Thank you to all the customizers who entered. Everyone went above and beyond to make this contest something special. Thanks once again to Night Force Jazz for lending an ear and to Obi-Shinobi for keeping me humble. Special thanks to Asphalt, Galen, Miltos, Rascal!, and Tankster for the extra fighters.

Great job everyone!

Welcome to the Kumite Tournament. It’s been almost one year and once again fighters from around the world have assembled to test themselves in the grand arena of combat. As always, because of the deadly nature of these fights, no one will be allowed to witness any of the matches. As you wait outside these gates, you will be informed of the results of every battle for each round at the end of the day.

Here is the tournament bracket.

Before the tournament begins, the alternate matches will take place. Because of the possibility of injuries, if any fighter is unable to continue an alternate will take their place in future rounds.

Each Alternate match will take place in one of three randomly chosen arenas.

The Kumiting by Nirvana

Description:
X marks the spot where the world ends and the void begins.

Material Used:
Xbox Shell Top, Spray paint cap, .50 machine bubbles, Spray bottle caps, Hot Glue, TMNT figure arm, pair of Indy Jones arms and Joe DVD Skeleton arms

Construction Details:
Popped off the Xbox badge and removed the metal piece from the underside of the shell. Superglued the spray paint cap over the center and spray bottle caps on the back corners. Hot glue applied over pieces and then given a coat of Hammered grey. Silver spray paint over the rest of the bottle caps and placed as dishes and bowls superglued down. More hot glue, insert arm pieces, and then applied Clear Red, Clear Green, and Clear Blue over hot glue.

Notes of Special Interest:
Who hasn't wanted to use an old Xbox shell for something fun? Although the flowing liquid look is still my favorite part.

The Bottoms by Asphalt

Base Material: Oak Stump
Tools used: Chainsaw, wood chisel, Ax, Sand Blaster.
Paints/Coloring: Mahogony wood stain, random acrylic wash splatter, enhanced by natural weathering.
Dimensions:20WX10DX8H
I began with a solid oak stump next to my house and I used a chainsaw to cut out one side into an Amphitheater shape. I then used an axe and wood chissels to carve the backdrop, and ate into them a bit with my neighbors sand blaster. I wanted something like the stone spires of the American west. I colored the mostly white wood with a heavy coating of non-sealing wood stain, and then pain splatter washes.

Stormforge by Gunzlingr

Those that say there is no hell, have never had to fight with the stone circle of Stormforge. The sands of Stormforge has soaked up the blood of countless unfortunate combatants for millennia, and where the only prize for winning is your life and immortal soul. It is said that the spirits of the fallen haunt the combatants as the corpses of those who have tried to yield stare unblinking into their very being.

Stormforge is constructed from:
Cardboard
Sand
stone
glue
necklace chain
square dowels
Army of Darkness Deadites
Montezuma's skeleton

Accessories by:
Chronicles of Narnia
GI Joe
Army of Darkness
How to Tame your Dragon
Playmobil

I had planned to build a stone wall behind the diorama (which measures 16x17 inches), but decided against it due to the rules stating a blank background was needed. I measured it out, painted glue and added the sand. I built the gallows and collected rock to make the arena. I spent several days going through the kids' toy boxes in order to find the perfect set of accessories.

Earl, It's Nick. The beast that took my hand is here. Along with a lot of other beasties, some human, some not so much. The Tournament brackets have been posted, the creature calls itself Kragg. He is up against some old dude named Mongoosor. That boy needs to smack his mother for that one. I can't tell if my opponent is human or not. He calls himself "Croc King." Ruman has it he's been around longer than you have. You come across this joker before? Any tips on how to take down a crocodile man?

Here are the results for the alternate matches.

http://www.majhost.com/gallery/daremosdojo/Kumite-II/The-Tournament/Round-Brackets/Alternate-Matches/alternate_matches_results.png

Here are some highlights from the Alternate matches.

