Finally the ROADBLOCK episode!

What did you think of it?

What did I think of it? well...that was one fun episode! Good conflict and heartfelt interaction between RB and HD...Bludd must always be in badass mode, I'm loving that character...Baroness in her "power suit" again. Yes.

Can't see it till I get home. How did bludd look?

Interestingly, he did not have an eyepatch, but his face was scarred (not Scrap Iron scarred, but still...) and the eye was discolored. Oh, and he had one of those Aussie hats.

With all of that crocodile action going on, I really expected to see Croc Master pop up out of the swamp. Kinda surprised he didn't.

Pretty good, I thought. He had the scar and a...ummm....hat. I don't know how to describe it. It was an "Australian Outback" hat, lol. He also had his right arm bitten/damaged by a crocodile. That's consistent with the original figure, right?

I thought this was a really good episode. The interaction between Roadblock and Heavy Duty was cool, and Major Bludd is a great character, IMO.

Those Cobra swamp vehicles were cool also. Water Moccasin, perhaps? It didn't really bear any resemblance though...

Return of Bludd was nice ...so was seeing Flint and LJ. The conflict between Roadblock and Heavy Duty was great too. Great episode and anytime the Baroness is in it is a plus .

Ditto on waiting for the Croc Master to show up but didn't ... but it was nice change of scenery that the previous environments the Joes have been in.

True, I think they've been doing a good job at varying up the environments to give a good balance. I think they've also done a good job at balancing out the characters. I mean, as awesome as Bludd, or Zartan or Destro are, if they were in every other episode, they might begin to get a bit wearisome and stale.

Now, the fact that the Baroness has probably been in most episodes so far, and is still a pleasure to see almost anytime she is on screen, must testify to her being an extra-awesome character.

Anyway, I was super thrilled to see Bludd again. SUCH an improvement over ARAH Bludd. And the dude rolls without any backup. Tough tough dude.

Holy crap! That was fantastic! Heavy duty was great. Love the interaction between hd and rb. Major bludd is just friggin badass, and I never really cared for him in the arah days. Liked the blind looking eye and then his arm getting bitten off by a gator!! Wow. He did say I hope you choke on it so I assume it's gone, and from the baroness's expression. The cobra boats were very sleek and quite cool. I gotta say I really wish this whole movie thing would have just waited another year so maybe we could have gotten more amazing toys from this series and maybe more episodes. It has really picked up and it's really gonna be painful to see it go. They have got to make a major bludd figure with a detachable arm.lol.

^I'd love to see Cobra fit Bludd with a state of the art bionic arm. I love how tough that dude is. Only thing lacking this episode was another Bludd/SE brawl. Sure, Bludd would still have gotten beat, but I love seeing that guy simply survive.

I don't care so much about getting Bludd as a single carded figure, I really want him as a driver of that badass car of his. Tell me those two combined wouldn't sell!

I like how they developed Major Bludd and his physical deformities.

Seeing him getting his armed ripped off was cool

To be fair, before the hiatus was announced, there were often 25 - 30 page threads of discussion. Once the "hiatus" was announced, conversation died way down because people didn't want to invest in what was essentially a "dead" series.

The hiatus created the lack of discussion, not vice versa.

Yeah, I've noticed that. As for me, I've just been doing what I've always done with the series. I see an enjoyable episode, and I acknowledge it as such--same with a bad episode.

Besides, who is to say that Renegades will not influence, directly or indirectly, future Joe media? From story, to character designs, whatever. I don't necessarily see "hiatus" as meaning "its all over, this never happened, forget everything you saw in this series". Maybe that's naive, but that's how I feel.

Yeah, definitely the best "assigning-a-code-name" scenario yet, I'd say.

Something about that last scene at the Grandma's house reminded me of a scene that I vaguely remember from ARAH, when Gung-Ho reunited with his family in the swamp. I remember that being much more corn-ball though--like a bunch of rambunctious, heavily stereotyped Cajuns in some completely ridiculous situation.

It was awesome to see both RB and HD wielding their heavy weapons side by side and tearing up those Cobra swamp craft. God, the vehicles were great in this. Such a HUGE pity that we are unlikely to see most (well, any) of them in toy form.

MB loves his grenade launcher. I love it any time that guy talks.

