Zartan looks incredible. I'm waiting for my first 2 Sideshow figures to arrive (Firefly from ebay and Sniper from Duffmann) so I'm waiting to get then in before I buy more. However I have a feeling Zartan will be ordered in a week our so. The RnR looks good but if you didn't tell me who it was I probably couldn't tell. He just doesn't scream RnR to me. I've been a sucker for the Cobra figures but (other than Beachhead and Dusty) I haven't cared for the Joes I've seen.

Both look incredible and I would love to pull the trigger, but I am passing. They are sweet though.

One thing I was disappointed in is that they didn't have the gallery shot that shows the figure with all the gear spread out. Maybe it will be a later addition, but it is always nice to see.

Pre-ordered Zartan but I'll have to pass on R&R for the same reasons that have already been stated.

I was just looking at the price and quantity difference between the G.I.JOE and Star Wars lines and I was pretty shocked. I wonder if they were to double their order quantity of Joes to justify bringing the price down (I'm assuming that is their reason for charging so much more) would the line develop a larger fan base by having a price point from the $60-$100 range and would there be enough of a demand to cover their order?

$160 is outrageous and I hate the fact that I am dumb enough to pay this much but Zartan looks pretty damn awesome!

THANK YOU Sideshow!! Why why why can't hollywood costume department do this in the Joe movies? Esp would have been nice for Rise of Crap. Take for example the outfit the SS Duke has wearing. WHY couldn't Tater have worn that uniform instead of the ridiculous X-men style armor?? If Chu was to cast Rock n Roll in Joe 2 Please have him wear a uniform similar to the SS figure. It is just enough "modern" and still resembles 82' RnR.

Same for Beachhead, Flint etc. Why can't the costume department make clothing (on a human scale) similar to the BH and Flint SS figures. Instead we might get Flint in the X-men armor as well.

The exclusive is just kind of a tip of the cap to the early adopters I think. Something to give people incentive to buy right away rather then sit on it and maybe change their minds.

I kind of prefer if they are doing a RnR figure that costs nearly 150.00 that they'd actually give us one that makes some design nods to the later version. It just seems like the Joes are too uniformed and soulless unlike their Cobra counterparts.

I do want to know if there's something in the comics that connects with his Exclusive head since that one has a scar around the right eye that the normal one doesn't.

I think Zartan comes with the Breaker mask and the exclusive comes with the Duke switch out in addition, so no need to buy both. He comes with a ton of accessories, but just look at the detail on his armor and boots. Does it justify the highest price tag since the Viper? Depends on how desperate you want him...

I'll admit that I like the Rock 'N Roll figure. But I think he looks too clean. It's like Rock 'N Roll on his first day. He needed to be a bit dirty or dingey. And I think a cap would have been a better choice than a beret.

But while I think Zartan is the single best character ever from G.I. Joe, I'm not liking this figure of him. At this scale, he looks like he fits in more with Star Wars figures than G.I. Joe. He comes off looking a lot bulkier than what I'd imagine. He doesn't exactly seem stealthy. He'd be clanging around like he's carrying pots and pans. But at least he has that armor to protect his shoulders and thighs. We all know they never shoot for the head. :D

Noticed on the accessories that RnR comes with "surfboard stickers", meaning you can customize what logo or phrase is on the helmet. Although, "Cobra Don't Surf" is a clear nod to Apocalypse Now, maybe they will have other items like a bass guitar or surfboard. while i think zartan is very nice the hood seems off to me. it needs the point dipping down the middle of his cowl like the 3 3/4 versions...that's one of the things i've always loved about the look of the character. the sideshow proto just kinda looks like he's got on a ripped up sweatshirt or something. The original Zartan didn't have the point that was somthing that showed up in the comic or the cartoon first. Either way I agree. I think there is something about it that makes him look more sinister. I always thought the original kind of looked like a frog with a towel on his head.

Wouldn't surprise me if SDCC '12 exclusive being a blue skinned Zartan.

I also noticed how the prices on the SS JOE figures have been creeping up, but this is for three major reasons:

1. SideShow is a partner and distributer of Hot Toys and uses their patented figure stands now and probably a few other things, so if they want to be on HT's level with 1/6 figs their price points are going to have to be similar to Hot Toy's as well.

2. The quality grows with the price of these figures. So even though they are getting more expensive they are also getting better. Look at the detailed musculature on R'N'R and Zartan's forearms and even more notable are the much, much improved headsculpts. That was truely a Pet Pev of the previously released figures.

3. ...and the last reason they are more expensive is just becasue they know people will still buy them. They will never exceed Hot Toys prices though, becasue they cannot justify that unless there are some really really crazy accessories with the figure.

I think one of the reasons for the price increase is the cost of new tooling for their arms. Both have new muscle arms, which none of SS's figures have had. They are not the Hot Toys versions either, completely new. Get an upgraded feature, expect to pay for it. Now if they could only improve the paint apps.

This was a rough month for me with Sideshow...Ninja Viper, Stalker and a wait list Beachhead exclusive version all charged the same week. My wallet is screaming in agony...need a break from buying $140 "action figures", especially now that the 30th, figures and other vehicles are hitting or will in the next few weeks.

bummed the bandanna head for RnR is the exclusive one. That's a good modern take of the character. The regular version, while a fine sculpt and figure, it's too generic/vanilla for my taste.

Yeah I don't remember the original cartoons well enough to know if there was a story where Zartan pretended to be Duke... but since its Zartan and there were a lt of episodes i assume there has to be something.