Blueberry vs Shackle – Blueberry, the 2 Time World karate Champion from Canada, would seem to be the easy pick for this fight. Steven “Shackle” Page spent his time honing his fighting skills while incarcerated for a crime he didn’t commit. He must have trained with Houdini, beating Blueberry with his hands tied behind his back.

RIGGS vs Kali – The Escrima Master was well prepared for this fight. An advocate for children and the poor, he still managed to find time to perfect his skills. All that is known about RIGGS is that he has fists of steel and is a heavy hitter. With his enhanced piston powered fists, he unleashed a volley of shots at Kali. Expertly defending against the onslaught, Kali seemed to be doing well. A few well placed shots were all Riggs needed to win when Kali slipped on the ooze spilling from the pipes of the Kumiting.

Kragg vs Mongoosor – The strangest contestant in the Kumite, Kragg is not human. Perhaps we will never know what he was. The creature was no match for the finest DNA found in Mongoosor, who vanquished the monster back to wherever it came from. I can still hear it screeching 'Ko, Bruh, La, La, La'.

Bushmaster vs Harbinger – Bushmaster was all business in this fight, never showing any emotion, not even pain. Harbinger was the opposite, flashy, trash talking, and laughing. He had a look of surprise when Bushmaster caught him with those knives. That moment of hesitation cost him the fight but fortunately not his life. Perhaps he better understands the spirits at Stormforge now.

I should explain how the matches are decided. Each custom is awarded points based upon the evaluations that are turned in by the entrants. The entrants pick their top 6 customs and rank them 1-6 with 1 being their top pick. They are not allowed to pick the custom(s) they entered. The top pick receives 6 points, pick #2 gets 5 points, pick #3 gets 4 points, etc. The custom that receives the most points will become the Kumite Champion.

The voting was real close this round. 7 of the customs missed the sweet 16 by 6 points or less. As you can see, we'll be crowning a new champ too. It also looks like there's already a few losing bets.

Honestly, fhersanke, I was slightly surprised to see Oriotto bounced out so quickly. When evaluating the fighters, I was very impressed by the amount of work completed on that figure and thought the paint apps were very, very good. I also really appreciated your color choices. Something about it though was lacking a certain... je ne sais quois.

Hopefully we will all see you again as I think your talents and skills only go up from here!

Here's the summary of today's battles.

TKO vs Hei Lao Hu – The first battle of the day! Black Tiger was completely focused for the fight. TKO seemed tentative, not sure what to do while he was pressed to defend. While Hu looked like the older fighter he was just as fast as TKO. Experience was the key to victory for the Black Tiger. When TKO lost his balance on one of the rocks, Hu made him pay with well placed strikes to the younger fighter's vital organs. In a matter of seconds TKO had been paralyzed, unable to continue his road to become champion. I was relieved to see the Black Tiger return the fighter to his former state after the match. This young fighter has much potential.

Paladin vs Bloodwulf – How do you fight someone with four arms? We're not sure yet.

Reaver vs Rudarius – Two of history's greatest warriors, a Viking and a Gladiator, gave a demonstration of what the battlefields of the past were like. Such raw power! This was the closest fight of the day. Stamina helped Rudarius gain the edge after Dreadnok Viking punched himself out later in the fight.

Jade vs Hikare Shinde – The beautiful Jade returns! She faced a deadly adversary in the form of Dead Light. He wasted no time in assuring his victory. With the use of smoke, the ninja blinded Jade. He was able to secure his blade to her throat and win by verbal submission.

Lady Grim vs Gin Winndu – Dark Wind had hoped to find a clue to his missing daughter at the tournament. He came up short in his quest when the Lady of the tournament swiftly severed his achilles tendons. unable to stand, Gin was forced to submit.

The Drifter vs Bakemono – The Drifter had no chance against the power of this mysterious ninja. before The Drifter even had a chance to set up his attack he was defeated. It happened so suddenly, I'm still not sure what he did.

Croc King vs Riposte – The king of Crocs showed how tough he was in this fight. Riposte slashed the reptilian fighter so much, I thought he would surely win. It turns out that Croc King enjoys the pain, it makes him fight better. When Riposte started to tire, Croc King took over the fight. Lucky for Nick, he only took his sword and not his life. I had hoped to see more of the one armed man in this competition.

