its hard to say how this movie is going to be i think a lot of people have mixed emotions on it. one part of me says its going to suck because of the dorky costumes and the lame actors.
but another part of me says it might be cool because after all it is gijoe and you cant hate on it before youve seen it plus they have a year to do special effects and all that good stuff. so we will just have to wait and see!

i am 100% behind this thread, i don't think the movie will suck, but because i like a more 80's joe i don't think it will RULE either. it will be ok and mabee the sequel when there are a lot of cobras running around will RULE

Yes, this is the nice thread.
Like I said, I am pretty sure this movie will be ok.
I grew up on the cartoon and toys, and read the comics, and still collect the toys.
This is going to be a new take on the myth of G.I.Joe, stuff will be different, yet the same.

This movie is going to possibly bring out some emotion in me when it is fully completed and organized into a movie through editing and production in a year or so.
But it's only because I don't have the superhuman ability to see a few promo pictures and script leaks and suddenly know what the entire movie is going to be like.
You know, unlike some of the people here.
I wish I was as superhuman as they are.

You know we can talk trash all day about the movie but at the end of the day, all of us are going to go see it.
I am...give it a chance everybody!
Saboteur

I can't tell how it will be because it still has 14 months to go before it comes out, and because I haven't read the script, and because there's not a trailer...not even a teaser except the one that just aired in Europe..So who can say?
I'm choosing to be optimistic and say I "hope" and "believe" it will be a good flick!

Well, the original script with "Rex", was leaked well over a year ago, and was up for all to see on more than a few websites.
It was the original draft, and not wanting to ruin any surprises for myself, I stayed away from it.
I know I will be there opening day, it's going to be an awesome thing, to see this on the big screen.

Agreed. I don't think it will suck and like I said in the other thread, the movie is already a win in my book, cuz I get to see my favorite Joe-Snake Eyes, in a live action film. At first I was dissapointed that we weren't getting a live action movie of "80's ARAH", but then I realized movis that are adapted from other mediums, always have changes. So, I'm looking forward to the Joe movie.

I refused to read it too...Want it to be a surprise..good or bad...
And I am not kicking ya, at least you have optimism for a flick that still has 14 months of work to go before it is released.

At the end of the day, it is just a movie, and it's still well over a year before it is even released, so why even stress about stuff that may or may not be there.
Seriously, if it does good, then that is great.
If not, then I'm sure I will still dig it, and it's not going to make me stop collecting or watching the cartoon in any way.
Tis not life or death, it's a movie for us to enjoy.
No stress required.

Hama's declaration that they've 'nailed' the charaters bouys me more. I definately think the movie will be at least "okay".

That's what I've said from the start. If it bombs I'll still have my figures, cartoons and comics and will have lost NOTHING!
And I am a troll for defending the "Movie will rule" thread? Ouch....:(

This thread most likely has it right. Give up any notions that it will be anything like the cartoons or (original) comic, and accept that the characters will be somewhat loosely based on their filecards, but will not have any ARAH uniforms, and go enjoy what may be a decent action film. Otherwise, your just going to hate it. And personally, I'm sick of the predictions. I miss the days when people just waited for something to come out, and THEN they gave their opinion. And then they moved on with their lives. It's only a movie.

The only prediction I have is that it'll probably be pretty action packed! As far as expectations are concerned, that's it! Not to state the obvious here but this movie could go one of only three ways...It could suck, it could completely kick arss, or it could fall somewhere in the middle. Personally, I'm hoping they stay away from the sucking part! And I believe they CAN and WILL! The only question in my mind is just how good will it be.

Count me in on that. Well, I am a huge Sommersverse fan, and I do admit he's had his bummers ("Deep Rising")...
I would put this under great, but they have that cow Sienna Miller in it instead of someone good, thus it's under OK.

