Looks like it fits with the 12 inch figs from ROSS.

These need to go down in price.

(on a side note, my buddy is doing some stop motion animation vids and the 12 inch guys almost look real in it compared to him using the smaller 3 3/4 guys)

(on a side note to the side note, I just realized I said a buddy is doing a video with 12 inch guys.....)

Yeah, I opted not for the early arrival cuz I had to wait for a paycheque.

You got the Exclusive (I ordered two of those and one regular) but I don't see the sweater in the package…?

I not a fan of the sculpted berets (Flint, Beachhead) and definitely not the flocked ones (Dusty, Stalker) especially bcuz with a little tweaking I got the rolled up one with Beachhead to look pretty damned nice. I may just have to make some for the rest of the crew.

The commando sweater was placed behind the figure. It’s hard to see in these pics because of the glare from the plastic. It even brought a sheet with instructions on how to properly put the sweater on.

I actually like the flocked berets. I’m hoping Sideshow makes a flocked version of the red and the black berets for Beachhead and Flint. I would like to see pics of what you did with the rolled up beret.

Hi guys,

This is my first post, and merely an observation from an old spec ops guy.

My gripe with the beret on this cat is twofold.

First- We all used to shave our berets down so that they didn't pick up lint, and looked a little more sleek. Every soldier at Bragg, and so on that wears a beret does this along with molding their beret. Please disregard if you're a service member that knows this. I do not mean to sound like a know it all, or be condescending.

Secondly- Rangers don't wear green berets... Or, at least in my day they didn't. That's spec forces... And only spec forces.

Now, I don't know the new regime, and I know that army across the board got black berets which was not cool towards guys that busted their ass for their tab.

Also, I do remember that Stalker had a green beret from the get-go. Maybe Sideshow is just honoring the mistake.

Aside from all the above, not a fan of the guys mustache... I always remembered more of a Clark Gable cut.

Anyway, I love this forum and all of the cats that post some very entertaining posts.

Hope you all have a nice weekend.

Do you own any of the sideshow joes? because i find this post a little silly.

Hand painted, Superior stitching, AMAZING accessories?

you're Not going to get that from a 30$ hasbro toy, or a "big-lots" special.

Hell, the Weapon sets that you used to be able to get at toys R us that were close in detail to what sideshow gives you were 12-10 $ alone, and that was just for 3 guns.

is he a LITTLE overpriced? yes. by at most 30$. But, weak American economy, coupled with a limited release as opposed to a mass market will drive the price up.
think of it this way. there are only 500 of the exclusive version, and somewhere in the neighborhood of 5000 of the regular in the entire world.

compared to hundreds of thousands to in some cases millions of units that hasbro makes. this WILL affect the price.

Expecting to find something like this in the 30$ range is like expecting that Gas will go back down to less than a dollar a gallon.

Good post. I was thinking this myself. Not that I'm any kind of spec ops guy, but I am in the Canadian military and we do this also, which is why I think the flocked look (like on Dusty) is alright, but unnecessary, as it's probably overscale, considering how smooth berets can get when they're shaved down as you say.

Question though - since everyone in the US Army now gets a beret, do they all shave it down, or does this vary by unit?

I agree they look like they come from ROSS... untill you actually get one in your hand.

Agreed. Well, depends on the pics, anyway. No offense to the original poster, but professional photography (e.g. on Sideshow's site) really make these figures look awesome.

Anyone who thinks these are the same as $30 mass retail 12" figures has either never seen these in hand, never seen good pics, or else just fooling himself so that he feels better about the fact that he can't afford them...

Show me a $30 12" figure that is equal in looks and quality to the Sideshow Stalker.

Here is a recent Hasbro 12" GIJoe for $20. Other than a decent looking dog, it's laughable.

Now that is one really boring, generic looking soldier figure. If it didn't say "Stalker" on the box nobody would ever know who it's supposed to be. You guys really got ripped on this one.

But on the bright side, Transformers fans got a pretty cool 12" Epps figure.

When I've been in the airports, and seen soldiers walking around with berets, they are still shaved. They look like ass when they aren't, no soldier with an ounce of 'know' will wear one around. And I can guarantee no NCOIC will let his guys be seen walking around with a fuzzy. If they do…. Well, they will look like sideshow stalker. We always called the guys that wore them unshaped and unshaved 'pizza men.'

