mine as well, so long as it doesn't go for more than $120.
At those prices, I'm definitely going to have to limit this collection to a half a dozen or less pieces.

I was planning on just focusing on the Joes for this line, but this Cobra Commander is just looking too awesome to pass up.

who knows? I'm holding out hope that it was just Snake Eyes at $120. even if the rest are $120 I'll pull in the overtime for figs.

RolandofGilead

$80 is somewhat doable. but $120 or more is not. This will definitely not be a "collect them all" line for me.

tile_mcgillus
07-23-2008, 01:31 PM
Yeah. $120...for one figure when they pumping out one every month is just not going to work. Sideshow....please help us help you by lowering your prices so we can all buy it and you make more money...right?

This figure is based on the upcoming movie, right? If so, why does he have "old" looking eyes as opposed to Joseph Gordon-Levitt's (Cobra Commander's) "young" eyes?

It's not based on the movie. This is what Sideshow's design team came up with, which was then approved by Hasbro.

There's a pretty thorough video about the design process for the Joe line (http://www.sideshowtoy.com/videos.php?videoID=216) at Sideshow's site.

Couple of things here: first off, a lot of the most recent price changes at Sideshow are because they are trying to improve their products to match the 1:6 industry leader (and their often business partner), Hot Toys. The Joe figures utilize a brand new body, the Prometheus, which looks to be comparable to the best in the industry. None of the figures using this body have shipped yet, so it's not entirely possible to rate the value of these items yet.

Secondly, haven't you noticed the general surge in pricing on action figures industrywide in the last couple of years? $7.99 for modern RAH figures or Star Wars figures is now the norm, so the general price increase for Sideshow products is roughly in line with this.

Did we really think our plastic pretty plaything were not going to shoot through the roof prce-wise when we started running out of oil? We're getting hit twice, once for manufacture, once for shipping.

(Worth noting: while I may be coming off as a blanket apologist for Sideshow, this is far from the case. I've been very vocal about getting Sideshow to improve the quality of their basic body and paintwork for several years now, and figures like Snake Eyes and Cobra Commander and Indiana Jones and Obi-Wan Kenobi in Clone Armor are the fruit of this. Better product is going to net you a larger price tag.)

Sorry if this is overly pedantic, as you may know all of this already, but I figured the exposition was worth it since many RAH collectors are brand new to the world of high end toys, even if you're not.

I'd say that the helmet would make a nice Exclusive item, but that would barr Sideshow from milking us for a second Cobra Commander.

And as far as price being the cause of inflation and better parts, I point you to Sideshow's latest SW figure, Jedi Master Ki-Adi Mundi. The figure has no extras, is using the same old body as the rest of the SW line, there is nothing special about his robes, yet he costs TWICE as much as I paid for Jedi Luke, Anakin, or Obi-wan at the start of this collection. That's a huge jump in price with no advance in design. I didn't realize inflation was that bad.

WOW. I have to say, and I'm likely to get flamed, but this figure blows away Snake Eyes. I never even considered Snake Eyes at 120.00, but this one not only makes want to order it, but go back and get S.E. too.

Snake Eyes doesn't come out somewhere between Jan and March of next year so I don't think you'll see the commander there at SDCC..