El Conquistador vs Quetzalcoatl – this was an historical battle. Vasco was the quicker fighter but it was the agility of the Serpent God that would be the key to this battle. Using the rocks, Quetzalcoatl was able to stage an attack from above the helmeted warrior. In no time, Tlacelel had his back and smashed him into the ground. Stunned, the Spainard didn't have time to defend himself before he was picked up and thrown into the rock knocking him unconcious.

Gikan vs Dragon – Gikan was prepared to battle more than ever. Many fighters were thankful they didn't draw him in the first round because of his dreaded flying guillotine. Dragon used his snake and Kwan Dao to keep his foe at bay until he could disarm the Kumite veteran. Once disarmed, one kick was all Dragon needed to put the Samurai ninja out of the tournament.

Yago vs Euriga Oriotto – I don't recall ever seeing such a graceful and fluid fight. Euriga, while game, could not keep up with Yago's rythym. The Capoeira Master used his swinging legs to sweep the assassin off his feet and then put his opponent to sleep with a choke.

Ghost Tiger vs Purple hunt – This was a rematch from the first Kumite. Purple Hunt was a totally different fighter from whne we saw her last. She has shown some new skills that certainly came in handy while facing the Tiger's rage. There were a few times I thought Ghost Tiger had beaten the girl. But she was playing him and the Tiger eventually fell into her trap.

Ying bai vs Hrothmeir – The man of God has never looked better. Ying Bai was looking to follow his master and become the next Kumite Champion. Unfortuantely, his inexperience in the Kumite led to his loss. Hrothmeir was familiar with the arena and used his knowledge of the previous Kumite to his advantage. Taking his spear and jamming it into the rock, Hrothmeir flipped up and behind Ying Bai. The White Eagle did not react in time. Hrothmeir slammed the butt end of his weapon into the head of his opponent. Ying Bai's dream of becoming the Kumite Champion ended and a new dream began...

Wu Shi vs Xiao Hu – The People's Choice taking on the Reigning Kumite Champion, how wonderful!!! this was a fight I would have loved to see at the last Kumite. I think that while Wu Shi enjoyed his new title, Xiao Hu trained harder than ever. It was this hard work that earned him the victory.

Astig vs Hiro Tekuno – Perhaps Hiro should have heeded his father's warnings. Astig is a force of nature with those sticks. Now we know something about him.

Baldur vs Kunai – Kunai looked helpless against Baldur. He threw every blade he had at the beast but he kept coming. Words can't describe what Yamamoto must have felt. When Baldur grabbed the young man, we all knew the fight was over.

Graves vs Lotus – Graves had thought he would have an easier fight. He underestimated the female ninja as Lotus only needed a minute to put down her opponent. She did offer her services to help find his daughter.

http://img809.imageshack.us/img809/4207/round2bresults.png
My thoughts on today's matches.

Hei Lao Hu vs Bloodwulf – Is there anyone who can stop the 4 swords of Bloodwulf? Even a great master such as Black Tiger could not survive the round. Bloodwulf kept Hu up against the fire and was able to pin each one of the Black Tiger's limbs to the ground with his swords. With nowhere to go, the Black Tiger accepted defeat.

Hikari Shinde vs Rudarius – Rudarius has displayed the best defense of all the competitors up to this point. He was able to negate Hikari's smoke attack with his shield and even had Hikari rethinking his strategy. The crafty ninja used the shield to his advantage. Rudarius's obstrusted view kept him from seeing the sword attack towards his feet. Wincing in pain, he stumbled to the ground. Hikari pounced wounding the gladiator and ending the match.

Lady Grim vs Bakemono – This was an incredible display of flashing steel. The quiet Bakemono's prowess with a blade is unmatched thus far in the tournament. Lady Grim did everything she could to block or avoid his blades. The unflinching ninja pressed his attack and struck Vontessa in the midsection. Although not mortally wounded it was enough to take her out of the tournament.

