I opened my first one last week, but just put the decals on today. It took me about an hour with my trusty x-acto knife.
Solid review. I think I'd rate higher than the 3.5 out of 5 stars though. I never had the original so I can't compare the two. I hope it sells well so we can get something else of similar size.

It's my patented 3.75 stars... but yeah, I was pretty conflicted. I was really trying to think of how to look at it, and ultimately, while I think they did a great job, I know the single person cockpit, the missile issues, the swing-wing being connected to the landing gear still, and the trouble with the tailfin stickers blending in knocked it down a few pegs.
They certainly get credit for bringing it back, and I do enjoy the vehicle a lot, but it's not quite as perfect as it probably could have been.

Thanks for showing the tail fin options at the end. About how long did it take to put the stickers on?

I was recording an episode of What's on Joe Mind at the same time, but it probably took about 90 minutes while working on that...

I don't have an issue with the missiles on mine. I know many others said they have issues with them though. The single person cockpit makes sense because these figures are bigger than the OG ones. It would have been nice if they could have worked that in, but it doesn't bother me. It just seems a little low compared to your rating of the other 30th vehicle you have so far (Black Dragon). JMHO I guess.

Great review. I really enjoy the updated Skystriker and your pictures really make me want to apply the decals!

Love the new Skystiker... only have a few issues with it.
First I kind of wish it was white... but the grey isn't bad.
Second I wish the stripes had white on them so it was red, white, and blue. Actually a few of the stickers need some white in them like the stars, Joe logo, etc.
Third I wish the tail fin stickers had white outlines so they would show up better... some of them don't really even show up even the Screaming eagle sticker gets a little bit cut off by blending into the tail fin.
At the end of the day though these are minor gripes... but they would be good running changes for Hasbro to implement on the sticker sheets.
Can't wait to do my Steeler custom Skystriker though with the PoC stickers and a Steeler's logo on one of the tail fins with Steeler as the pilot :)
Saw that in your review about Steelers colors... but me and notpicard were talking about doing this on Wednesday at his place... I'm sure it will anger some people :D

I'm a Colts fan obviously, but put the yellow and black stripes on there. It looks good with those colors on it, didn't think about them being Steeler's colors though. It could be Pittsburgh Pirates colors too I believe.

It could be the Pirates or the Penguins.

That's true too, could be the Penguins NHL team colors.
I was dead set against this because I still have my Skystriker. After reading your review, I'm on the fence about getting this. My vintage skystriker from my youth is sitting on my workbench awaiting a good cleaning and eventually new stickers. I'm content with having just that but I'm loving the new cockpit and Capt Ace. They finally ditched the space helmet.
Now can we get an updated Rattler for Wild Weasel. Perferably one with a retooled landing gear.

Ya know, the more I think about it, my biggest complaint is that Hasbro didn't include any interior control stickers.
Look at the picture you took of the translucent blue (targeting display?) part, that just screams to have a sticker on it as do the blank recessed areas behind it.
I too like Ace and I'm glad they got some eyelashes on that head. Keeps Ace from looking crazy :D
Anyway, good review man!

Excelent review as usual mate. I love your pictures they are so clear and crisp and you always manage to capture all the little details. I almost passed on this myself as it does look a little dated and my Joeverse is a little more modern, however I have always loved the look of the F14 and to justify it to myself I'm saying that it is only the shell of the old school jet fited with state of the art and even prototype components hence why it is only a one seater and is called the Skystriker. Thanks for the awesome review Justin, keep them coming mate. :)

Thanks very much, all!
Shogi, I agree with that. Interior stickers would have been nice. Though I'm gonna be the LAST guy to recommend "more stickers" to Hasbro! Ugh.