Great episode! Really like Heavy Duty on Falcon(is he still on the team even tho he didn't bring in Road Block?).
I would like them to make that boat Baroness had, I think it would be a cool vehicle. I thought it was gone be Croc Master on the boat especially after see the giant crocodile.(missed opportunity)

I just don't like the Ripcord viper/man thing, like Ripcord's character just don't like the viper part of this show. Didn't care much for Major Bludd's hat either, looked more like Gnawgahyde then Major Bludd(I want the eye patch and fast!)

One of the best episodes, lots of action! New character introduction! Cool vehicles! Returning villains!

I enjoyed the episode...but I usually do anyway...I was suprised to see Bludd lose his arm to the gator...that could be the most violent thing we've see aside from Resolute.

To be honest I've questioned Hasbro's handling of Renegades since day one...I mean no toy to support the show almost sounds like they didn't want to make a commitment any way.

And then the line about them not being able to make more cartoon while concentrating on the film just reaked of crap considering Prime was being made at the exact time DOTM was being made.

Ahhhh, yes! I didn't put 2 and 2 together there. That's pretty graphic for a HUB cartoon!

I'm pretty bummed about Renegades ending. I could give a crap about that weak-ass (and highly disappointing) TF: Prime cartoon, but I'll definitely miss Renegades.

That may have some validity to it.
However, there was a lot of excitement behind Renegades before it came out. Most people (myself included) were optimistic at first and gave it a chance. After 8-10 episodes, most people realized what we were getting and just lost interest. I do my best and try to watch it with my son, but it's just not that good. Sorry.

Yes the hiatus killed alot of peoples enjoyment in the show. I understand being pissed and thinking well screw this show, but in reality you should just treat it as a big origins movie. I mean it looks like it's gonna wrap up in a sense with the joes innocent and cobra coming out if you will. I mean we've been given such crap as the valor vs venom movie that at least this serves as at great origins story for both cobra and gi Joe. Those who jumped ship are the ones who truly miss out .

Here is the thing: if you go back to the early pages, I and other argued it was developing too slowly, introducing too many characters and developing back stories without moving forward the central story. Now with the hiatus hanging over its head, things are wrapping up very quickly. Resolute quickly. DDP WW3 quickly. They have developed an elaborate universe, creating motives and identities for characters - and then it will be over. I get why people are quitting, as it is just frustrating to invest in a show only to not get much of a payoff. People said the same thing about IDW and it wrapped up a little quick too. The writers should have included clues to Cobras motives each week - or more often than they did - to keep people on track, particularly if they knew they had to wrap up the story in one season.

I don't post much on the boards due to all the negative bs, anyway, the last two Renegades eps were awesome! I love this series the good and the bad. The hiatus is a good way to revamp the show from being on the run to kick butt Joes.
I wonder if Roadblock will get the same shirt/ vest combo or a camo tank/ vest next ep? This ep was a good way of getting rid of his hoodie just like Bludd's arm.
I want Renegades figures now! I want All characters including a bioviper with removeable Ripcord. Yeah I said it. I WANT A BIOVIPER with a removeable RIPCORD!

Just curious, but would people feel the same if Hasbro had product out when the show started or now even? With no show or product on store shelves to keep Renegades in the minds of G.I. Joe fans and newcomers alike I have to wonder if this is a factor to some of the anger going around.
The break didn't bother me much, as I've gotten used to TV shows having split seasons—sure they suck, but what are you going to do?

My beef with G.I. Joe would be its A-Team feel. I'm sorry, but I don't think this is G.I. Joe, America's highly trained special missions’ force. Yeah, I know this isn't ARAH, but that is what G.I. Joe represented, the best of the best.

I know this new version is shaping these characters into those people, but I liked it when they were already those people from the beginning.

Snake-Eye's freaking sword is annoying the hell out of me in this incarnation of Joe. It’s funny how I wanted to see it more when I was a kid 'cause all I want now is for Renegades to make it stop.

Still, I must admit: this show has made a fan out of me. I didn't think much of it when it started, but little by little (mostly Tunnel Rat), I've been won over each new story.