Croc King vs Quetzalcoatl – Quetzalcoatl was the first to strike and was able to force the King into the fire. A howl was heard that sent shivers down my spine. Emerging from the flames, a newly focused Croc King surprised the Serpent God. I think he was actually in shock as he did nothing to stop the lizard's chain fist from smashing into his face. With the fight over, a slightly cooked Croc glared towards Bakemono.

Yago vs Dragon – Dragon used his ranged weapons to keep the Brazilian from getting close to him. Yago was finally managed to grab the Kwan Dao and use it against Dragon, throwing him in the process. Once Dragon hit the ground, Yago immediately went for the neck of his opponent to force a verbal submission.

Hrothmeir vs Purple Hunt – These two fighters knew what to expect in this round. This was a fast paced fight. Strike, parry, dodge, deflect, strike, block, over and over. it was quite the spectacle. Hrothmeir seemed nervous fighting the female. I think an internal conflict may have cost him the fight. Purple Hunt saw that he was distracted and immediately increased her attacks. A couple well placed strikes combined with her speed sealed the win for the attractive ninja.

Astig vs Xiao Hu – Xiao Hu has once again demonstrated his skills as an elite fighter. Astig was no match for the agile Shaolin. With a series of strikes, the monk incapacitated his opponent which ended the match.

Baldur vs Lotus – Baldur is a juggernaut! Without fear he charged at Lotus knocking her to the ground. Using every skill she posessed, Lotus got back to her feet just before Baldur's sword connected. She hadn't expected him to release his sword and grab her. faced with the choice of being paralyzed or yielding, Lotus decided to submit. I know she will return even stronger than ever.

We are down to the final 4!

http://www.majhost.com/gallery/daremosdojo/Kumite-II/The-Tournament/Round-Brackets/Round-3/round_3_results.png

Here are my thoughts on the fights today.

Hikari Shinde vs Bloodwulf – We finally have an answer to defeating a four armed swordsman! Bloodwulf was intent on punishing Hikari with a frontal assault. The ninja had expected this after watching his previous fights. Bloodwulf was the aggressor in this match. No one knew what would happen next. Bloodwulf spun his swords and advanced towards Hikari. At the last second, Hikari rolled away in a cloud of smoke. Bloodwulf could not see where his adversary disappeared to. It was too late when he realized the ninja was behind him. The ninja's blade pierced the son of destro and Bloodwulf's run to the top ended.

Croc King vs Bakemono – I was very excited for this match. Immortality was about to be tested! Croc King slowly advanced toward the quiet warrior. Bakemono would not engage the King. Angered, Croc King charged at the ninja, releasing his chain fistat Bakemono's head. Bakemono had been waiting for this moment. Just before the fist reached him he deflected the fist back at the Croc with his blades. The Croc King unexpectedly got clipped by his own weapon falling to the ground. I hope there is enough aspirin for when he awakes. Bakemono continues on.

Yago vs Purple Hunt – I think Purple Hunt has made many friends in this tournament. It was all business though when she faced Yago, gaining the upper ground early. Yago showed off some new skills, swinging, jumping, kicking off the poles. He looked at home in the arena. There wasn't much contact in this fight until the end. Both fighters were able to evade the other's attacks. Suddenly, Yago dropped off the pole. Purple Hunt went to where she saw him disappear. Yago swung around the pole, throwing all of his weight into Purple Hunt. Both fighters fell to the ground. Yago stood up and brushed himself off. purple Hunt did not move for quite some time. The match was over.

Baldur vs Xiao Hu – I would have thought Xiao Hu would have an advantage in this arena. I had assumed Baldur would take the fight to the monk but instead he waited. The Shaolin Master made his attack. Baldur did not move, the monk's strikes had no effect upon the juggernaut. Xiao Hu jumped from pole to pole in an amazing display of agility hitting the massive fighter from every angle. then just before the monk landed on near him, Baldur struck the pole. The Shaolin lost his footing and fell to the ground. Baldur dropped on top of Xiao Hu, crushing his hopes of becoming champion in this tournament.

