Death Race 2000 Remake

Has anybody seen heard of this yet? I didn't know they were remaking this. God, I hope there's Joe-sized toy line. These vehicles are SWEET.

First "The Day the Earth Stood Still" and now a "Death Race 2000" remake?
It's been a bad night for fans of cult movies... I can just see it now: Movie tie-in action figures and DR2000 video game.

I heard about this like 7 months ago. Trailer is new though. Statham is decent, but hasn't had a major superstar making role yet, and this will not be it. Paul W.S Anderson is as shitty a director, if not shittier than Brett Ratner.

I'm disappointed because the original was a brutal "Wacky Races". Why oh why couldn't the filmmakers keep that? I'm disappointed "Terror Train" (Now called "Train") decided to ditch the New Year's masquerade in favor of athletes in Europe being stalked by a serial killer on a train.

Some need changes ("Phantom of the Paradise" for example, and I hope that since Brian DePalma's writing the remake, he'll incorporate more of the original story than making it more like "Faust" and at least know a little about today's youth culture)....others don't.

I saw the orginal for the first time on tv just a few days ago...
I think a re-make is a bad idea. But the vehicles look awesome, so toys might be pretty cool.