Hi kids!
Welcome to the Uncle Bobo show!
Are you ready to sing?
Come on, let's go!
Billy and his family went on a holiday
They went down to Florida to laugh and dance and play
Bill went in for a swim, he didn't see the harm
But when he came back out again, he was short an arm
'Cause Rippy the Gator went chomp, chomp, chomp!
Rippy the Gator went chomp, chomp, chomp!
Passing the time by ending children's lives
Down in the bottom of the swamp, swamp, swamp!
Billy and his father went out to play some catch
But Billy missed the pass because his arm was unattached
The ball flew past his shoulder and it rolled into the swamp
When he went wading after it his leg became a stump
'Cause Rippy the Gator went chomp, chomp, chomp!
Rippy the Gator went chomp, chomp, chomp!
Passing the time by ending children's lives
Down in the bottom of the swamp, swamp, swamp!
Billy and his father joined a three-legged race
They were tearing up the field, no one could keep the pace
But Billy tripped and did a flip and landed in the muck
He was running out of limbs and also out of luck
'Cause Rippy the Gator went chomp, chomp, chomp!
Rippy the Gator went chomp, chomp, chomp!
Passing the time by ending children's lives
Down in the bottom of the swamp, swamp, swamp!
Billy was all dirty, he really had to wash
But he couldn't use a towel 'cause his limbs had been gnawed off
He went into the water to get all clean and bright
But when his bath was finished he was only half his height
'Cause Rippy the Gator went chomp, chomp, chomp!
Rippy the Gator went chomp, chomp, chomp!
Passing the time by ending children's lives
Down in the bottom of the swamp, swamp, swamp!
Billy's father rolled his wheelchair up upon a hill
He wanted to put Bill where he would not get killed
But he left him on a slope, and into the swamp he rolled
They dragged out his head but there was nothing left below
'Cause Rippy the Gator went chomp, chomp, chomp!
Rippy the Gator went chomp, chomp, chomp!
Passing the time by ending children's lives
Down in the bottom of the swamp, swamp, swamp!
Passing the time by ending children's lives
Down in the bottom of the swamp, swamp, swamp!

so if Crystal Ball is the closest thing cobra has to a shrink I imagine the conversation going something like this:

Bludd: "HR says I gotta come talk to you mate about possible PTSD."

CB: "I see in your future a robotic arm."

Bludd: "oh great and i bet i won't be able to bend it at the elbow.
Im sufferin' from Cap'n Hook syndrome here!"

CB: "tell me how you feel"

Bludd: "I feel like this is a bloody waste of time"

CB " I see a fall in your future"

Bludd: "ludicrous! you quack I am outta here you bloody dingo!"

Bludd reaches for the door but due to poor depth perception and phantom arm syndrome he thinks he twists the knob with his right hand and walks straight into the door and staggers backwards and lands right on his bum.

CB: "I will see you Tuesday."

so did snake eyes say something? I watched the youtube(several times) and it sounded like he may have made a sound before spinning his sword to scare the croc but I wouldn't count on it.

The Baroness has some nice vehicles at her disposal,we got an updated hydro sled and a scaled down moray hydrofoil this episode.

I liked the Tuskegee airman reference, since there has been a 12 inch version of a Tuskegee I thought that was pretty cool. Also the homage to the movie "The Defiant Ones" was nice too, two people handcuffed together who have to work as a team to solve their problems. Oddly enough there was an A team episode with BA and Murdock cuffed together (Breakout), yet another A team plot used by Renegades.
I dont think anything about Renegades is being rushed due to the H word in an attempt to wrap things up. They said several times they had all five years planned out in advance. I believe everything is on schedule, as it was meant to be. If there is a cliffhanger ending to this season however, that could be disappointing.

I watched the episode when I got in this morning at about 4:30. I liked it overall. It appeared to me that Bludd lost his right arm entirely, but I guess we'll find out (hopefully). Maybe they'll surprise us all and release a mini-series that picks up on where Renegades leaves off, and helps bridge the gap until the next toon series. How awesome would that be? 4 or 5 episodes is all I'm asking for.

Maybe it could involve the first big, official mission that the newly formed Joe Force embarks on (assuming Renegades ends with the formation of GI Joe).

Poor Major Bludd, I think he needs a new profession, if he keeps fighting the joes there isn't going to be much left of him. 2 weeks in a row of great episodes!

It's too bad this show is going on hiatus, as it is starting to build up nicely and people are starting to figure out that Cobra is evil, which would have made for a good season 2.

