Place your Bet


Before the tournament begins, there will be a chance to ‘place a bet’ on which fighter you think will win the tournament and become the Kumite II Champion. To “place your bet”, look over all of the entries for the Kumite II Tournament. Simply post the name of the fighter that you think will win the tournament in this thread. Sometime on or before Saturday June 11, I will ask for this thread to be locked. The betting phase will then end and the tournament will begin shortly thereafter. Follow the tournament to see if your fighter wins.

At the end of the tournament, everyone that correctly ‘bets’ on the fighter who becomes the Kumite Champion will have their names entered into a drawing. The winner of the drawing will receive a $50.00 Visa Gift Card.

Name of custom: Bakemono

Bio/Background/Origin: A lot is still unknown about bakemono but some information has come in after last year’s tournament. we know bakemono is a member of the arashikage clan and trained with snake eyes and storm shadow under the hard master. rumors of bakemono working for destro and mars industries are unsubstantiated, but some mars insiders say bakemono helps create conflicts in non conflict zones so destro can sell more arms. rumor or truth? but consider this, the combat suit that bakemono wears looks very much similar to the prototype shown to mars industries clients earlier this year.

Name of custom: Baldur

Bio/Background/Origin: Not much is known of Baldur except that he hails from Scotland. Rumor has it he was betrayed by Destro and thought to be dead for several years. Baldur caught wind of Destro's attendance to the tournament and was quick to secure an invitation to the tournament by brutally winning all his underground matches. With his family sword, Soul Reaver, at his side, he intends to unleash his berserker rage at the tournament.

What plans does Baldur have for Destro at the tournament? We will have to wait until the KUMITE to find out!

Work done on the custom:Figure is highly poseable and is painted with Testor's MM acrylic paint. Pauldrons (shoulder armor) are sculpted and are mounted on ball joints to allow a wide range of motion. Helmet is made out of a clone trooper helmet and some sculpted horns. Gauntlets are made by adding some sculpted spikes. Sword blade was made from scratch using apoxie and the handle was made with a Snake Eyes v34 nunchuk piece.

Name: Tristram McCullen

Code Name: Bloodwulf

Bio:
“He doesn’t care about dying, just losing.”
Seven years before Alexander McCullen was born, Destro fathered another son, Tristram McCullen. His mother was a gypsy whore who died giving birth to the boy. Tristram was born blind and with a genetic disorder called, Ectrodactyly, sometimes referred to as the “Lobster-Claw Syndrome.” Where most people would call him a monster, Destro called him son. Growing up Tristram was provided with the finest teachers in philosophy, military tactics, history, and science, along with his other studies. Tristram always asked his father why he must learn all these things. Tristram believed he could never lead men into battle or be a great leader with his defects. Destro would just stroke his hair and tell him, “one day you will know why.”

On Tristram’s 18th birthday Destro finally revealed to his son the path he was destined for. He told him how his empire, M.A.R.S. Industry, had the technology and resources to replace the things god so cruelly cursed him with; new legs, arms, and the gift of sight. He told him, “Kings, presidents and emperors will bow before you. Armies will cower at the very sight of you. You will be my greatest weapon.” Eager to please his father Tristram went forth willingly. After 64 hours of surgery Tristram was reborn, Bloodwulf. What nature denied him, modern science provided through cybernetic implants. Were once he had two useless hands and arms, now was gifted with four magnificent marvels of modern technology. No more would he be bound to a wheelchair and looked upon as a cripple. Speed and agility were now his allies. Whereas once he was surrounded by darkness, now optic implants showed him the way.

After Bloodwulf fully healed Destro brought in the finest war masters and soldiers to teach him. Destro told him, “You have one of the finest minds I have ever known; now we will train your body to be its equal.
It’s been 10 years since the procedures were done and the training began. Destro now believes his son is ready to stand by his side.

Work done on the custom: I started by breaking down the figure completely, and then modified all the parts that needed it. After cleaning and washing everything he was completely repainted. There is no original paint showing. I used green stuff and styrene tubes to modify the mask.