WOW D, even though I'm out I am still loving this, so many great customs and too close to judge who is going to take it. My money is on Hikari but I would love to see Baldur win it since he was the fighter that defeated me. Then again Yago is all sorts of awesome and Bakemono is cooler than ice. Screw it I want them all to win.

Ahhh! I've not been paying attention. Damn! Hiro Tekuno was shut down, hard and fast!

This was fun. I'm sad I'm out of it, and double sad that my top pick is out of the fight, too. Maybe Xiao Hu (or maybe Hiro!) will get it next year. There is a next year, right? ;)

Hiro Tekuno, future heir of the Tekuno ninja clan and son of the Tekuno Master, returns home, shamed from his quick defeat at the hands of Astig, only to find his father waiting for him at the front gates of the Tekuno compound with open arms.

AWW! Is still a happy ending for Hiro. :P

These are the winners for today's matches

http://www.majhost.com/gallery/daremosdojo/Kumite-II/The-Tournament/Round-Brackets/Round-4/round_4_results.png
This is my account of the fights.

Hikari Shinde vs Bakemono – I could hardly wait for the match to begin. Bakemono has been flawless so far in the tournament. Hikari Shinde has managed to defeat all before him using his skills and the enviroment. This ninja battle could go either way. I have to say that this was the most incredible display of swordmanship in the tournament. Such beauty and precision! Neither fighter was making any gains and both were masters of balance. Hikari was ready to finish the quiet assassin. He reached for his smoke grenade and flung it towards his foe. Bakemono's eyes flashed and he immediately cut the grenade in two and in the same motion sliced Hikari in his mid section. Hikari dropped on one knee but did not fall. Bakemono stood above him as his opponent yielded.

Baldur vs Yago – As he looked at the giant before him, Yago knew his speed would not be enough to win this round. Baldur intended to absorb whatever Yago threw at him and use his power to overcome the Capoeria master. No movement was made for quite sometime. Finally Baldur's patience waned and he bolted towards his opponent. Yago moved effortlessly out of the juggernaut's path. I thought it was only a matter of time before Baldur caught his prey. Yago jumped from pole to pole like an acrobat. He was setting a trap. As Baldur's sword sliced inches away from Yago's head, the Brazilian made his move. Yago struck the pole knocking Baldur off. The giant splashed into the water. We all waited for him to surface. After what seemed like an eternity, the great Berserker emrged from the depths. yago had defeated the brute.

The Dojo by W.O.Leroy

Description:
This is the Arashikage ninja clan’s personal dojo, the clan has graciously allowed it to be used for the Kumite II this year. Many a ninja has been trained in this prestigious dojo that has stood as the pinnacle of ninja training. Martial artists from all over the world have made the arduous journey to train with the illustrious Arashikage Ninja Clan and now with the permission of the Grand Master the dojo will now be hosting the Kumite II.

Materials used:
Mdf sheet, craft sticks, balsa wood, styrene, paint, varnish and a foam mat.

Construction:
I started out by making the three main walls out of Mdf sheet, then I layered sheets of balsa wood on the floor and using my trusty Exacto blade carved lines into it to simulate hard wood floors. I then made the board walk parts using craft sticks, I wanted these to stand out a bit so after I painted them with Ember brown paint I gave them a couple of coats of high gloss varnish. The Japanese wall was by far the hardest and most time consuming part of this project. I constructed the entire frame out of balsa wood then painted it with the Ember brown paint and gave it a couple of coats of spray on Satin varnish. Lastly I glued on some cut down A4 printer paper to simulate the rice paper walls. I used various pieces of balsa wood to make the weapon racks and tables. And thanks to Daremo’s excellent tutorials I used styrene to scratch build some of the weapons that are in the racks. The mat I found at a garage sale, I painted it black and white. The windows were a last minute add on as I felt it needed a little something extra.

Notes of special interest:
The entire Dio can be pulled apart for storage and I even plan on stripping out all the ninja stuff and using the box to make different dio’s.

