Welcome to the latest
Slayer Design Studio Toy Customizer Contest
The contest theme is
Space Sci-Fi
This theme was chosen by SDS members.
Original or existing properties that are placed in the Space Science-fiction setting. Typical staples of the genre are aliens, blasters and adventure.
Note: The more creative you are the better your custom will fair in the final vote. You are welcome to do Star Wars based customs, but if it's something people have seen before, they may not score you very high.
Construction
This contest is open to customizers of all toy lines. Although SDS deals primarily 1:18th scale action figures, the contests are not restricted to any particular toy style. Your custom can be made of any type of toy or even scratch built. It doesn't have to be a figure. It can be a vehicle, toy gun (Nerf), building blocks (Lego), etc.
There must be some sort of physical modification (sculpting, part swapping/adding) and painting.
How to Enter
• Create a post in our Finished Customs section (http://slayerdesignstudio.net/index.php?option=com_kunena&func=showcat&catid=21&Itemid=64). Your title should start with "8/11 Contest Entry". This will help me sort through the threads.
• You must include a minimum of 4 pictures of your entry in the post. Off-site image galleries do not count toward this minimum and will not be used for judging the presentation category.
• You must include a recipe list.
• Please indicate how long it took you to make.
• It will also help you to write a few words about the idea for your entry.
The Details
Anyone may join this contest. This includes people who just find out about our site through this contest. You can be a first time customizer or a professional. Previous winners may win again.
You are welcome to submit as many entries as you wish. If you want them considered separate entries, they should be in separate posts. Please note that depending on the number of entries, multiple entries may be pre-voted and reduced down to the "best" one for final entry.
Entries are due Saturday, September 3rd, by 11:59pm EST.
Your entry must be made for this contest alone.
You may not enter anything that has been previously posted here or posted elsewhere. Once you post it at SDS (http://slayerdesignstudio.net/) for the purposes of the contest, you may post them elsewhere to promote your entry. To remain qualified, any off-site posts may not be a full gallery (1 or 2 pics maximum) and MUST include a link back to your official entry at Slayer Design Studio (http://slayerdesignstudio.net/).
Prizes
All valid entrants will get a 15% discount code to be used on the PO immediately following the contest. For each contest you participate in a row, we'll add 5% to the code up to a 30% discount.
A first place entrant will be determined from a list of finalists by member judging. In addition to the discount, that entrant will receive a parts prize pack. As an added bonus, he/she will also get to request a special part (head, torso, prop or weapon) to be created by SDS artists and added to the store. (Exception: No self customs)
How to Qualify for the Win (i.e. How Not to Suck)
Post only clear detailed images. Blurry images take a lot away from the entry. On the same note, small phone images don't help either. Use an image resizer to cut, crop and resize your images so that we mostly see your entry not your dirty laundry hanging in the background. Thematic photos are a big plus. Note that your entry is rated on Presentation! (If people can't make out your entry, how can they give it a good score in other categories?) Only the photos included in your post will count.
Be creative. Think outside the box! Try to do something that has not been done before. If your idea seems rehashed you may score low in "Creativity". Unique ideas score higher!
Put some effort into it! SDS members will vote on your paint and form. A lack of effort will show, and they will rate you low for it.
Please mind the rules so your entry is not disqualified. Failure to meet qualifications will get you disqualified unless you can correct the issue. When in doubt, ask me.
Good Luck and please spread the word!