I think Dennis Quaid's was unshaped in the movie too. There's a great example of pizza man right there. ;)

There was one other thing too… The jungle boots that Stalker is wearing in this likeness haven't been authorized since the 80s. The straight black ones with the speed laces I think are still good to go, but not these. Maybe they were trying to keep him Viet Nam era, or something going back to when Snake Eyes and Stalker and Storm Shadow were in Nam?

I'm just a little shocked because Sideshow are usually scarily up to date on even TA-50, and all that shit down to the smallest scale. Eh, it's forgivable.

The detail and quality of his BDUs and patches are obviously way beyond the 12" retail figures. I continue to resist the urge to collect Sideshow figures. Must ... resist.... the ... plastic...

And GWC the 4th - You held out for over two years to make your first post. That is some major restraint. Interesting input you have.

taste is very subjective and you are more than intitled to your opinion. Well Dorian just backed me up by saying he found a Cobra Trooper for $30, but I'm sure he meant used (or previously owned).

Dragon seems to make figures that look just as good, yet most of theirs are at least half of what Sideshow charges. I'm just saying that Sideshow seems to charge as much as they do simply because people will pay it. For me to justify paying over $100 for a figure, it would have to be above and beyond anything else that any other company is making. And this just isn't. For that kind of money I'd want flocked hair on it. And those gloves look awful. Couldn't they have painted them a different color than his skin? Speaking of which, remember the "Big Jim" figures from the 70's? They had skin to cover the joints. Why isn't that possible today on figures they charge over $100 for?

Likely only 1,500 regular Stalker's were made plus 500 Ex (not even really that close to 5,000) In fact,Snake eyes was the most produced Joe at 3,500 regular and 1,000 exclusive...then after that the numbers for each Joe got lower to much lower. (Dusty is only 1,900 pieces combined ex/reg) Firefly only 2,000 pieces combined

yeah the Cobra Trooper I got for $30 was actually used and the box was ripped to s#!t. I was previously into Dragon figures but onc I got a sideshow figure I was hooked the quality really is that good. I admit $130 plus shipping would be almost a deal breaker for me. I personally get these guys for $100-$110 and they only come out about 6-8 times a year and with regular Joes being so hard to find its not hard to swing it.

Funny I'm passing on the Ninja-Viper & Desert Trooper as well. $130+ is steep, but in most cases only a 1,000 to 2,000 collectors can own some of these figures. Some pics are o.k. & some are amazing, but there is nothing like having one of these figs in hand. I'm looking forward to Stalker & I have to say that Sideshow keeps getting better with every fig. I was really happy with the fact that Dusty has longer pants for a more natural look at the bottom. Any of you guys that think these are $30 Hasbro 12" quality really need to pick one of these up.

That might just be what bugs me most about it. Because Stalker is probably my all time favorite Joe. Either him or Gung Ho. So my expectations were probably a little too high for this figure. There's just something about the face that doesn't look right to me. He's kind of got that same "stink face" look that the Flint figure had. So if I can't pull the trigger on getting my favorite figure, it's unlikely that I'll ever get any of them. Though I'd be tempted if I ever saw a Storm Shadow or Firefly for cheap.

not feeling the Dusty and now Stalker portraits at all. Sideshow needs to get on the ball with better face sculpts before I quit the line. The Zartan looks promising....but they always give you an amazing "prototype", and the final is much lesser detail/quality.

Yeah its a slipperly slope, I picked up a Sideshow trooper on Amazon for $30 first to satisfy my curiosity and 12 sideshow figures and LOTS of money later I dont regret it.
Whenever my wife complains about the toys I always say "Look I dont drink, or do drugs, I never gamble, cheat, yell or hit you of all the things I could be doing buying a lot of toys isnt that bad."

If it wasn't for POC figures being in non-existence everywhere, this might have seriously affected my Joe budget. As long as they only release one figure a month and keep the cost below ($150 - Zartan excluded), I am in it for the long haul (at least until Joe 2 product hits next summer).