Very cool dojo! Your last minute windows does add a lot to the realism.

To add even more realism with some minimal work is to add some vertical elements like faux columns to the white walls to give the space a sense of height. Right now you have a lot of dominate horizontal elements and the fact that the wide angle shots are longer in length than height makes the space seem lower than it is actually.

Good work!

And the victor of the match is...

http://www.majhost.com/gallery/daremosdojo/Kumite-II/The-Tournament/Round-Brackets/Round-5/round_5_result.png
Here is what I witnessed.

Baldur vs Hikari Shinde – baldur was infuriated by the loss of his last fight. Before the match even started you could see the rage glowing in his eyes. Hikari was still recovering from the wounds received from bakemono. His last fight took a lot out him. Hikari would need to end the fight as quickly as possible.

The Dojo was like home to Hikari, having trained in that very place years ago. Could this be the advantage he so desperately needed? The juggernaut was the first to attack. Hikari dodged the assault, feeling out his opponent. After a few more blocks, the ninja made an attack of his own. As Baldur swung his massive sword at Hikari, the smaller warrior slipped under the mighty blade and then slashed upwards, disarming the giant. There was hope for the one called dead light.

As the ninja spun around, he sent his blade deep into the giant's torso. Baldur did not flinch, he grabbed the ninja and pulled him close. The crushing arms were too much for the wounded Hikari. As he let out a breath, the ninja signaled for release. Baldur let the proud warrior go and claimed his victory.

The Arena of the Void by Gunfighter77

Description: Arena of VOID: 2 will enter, only 1 will leave

Materials used: cardboard, newspaper, plaster of paris, silicone caulk, and hardpaper and glue.

Construction details:
Base is made of 20x20 foamcore - water is painted blue with an upper coating of silicone for water like sheen.
Cliffs are made of cardboard frame stuffed with newspaper and plastered and stained.
Bridges planks made from regular paper and superglue. Railings tied together using combination of twine and string.
Central rock and mini rocks are made of Plaster of paris.

Waterfall is made of silicone caulk.
Fighting platform made of layers of paper stiffened with glue.

Notes of special interest:
The fighting platform brick pattern was laboriously etched in to the hard paper to give it some depth and dimension, but I guess its kinda hard to distinguish from the pictures.
Last two images 5 and 6 might seem kinda blurry, but it should be pretty sharp. The whole diorama sits on a secondary base with holes perforated behind the waterfall and a fog machine attached to the secondary base to add some steam. Unfortunately, pictures were taken at 10:30 PM in my basement so lighting sucks and its hard to capture the mist. Too little and the camera can't pick it up, too much and then its more like fog than water mist.

Lastly in the water there are 4 shark shadows..

We have a new Champion!!!

http://www.majhost.com/gallery/daremosdojo/Kumite-II/The-Tournament/Round-Brackets/Round-6/round_6_result.png

Yago vs Bakemono – Everyone watched this fight with much anticipation. The last two undefeated warriors of the tournament were about to clash. Would Yago's speed and agility win this day or would Bakemono's exceptional skill with a blade bring him victory? The fighters took their spots in the Arena of the Void.

Both men were ready for anything. Yago kept his distance at first to avoid the ninja's blades. Bakemono kept up the attack, almost catching Yago several times. The Capoeira Master had a plan. As Yago avoided Bakemono's blades, he moved closer and closer to the edge of the platform. Bakemono then came at him.

Using a similar technique in an earlier round, Yago dropped off the platform. He swung up and around the ninja ready to deliver a winning combo. He hadn't expected the ninja to see the trap.

Bakemono turned around and leapt over Yago. Landing behind the Brazilian. The ninja kicked Yago in the back and he fell off the platform. Without hesitation, Bakemono reached for the falling warrior, catching his hand. Yago looked surprised and relieved at the same time.

As Bakemono pulled his defeated opponent up, Yago gave a smile and told him that he was lucky today. Bakemono nodded and both men left the arena to celebrate all the hard fought battles of the tournament...