Name: Bushmaster

Bio/Background/Origin: Bushmaster was a spetsnaz soldier for years before he was recruited by Storm Shadow and Major Bludd to teach Cobras new elite viper troopers. under Bushmaster, the Viper teams became the best Cobra had to offer until one day, while training in the Gulf of Mexico, a small squad of 4 vipers tried to defect from Cobra. Bushmaster intercepted the squad and quickly took three of them out but one stood his ground in a hand to hand fight. As Bushmaster started to get the upper hand an explosion knocked him unconscious and the viper escaped.

Later the commander sent word to storm shadow to deal with bushmaster because most of his viper recruits were being sent to the infirmary by Bushmaster. Storm Shadow knew his friend and training partner needed a break and sent him to train with his arashikage clan .There he learned to channel his vengeance and train for the day he gets another chance at the one and only viper to escape ....Mercer.

Name: Croc King

Bio/Background/Origin: Unknown
Origin: Not too much is known on where Croc King originated. there are rumors that Croc master is his son. Rumored to be at least 200 years old, an immortal if you will, part of the story says that he found the legend fountain of youth and has been linked to voodoo/black magic. nothing else is known of this guy, just legends.

Name: Dragon

Bio:
Living and training around Longhu Mountain, Dragon has become a force within the region judging those who cross his path as they wander the dense forests and rivers. A custom Kwan Dao Wushu Steel was forged and painted to blend in with Dragon and the forest around them so that a victim won't see their death until the last moment. Locals have taken to
believing Dragon represents the opposing force to their simple ways of life and try to avoid traveling too deep into the area beyond the main roads connecting villages. As such, Dragon's only companions are a snake he has trained to attack anyone who isn't him and the various weapons & clothing he has taken off the bodies of his victims.

Work done on the custom:
Full coat of black and then three different greens dry brushed across the body. The Kwan Dao Wushu Steel combines DVD Serpentor's staff split down the center with a wing from Marvel Legends Wasp trimmed down heavily to become a blade.

Notes of special interest:
The face mask says "Dragon" and the back says "Hate". The Kwan Dao Wushu Steel's snake head is painted to match Dragon's pet snake so one never knows which serpent is coming their way.

Name: Count Vasco de León

Code Name: El Conquistador

Bio: After failing to win the first Kumite, Vasco felt so ashamed that he decided to end it all and kill himself. He went back to his room, fashioned a noose from a rope, threw it over one of the supporting beams and hung himself. As he dangled there, feeling the life escaping from his body he had a vision. He saw himself standing on a mountain of butchered bodies. Other fighters ripped limb from limb and him standing atop, victorious. Just before the last breath escaped from his body the beam snapped and he fell to the ground. As Vasco laid there on his back looking at the broken beam he knew right away what he needed to do. He knew why he was spared.

Vasco gathered his belongings and returned to Spain to start the preparation for the next Kumite. During the first Kumite he was fast, but he knew he could be faster. He redesigned his battle gear, trimming away all the fat to give himself full motion and to give himself lightning fast speed. After his gear was completed, he trained and trained. He believes this will be his year.

Work done on the Custom: He was completely broken down and repainted (except for the belt and his eyes). I used an x-acto knife to remove his helmet and sculpted hair using green stuff. I modified the Night Creeper’s armor to just leave the belt. His blades were made from Firefly’s gauntlets, styrene and fodder pieces.

Name : Euriga Oriotto

Bio:
The Oriotto Clan was the very first assassin clan from Japan. they ruled everything and owned everyone at that time. all of this ended when the Arashikage clan emerged, founded by a group of rebel assassins that wanted to bring balance to the country. so then the ancient war started between these two clans. Euriga is the last member of the Oriotto clan, his only goal is to destroy everything about the Arashikage. He wants to find out what happened with him and his memories, and know how the Arashikage exterminate the Oriottos.

there are a lot of things Euriga ignored because the person who raised, trained, and taught him about the clan wars was his own uncle, the mastermind behind a plan to finally destroy the arashikage. Euriga is the perfect tool for that work, so he makes his way to the Kumite to face a high ranking member of the Arashikage clan and start the whole Oriotto plan.

work done on the custom: sculpted the hair shoulder armour, chest, lower torso armour, gauntlets, arm protectors, belt and crest, knee protectors, shin guards, upper legs armour. the blade was made out of a chocolate steel bottle and added the sculpted handle.

notes of special interest: the most difficult part was to choose the color scheme, I wanted to use blue and silver but that made the custom look a lot like sub zero so I decided to add gold to the scheme and maybe change the blue for purple.