I read an interview with JJ Abrahms on Star Trek XI where he said there'll be no footage of his movie at a big "comic-con". He went on to say "Transformers 2" isn't going" and most importantly, "GI JOE isn't going". It didn't specifiy but I presume he meant SDCC??
Dammit, when are we gonna get some footage then???

Well, there's no footage being released yet, but Hasbro said there'd be some surprises...
I'm just hoping for a panel next year.

I too agree with this thread...
I was a naysayer about the Transformers movie until I sat in the theater. The scene when Bumblebee & Barricade fight, then Transform, launching into the car chase still gives me goose bumps and makes me cheer like a fan boy everytime I see it.
Let's give it a chance... I mean, c'mon, Ray Park as Snake Eyes and Dennis Quaid as Hawk are two perfect bits of casting!
And another thing it has going for it:
George Lucas is NOWHERE near it!

I will be there because I'm obsessed with GIJOE. No amount of "the script sucked", "the costumes and actors are whack," will stop me from checking it out. It will be okay for the fact that Snake Eyes will be running around kicking butt. It will not be a masterpiece but should be fun.

Lee Byung Hun is a good actor and I think he will do a good job as Storm Shadow. I saw him in a totally unrelated role and he pulled off acting quite well. I am also tired of all the whining and predictions when the damn thing isn't even out yet. If it turns out to suck then so be it, but at least we will know for sure when the thing comes out.
I don't think it will be the best movie of next year but it might be for the summer. I think the toy line will kick ass and think we will see classic stuff in the mix that most of the doubters think will be in the line. Being that this is a Hasbro line I wouldn't be surprised at all. What may make or break the movie is corniness. So long as we don't have a cliche laughable subplot like hackers catching onto mysterious code from outerspace and a plate of donuts, we should be okay. If Wayans can stay as far away from comedy as Tyrese did from singing in Transformers then maybe he will be okay as Ripcord.
I hope the action is not too over the top and I hope nothing corny is in the movie.

im just hoping that there will be actuall gi joe based vehicles from the cartoon and not gmc cars and trucks being advertised like in transformers. although tf was a great movie i was a bit disapointed in the way it was like a promotion for gm.

Well, seeing as how none of the other car companies wanted their cars in TF but GM, it's not really fair to say it was like one big promotion for them.
Though, technically, the cartoon series (tf and joe) were just long promotions for the toys.

Freed up a lot of money for visuals though, so for that I'm grateful!

While I don't think it'll be a huge blockbuster(though it could people wrong) I also don't think it'll be a flop either. Fans will be intrigued enough to go see it, I know I will. I'm pleased with some of the things of I've heard and I'll go if for nothing else but to see Snake-Eyes on the big screen.

No way will it be as big as TRANSFORMERS. That movie had the 'hook' of something we've never seen before (giant photo-realistic robots). GI JOE will just be, to the public at least, another fun explode-a-thon.

It'll be better than Indy 4.
That's not saying a lot, Indy 4 was terrible.
Given the screenshots that we've see so far. This will probably be viewed by the general public as a nerdy comic book movie in the same vein as X-Men. In fact, unless they start showing the GI Joe logo early on in the trailer, it might initially be mistaken for a sequel to X-Men.
If they had designed the Joes using modern military equipment and kept the "Real AMERICAN Hero" them, instead of turning it into a politically-correct, international force, then I think they would draw more mainstream support in the US. Which was always the prime market for GI Joe. In fact, I think losing the America-based theme might cause more annoyance and backlash among US citizens and will likely doom this movie from the get go.
I'm still going to wait until the movie comes out to say if it's good or bad. I'm pleased with the fact hasbro's finally making a live action movie. I can tell you the movie is looking on the up side for me. The only part I'm nervous about is the costume choice. It looks great on a figure, but on a real person I would have stuck with real military gear. Either way It will at least be watch able and I can't wait to see it.

On youtube i was looking up stuff for the military future combat system, which they seem to have based the suit on in the new movie. With more refinement of this tech i can see the Joes doing what is report to be done in the film