This is actually a really smart idea. A 5 parter like the original 5 parters for ARAH. That would be smart to keep the continuity going, and wouldn't cost them too much either.

I think several tankers just don't comment. Bet most still watch it too. My thing is this...so many people complain and panic about GI Joe not continuing, so why do we complain about stuff being put out? Why not support everything GI Joe and it will continue. We don't have to like everything but at least support GI Joe efforts.
We should all be used to our shows taking a mid season break, almost all shows do that now. Yes hasbro is behind on some things but we know that. Let's support what we can to keep GI joes alive period. Yo Joe.

I agree! I mean Hasbro has done a phenomenal job since 2007 putting out some of the bet Joe toys ever!

I also can get behind Resolute and Renegades as they are both great representations of joe! I like Renegades better but respect the resolute effort!

They even made a video game which was okay, but hopefully it leads to more when the second movie comes out. In fact a renegades style video game or a XIII style Gi Joe game would be great.

I agree there are too many people complaining about Gi joe. There are bigger things to complain about.

Though, try as I might, I can't get behind GI joe ROC! I tried but can't do it. Even though I liked Destro, SE and SS portrayals in the movie.

Wow. This show has made me a fan of two Joes I previously could have cared less about...Airtight and Heavy Duty. HD was great. My only complaint is that Flint is just now adding a named Joe to his team (unless you count Wild Bill). I think it would have been more fun to have built a 4-5 person team of named Joes for Flint's "Falcons" about 10 episodes ago. Instead of some of the almost throwaway episodes the Joes could have bounced back and forth fighting against Cobra and the Falcons. Just my two cents. Would have loved to have seen Spirit, Lowlight, or Beachhead join Flint's team.

I've really been wondering what will happen with this, now that Clem, the show's lead artist and character designer, is no longer with us.

I absolutely want them to continue the story and use the universe they have developed so well in Renegades for the next animated series.

I absolutely want them to retain the character designs of Renegades, especially after seeing how the Renegades figures based on those designs turned out. They translate beautifully, from stylized to realistic.

Now, when it comes to the art style itself, I think I would be okay if it changed somewhat, perhaps to reflect the style of a new lead artist. But I think that Clem's essential designs should be retained. Clearly they can be translated into many different styles (as demonstrated by the sculptors, with the figures).

edhellman
06-26-2011, 10:43 PM
actually, i would hope they redesign all the characters but keep clem's style. I would want to show the joes a few years from now reflecting looks based on their other uniforms that were shown with various toys.

Rockshield

I haven't seen anyone mention this yet so I'll say it..... no Ray Park "voicing" Snake Eyes. He never made sound in the episode and no mention was made of neither character or actor in the credits.

I personally thought it was turning out to be one of the best episodes in the season... until the whole "Heavy Poopy" explanation at the end. In all seriousness, most of the attempts by the writers to explain a story behind the nickames have been serious duds... although Ripcords was still the worst...

edhellman
06-26-2011, 10:57 PM
i asked about the voice a few times but got no reply.... i guess we have to wait to see if he voices him in future episodes.... maybe it was a joke the producers were playing by saying he voiced a mute character? I figure we are guaranteed an explanation of how he got scarred so we will get another flashback soon..

Well, I would certainly like to see the designs evolve from where they are in Renegades, perhaps incorporating elements from uniforms the characters had in past incarnations.

However, these are some of the characters whose designs I would definitely want to see carried forward:

Scarlett
Destro (I love his new mask)
Mindbender (I love that he's a young arrogant digital age douche. A very modern take on the character.)
Baroness
Major Bludd
Zartan
HD (I thought his green outfit looked badass)
Jinx

These are some designs that I wouldn't mind seeing changed:

RB
TR
Duke
CC (though the half-mask grew on me, I'm not in love with the design)
Flint (he's not bad, but I wouldn't miss his design too much)
LJ (I like the t-shirt, but I loved the ARAH outfit, so if it morphed into this, that would be cool).
Firefly (you just can't top the ARAH design. I'd like to see his outfit changed back towards this).

Great episode! Still hating the ripcord/bioviper. they need to either kill him or cure him.

Has anyone noticed that snake eyes never gets invited to eat?
Does he at least get a doggy bag? dude must be starving!