This was an awesome week of Kumite! Thank you to Daremo for making this contest happen. It is always fun to see customs and just being part of this is an honor. Hopefully more will show up for this annual contest.
Congratulations to everyone that joined especially to Meeko! Awesome job as always!

Congratulations to Gunfighter77 and Leroy! Top notch job! The other guys that made dios did awesome jobs also! Dios are for gifted customizers! Kudos!!!

Man, this was great. Congratulations and compliments to everyone who participated. BIG thanks to Daremo for this tournament. I've been participating to several different kinds of customizing contests, but the Kumite I and II are the ones I looked forward to the most! I'm very curious for the ideas Daremo has for other similar tournaments he vaguely spoke about earlier. And ofcourse Kumite III.
Say D, can you post the complete voting list? Where everyone can see how many points/votes their custom(s) got? Although my two entries got beaten in resp. the first and the second round, I'm still curious for their total score.

Kumite III won't be until sometime next year, but a special edition Kumite is in the works for later this year (September?).

Obi-Shinobi brought up the idea to have all the customs sent to me so I could actually set up the fighters in an arena and take photos of the fights. It could be really cool for the tournament portion of the contest. You'd get your custom entry back after the contest. of course, but I'm not sure if there would be enough interest in customizers sending their entries directly to me for this to happen though.

If you guys have any suggestions for improvements or things you'd like to see in the contests, let me know.

hmmm, who knows. that might be an iffy deal. But if it did happen it would be really fricken cool.

just means I gotta get better at eliminating paint rub.

of course, if you DID have the entries sent to you, would you still have a diorama portion of the contest? One of the coolest thing about this Kumite, imo, was that there were some very nice submitted dios, two of which served as actual battle grounds for the tournament. I don't think it would be very feasible to have the dio makers send in their dios too.

First, congrats to Meeko for the win.
Second, as to suggestions for next time: probably not practical, but have real tournaments. Find an agreed upon RPG ruleset (probably d20, as it's open source), have everyone generate statistics, then, with Daremo as GM, battle it out. Lots of fun!
Third, thanks to Daremo for continung the fun. Onto next year!

My suggestion for the "bet" portion, I think it would be more interesting and engaging if it was set up like NCAA tournament style. Provide the initial starting bracket and then points allocated to winning predictions round 1 = 1 point, round 2 = 2 points...etc. In case of a tie, then it goes to a random raffle. Gives everyone an equal chance and not just based on luck.

I don't see submitting figures as a good idea. The cost and extra work for Daremo would be triple to what he as been doing now.

Submitted photo's should be taken on plain white background to make it easier to photoshop and isolate. You might even consider having them sent isolated on transparent backgrounds as gif files.

Also D, there are probably a bunch of people here that are talented in photoshop that would volunteer to assist with photoshop work.

I don't think any custom was "bad" its just that the competition level is that high. This was my third go at a custom(i got a long ways to improve)...and last year I got nuked in the first real round so, but its suppose to be FUN!...take the results with a grain of salt and practice practice practice and always do your best and the rewards will surely follow.

At this point, for Kumite III I think sending in your figure will be strictly voluntary. This way I can gage the interest and everyone can see what's possible for the tournament.

Dios won't needed to be sent in. I can just imagine all the problems that people would have sending them and what if something happens to the dio en route?

First, congrats to Meeko for the win.

While an RPG ruleset would be fun, the tournament would no longer be a custom contest but a contest with customs. The tournament shouldn't dictate who wins, that's the job of those who enter.

i would be fne with that D i can trust you hell i might just send you my next fighters just cause :D

My plan is working, lol.

I'll probably post them later this week. I have the photos, I just need to write everything out.

Hmmm...I like that idea. Interesting, engaging, and fun. Great idea, bro.

Yeah, using the plain white background for the photos helps me out a lot.

And for anyone whose fighter didn't perform up to their expectations, take a look at the first tournament. 3 customizers didn't get any votes and there were less entries. 2 of them returned to compete and improved greatly this time around (1 of them placed in the top 10!). Even the great Bakemono lost in the first one. But he came back better than ever and became champion. With 34 original character customs, the level of competition was very high and the quality of customs was unmatched in this contest.