In "Knockoffs," Flint and Lady Jaye use Zartan to help them track down the Joes. He has Flint lend him a GPS, since he had a tracer on the motorcycle that Snake-Eyes stole from him. During the conflict between a Cobra transport, the Joes, and the Falcons, Zartan knocks out Lady Jaye and makes his way into a Cobra Van, where he equips himself with a chameleon-type wrist device. This outfits him in a suit (resembling the one used in the other cartoons), which will enable him to mask his appearance, by taking the form of anyone it scans. Zartan uses it to take the Cobra van to get away from Flint. During the conflict, he tried to dispose of Scarlett by disguising himself as Duke. When the real Duke arrives, Snake-Eyes takes down Zartan, as his heartbeat is different from Duke's. Scarlett touches the suit, which results in a surge that leaves black burns around Zartan's eyes as she removes it. Zartan is taken back to prison while Baroness takes the chameleon mold to Cobra Commander. I don't recall him impersonating Duke, but I know in the comic, he impersonated Hawk to get through security at Fort Wadsworth. I know the mask that Zartan comes with is Breaker, like the 3 3/4 version. I know the modern era Zartan came with two masks, but don't recall who the other one was along with the bearded Breaker.

The Rock 'N Roll looks a little... plain?
I wish we could have gotten something a little more interesting or detailed. He looks just like a standard army machine gunner from Vietnam. Not even camo.

I was hoping for Low-Light or Spirit or Torpedo... a charcter with an interesting uniform and cool accesories.

Rock N Roll doesnt wear Camo.Sideshow based the figure off his first rendition (green shirt) and added extra elements such as back pack etc.....Rock N Roll is looking to be their Best Joe in the line so far

But that's the thing, they gave us v2 Snake-Eyes, and v2 Hawk... why do they feel obligated to give us RnR in his least interesting uniform? v2 RnR would have been cool... especially with those crazy mini-guns.

And the berets only make sense if they came from units that wear intersting berets... but Duke, who is supposed to be Special Forces, didn't get a beret. Hawk doesn't get one either. And don't get me started about how Stalker, Flint, and Beach-Head all have the wrong color berets. I'd be excited to see Falcon or Dial-Tone if they wanted to give us Joes with berets.

I do think he is the best looking Joe (Heavy machine gunner preference) and I do own them ALL except Snake Eyes (waiting for the better version)...I am just saying there is nothing bland about RNR at all....the beret is optional (they give many display choices) My RNR will never wear the Beret anyways,so why complain when you dont have to use it? He comes with his Helmet aswell

Flint's supposed to be Army Special Forces - the famous "Green Berets"
Just as Stalker was listed as a "Ranger" - in the 80's, the Rangers wore black berets.

Now, I realize that these are the iconic toys of our childhood, etc.
However, Sideshow stated from the begining that they wanted to give these classic characters an updated look... they get modern guns, knives, and load bearing equipment. They get modern boots and gloves. They get modern backpacks, etc. All their stuff gets updated, and made more realistic.

So why can't they fix the beret colors?
Hasbro even gave Flint a green beret in several of the later editions, including the 12" versions.

So no argument about the classic colors of the berets. My argument is that they were wrong to begin with and there's room for improvement in a line of toys that has specifically stated they wanted to update these characters.

I can certainly understand that a lot of fans/customers would want the more toy-iconic look, and that those of us who want a more realistic look want more military-accurate berets. It doesn't seem like that big of a deal to have included extra berets. I've ordered some extra, military accurate berets made out of fabric from a dealer on Ebay. They're a pretty great substitute for my Flint, Beach-Head and Stalker, and I got one for Duke too. It works for me, and I really like having fabric/felt berets instead of plastic.

I agree,you do have a right to complain,but the Beret isn't a big deal because he already comes with TONS of accessories and his traditional gear and there are so many display options..if we didn't get his Helmet,then I would be complaining.

I think all the Joes look Great and there really isn't a "bad" One.I know Sideshow has Destro scheduled for a Reveal soon and Snowjob is in development...I am pretty much getting them ALL over the long period of time of how these get released.

I'm just happy we got Rock 'n' Roll...nobody saw him coming and I love Sideshow's interpretation. Plus its another Joe for the lineup, with more to come. I could care less about the beret color - just like the fact they included one to begin with and I can display him with Dusty, Stalker, Flint, and Beachhead each with it on. But I can understand "true" military types getting all fussy over it and how certain units use specific colors or how it should be "shaved" and not "fuzzy". Hey, it's G.I. Joe, with Sideshow's realistic twist on our beloved franchise not a figure based on actual U.S. military units.

Can't wait to see what else comes out next year...I know Torpedo, Wet-Suit, Snow Job, Low-Light, Spirit...even some Cobras like Major Bludd, Scrap Iron or a Crimson Guard would be appreciated. Bring on the ladies like Scarlett, Lady Jaye, and Baroness as well. It would be interesting to see them do the SS treatment on one of them. AND give them a beret...a rasberry beret...LOL

I was pleasantly surprised with the announcement of Rock 'n' Roll, expecting only Zartan during SDCC. Love the Sideshow interpretation of him, and the exclusive "bandana" version is essential. He'll look great along side Stalker, Duke, Beachhead and Hawk.

Since I'm late in the game here, I am on waitlist for the exclusive RnR as well as the exclusive Zartan. I also preordered their regular ones just in case.

I wasn't going to get Zartan since I was looking for realistic-military type Joes, but after getting a few of these in hand and enjoying the Ninja Viper, I had to pull the trigger on Zartan.

Happy to see Zartan is coming, Rock & Roll looks good, but i would have rather seen Roadblock or Gung Ho, but never mind all are welcome.

Have there been any further rumblings about when to expect Zartan? I thought it might be Nov, but now their site says 1st quarter 2012. So maybe March if it isn't delayed.
