On the back of Hasbro's "Kidscreen" magazine there's a close up pic of Ray Park as Snake Eyes. It's from the waist up and is closer in than any other we've seen, and his freaking mask has LIPS. I hate it when they put lips on figures' masks, but this is just too damn much.

this actually has been pointed out before on some other forums I go to.
But yeah, it's not any worse then bat-nipples, in the batman movies. I don't think.

But 1985 V2 Snake Eyes (the definitive version for many!) had lips too.
Classic precedent, no less!

I'm just hoping they don't do some stupid joke where he tries to eat something and it gets caught in the mask.
Like that car insurance commercial.

A list of differences to what you consider 'classic' GI Joe is not quite the same as a list of reasons this film will "suck".
As I keep saying, they could change everything yet still make an excellent, emminently watchable film.

Not only did the 85 v2 Se have lips, so did the 12 inch JvsC SE, too.

That's because there's NOTHING worse than bat-nipples. NOTHING.

what about lips on Optimus Prime? It's only until he goes into battle mode does his mouthshield from G1 show up.

This isn't at all like the bat-nipples, he's wearing a FABRIC MASK. Features will show, including someone's mouth.

Hey, it's not the movie's fault that George Clooney's nipples are too manly to be restrained by 1-inch rubber.

Bat-nipples are pretty damn bad, but was BATMAN & ROBIN awful because of them, or was it just a bland, souless dirge with no direction anyway?
Ultimately, the nips had no relation to it's 'badness'.

I have to admit that I had a lot of trouble with this one. I kept getting distracted watching those robot lips flapping away. I understand why it was done. It's the same reason we see way more Peter Parker and Bruce Wayne in the movies than we do in the comics. People can't relate to a man behind a mask. I just didn't like it when it came to Optimus.
I'd complain about seeing Snake Eyes without his mask, but come on, we accepted him break dancing and wearing a dress. Lips is kind of a step up.

Whats..wrong with um.....lips? If the mask is form fitting like its supposed to be......it would have lips. the original figures you could see his mouth.. this is snake eyes not storm shadow people.

I think the problem is not that he has lips. It's the fact that his mouth is open.Maybe in the movie it won't be noticeable.
Also SE being French sucks too.
Is this a new picture? If so, can you scan it and show us?

It's not new, it's just a close up of one of the first ones that was released.

I realize that Snake Eyes lips could be seen in the comics and stuff, I never had any problem with that, in fact, I always thought it was cool.
However, the way it seems to be portrayed in the movie via the pics (and I could be totally off on this, being that things are early), but its like his face has been painted black, to me, it doesnt even look like a fabric mask.
It even seems to show the contour lines of his face around his lips, and to me, it just looks a bit off and distracting.
I honestly have to say Im not big on it so far, but thats just my opinion.

Imagine that. Someone saying "it's gonna suck". Again. For the millionth time. Can't people come up with a better, less tired phrase?

I agree that V2 ARAH Snake Eyes is the definitive version and I did not realize he had lips, but with that said...
I could give a rip about realism when it comes to stuff like G. I. Joe. If you’re wearing a VERY thin and VERY tight mask then yes, your lips will show, but it looks lame! If you can see all of your features under a mask, then what is the point of wearing a mask? The whole reason behind wearing one to begin with is to look scary and menacing. And movie Snake Eyes looks more like his mask is more like a helmet with molded parts, and so it looks like the lips are molded onto the front. And that is not cool my friends, not cool at all.
And Bat-nipples aren’t why that movie sucked, but they did make it A LOT worse when it didn’t seem possible for that movie to be worse.
Prime’s lips bothered me in Transformers as well. They just looked weird and out of place.

Found a good photo of the Snake Eyes mask, without his visor. He has a very noticeable "sculpted rubber" face, which I'm not a huge fan of.
I wish they would error on the side of realism when making the costumes for this film. I think I would prefer a featureless cloth mask with goggles for Snake Eyes and modern military uniforms for the rest of the Joes compared to this "X-Men meets Starship Troopers" look.
Ah well, I'll still give the movie a chance. I hated the designs for the live-action Transformers and I hated the movie when I saw it in theaters, but I'm finally starting to warm up to it a little bit. Maybe the same thing will happen with this GI Joe movie.
But if the movie is crap, then at least we have the new GI Joe: Resolute cartoon to look forward to.