Loved everything about this episode. It's a shame Tunnel Rat's episode didn't get quite the same treatment.

I haven't seen anyone mention this yet so I'll say it..... no Ray Park "voicing" Snake Eyes. He never made sound in the episode and no mention was made of neither character or actor in the credits.

well since i started the whole ray park voice thing when I stumbled on that find. (which I didnt say it was a fact just that IMDB had it on their site)
I am glad someone checked the credits, since the person who puts it up on youtube every week inconveniently always cuts them off. I like to see the credits because sometimes the guest stars are pretty interesting. like when Danica McKellar was on there, or the original voice of SS Keone Young as the hard master etc.

I think Blood needs to leave the Joes alone. Every time he tries to take them on he ends up losing somthing. First it was his eye now it's his arm.Over all great episode. And I also loved that we finally get to see RB and HD together. And not just Hasbro trying to make them into one person like the comic have done lately.

Since most signs seem to point to possible new Joe media/cartoon being Joe 2 movie based.

I like to see renegades season 2 (Insert new name here) continue as a film/renegades mix. Since rarely do movie cartoons follow the would be storylines This way they could have the best of both worlds. renegades continues with Hasbro still supporting the main Joe line.

Well so far Flint's Falcons include Lady Jaye, Heavy Duty, Wild Bill, and Lift Ticket, and that's just the one's we've been introduced to. When this week's episode opened with Flint's team in target practice, I was thinking any of those characters could be once and future Joes.

Great episode! Still hating the ripcord/bioviper. they need to either kill him or cure him.

I agree about Ripcord. Making a super Joe bothers me to no end, but it does fit in with the story line completely.

As to Snake Eye's eating habits, good observation. I hadn't noticd it before, although there's an obvious answer. With is face so messed up, who would want to have him sitting at the table and eating with you? It could also be that he can't eat normally depending on the extent of his damaged face.

This was an awesome episode. I honestly don't understand the haters with regard to Renegades. If you don't like it, don't watch it...but there are plenty of people (like me) who do and who think it's an awesome reboot. I'll stay off my Cobra-La Sucks pedestal if you stay off your Renegades Bites one. Live and let live.

And Heavy Doodie? Priceless.

It's a well done cartoon. It does have a few faults, but in the scheme of today's action cartoons it is by no means bad. People are going to hate on any and all things Joe on this site which is ironic. I even think people do it just to troll and really enjoy alot of what they complain about. If they didn't why would they be on a Joe site.

To be fair, before the hiatus was announced, there were often 25 - 30 page threads of discussion. Once the "hiatus" was announced, conversation died way down because people didn't want to invest in what was essentially a "dead" series.

The hiatus created the lack of discussion, not vice versa. So true. Before the hiatus was announced, 30 pages in 4-5 days was the norm for an episode discussion. Now it seems the page count maxes out at about 10. It's disappointing that those who enjoyed the show decided to give up on it.

so many people complain and panic about GI Joe not continuing, so why do we complain about stuff being put out? Why not support everything GI Joe and it will continue. We don't have to like everything but at least support GI Joe efforts.#1 reason is money and that's probably followed by time. The average person can't buy every toy, read every comic and watch all Joe related media. Also, this isn't a charity why support something you don't care for. I'm not interested in a manga version of G.I.Joe so I didn't buy IDW's or DDP's manga books.

Anyway, excellent episode. I'm really going to miss this series.

Yeah, I'm thinking when it comes to the voice actors, whoever is contributing that info at IMDB is either just pulling a fast one, or truly clueless.

Heavy Duty was played by a guy named Keith Ferguson.

Keith Ferguson - IMDb (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1584992/)

Finally saw this ep. Major. Bludd was a Major. Badass. I really hope we get a figure of him and his weels in 2012. And I really hope he makes one more appearance before the finale though I'm not holding my breath. I'm also assuming he got his arm bitten off by that gator at the end. Nice to see a little of RB's origins too.

I'm hoping that pretty much all the Cobra characters make an appearance again in Revelations, for a final showdown with the Joes.

Also, I'd love to see many, if not all, of the cameo Joes (BBQ, Steeler, L&O, etc.) show up again to reinforce the main Joes. Couldn't Breaker get the word out to them, that the Joes need help?