While you're competing against others in the tournament, you're also competing against yourself. Use the tournament to see how well you've improved as a customizer and remember that really it's all about having fun. So, regroup, head back to the drawing board, and start preparing for the next battle.

Now where is that clue... (http://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-joe-customs-contests/123942-kumite-ii-new-blood-16.html#post2629194)

Well that is all sorts of awesome lol, Yago bait LMAO. I'm thinking the photo shop idea is pretty cool but maybe we can send in more photos. Like putting our fighters in more fighting posses so that they could maybe be photo shopped to look like they are really fighting. It doesn't have to be every move in the fight but maybe a couple of kicking and punching ones and a couple of them using their weapons and maybe even a couple of them reacting to a hit. Anyway I'm all good for what ever is decided, I live in Australia but I will gladly send my custom to D if that's how it will be.

Good idea leroy. I would also like the option of maybe 1 picture( in higher resolution) with the fighter in a dio setup that goes along with the character bio or in a fight with another figure to show scale/special moves etc. This would give the fighter maybe more of a personality.

See the one key factor that everyone is missing when it comes to sending the customs to Deremo is...Thats ALOT of shipping when it comes time to send them all back to their owners.ALOT.lol...the more pic idea i think is the best...

First off - thanks to Daremo for another awesome Kumite, the most fair and fun contest I've been involved in. I appreciate all the work it must take to organize and carry out.

It's been a blast admiring everybody's work. It was an excellent crop of fighters this year. I found the returning fighters particularly impressive because they showed how far people have come in a year, at least in terms of developing a customizing skill set. The arenas were awesome too.

As far as next year goes - I'd vote for more pictures in specific poses instead of mailing the figures. I think mailing them would make things feel more like an obligation for the customizers and then the work on Doug's end would be enormous once he got them all.

Also, and this is a minor thing, but I would maybe drop the idea of the fighters having to fit into a Joeverse setting or faction. A lot of people totally ignored this rule anyway. Personally, I only make Joeverse stuff, but when I was evaluating, I was kind of torn between simply picking the best looking figures and picking ones that also made sense in terms of GI Joe.

Anyway, thanks again. Looking forward to whatever comes next in the Kumite series.

Great ideas guys.

More pictures is good for me. Victory poses, defeated pose, taunts, kicking, punching, jumping, striking, etc. All good. I think I'd keep it to 6 photos for the fighter profiles portion though. Maybe enter as many photos as you want, but have 6 of them as the ones that you think best show off your custom. I can reserve the rest for the tournament. I may have to extend the time for starting the tournament just to get everything ready.

I think we can allow 1 dio type photo. As long as it compliments the fighter, I guess it can be allowed. The dio shouldn't be the focus for the custom but 1 photo can't hurt, right?

All of the fighters we've seen work in the Joeverse somehow. There are so many bizarre ideas and characters, it's really hard not to find a way to connect your character to the Joe world. Cobra-La (love it or leave it, right Kragg?), Aliens from Star Brigade, and technological advances from Mars Industries are just a few of the strange themes. It's also nice to have fighters that have no idea about the battle between the Joes and Cobra. Just regular people looking for a good fight. I never said the fighters had to be a member of G.I. Joe or Cobra or any other faction.

Your original custom fighter must be 3 ¾ scale and be able to exist in the G.I Joe Universe (i.e., no super hero powers, could be (but not limited to) a Joe, Cobra, or a member of another faction, etc.).

Yes, a loop hole if you will. The only requirement was they had to exist in the G.I. Joe Universe. With all the toys, comics, cartoons, and movies, there's plenty of room for anything. I don't like to stifle creativity but since this is a Joe site afterall... ;)

It doesn't make a difference in Kumite 2.5 though, as you won't be confined to the Joeverse at all. I think I'll test out some of these new ideas then too.

I should have all the prizes and scrolls shipped by the end of the week.