Ghost Tiger - Black Dragon Warrior

Believed to have ties to both Cobra and the Pan-Asian criminal organization known as the Black Dragons, there is a scarcity of reliable info regarding the operative known only as Ghost Tiger. Thought to be a Chinese national, we've ascertained that he made his rep on the underground death match circuit before hiring himself out in a mercenary capacity, serving as an assassin, bodyguard, and enforcer.

Analysis of surveillance footage captured during a Black Dragon raid suggest that he eschews modern weaponry in favor of a particularly ferocious version of the Tiger Claw fighting style, though it is likely that he is proficient in other styles as well. The tape indicates he prefers to attack forcefully and viciously, with little regard for his own safety. He seems to favor getting in close and finishing his prey quickly through the use of claws worn on his hands and feet, as well as a nasty looking set of working fangs mounted inside his tiger mask, though the swords on his back indicate he will resort to a more pedestrian form of melee combat when necessary.

An informant claims Ghost Tiger received his numerous scars in combat with an actual tiger but that can't be verified at this time. Joes operating in the Asian theater are advised to exercise extreme caution when encountering this decidedly deadly new foe.

Updated Information: Ghost Tiger continues to rise through the ranks of the Black Dragons, and we know that he has placed very highly in several underground fighting events throughout the last year. Success seems to have gone to his head, as he can now be seen sporting golden armor, jewels and other opulent accessories. He also carries an ornate shield, made in the traditional Chinese style. Has he added a more defensive element to his fighting style or is the shield simply another trinket?

This updated version of Ghost Tiger is the original figure with a fancier outfit, a new weapon and an alternate unmasked head. I approached this project as though he was a character in a fighting game, and sought to basically design him a more ornate costume, like we saw with many of the characters in the Mortal Kombat franchise. The figure is fully painted.

Name of your custom: Gikan

Bio/Background/Origin: After Kumite I Gikan went back home to improve his fighting skills and looked for ways to improve his weaponry. His idea was to have at least one weapon that would attack with every move it made. That resulted in the personalized tonfa. Handling the tonfa, any defensive move turns in an offensive move as well. Every swing, block, punch, stab or hit with the tonfa is a move with one of the spiked or edged sides of the weapon too. And that's just his right hand. In his left hand, Gikan handles a kama that pretty much functions the same as the tonfa, but it has different angles and blades to complete his balance of ways to attack and defend. Finally, the Flying Guillotine is Gikan's most mysterious new weapon. It's a legendary weapon, supposed to be invented in ancient China. The outer blades are thought to be soaked in poison, the inside of the thing has never been seen. All that is known is that it can decapitate a victim with a pull from the chain.

Name: Gin Winndu (Dark Wind)

Biography/Back ground:
GIN WINNDU, known as Dark wind, lived in a small village in china. his family was being attacked and slaughtered by a group of mercenary ninjas. He was then placed in a small basket/carriage by his aunt and moved into the rivers flowing hours and hours to another village hoping that someone may find him and save him. A lady heard a baby crying near the Rocky River and went and grabbed the baby out of the basket and was happy. She read a small note identifying the baby’s family and home. The Chinese lady read it and saved it, but was happy to raise the baby with her brother who was from the shaolin temple.

The boy ended up growing up in the shaolin temple learning principles, discipline and the art of shaolin martial arts, he even lived there. One day there was a strong storm and Gin could not sleep. he walked outside and saw that the village was being damage by the strong winds. He heard voices from the wind that were his parents and felt them calling him. He got closer to the voices of the wind the voices stated in his ear “you have this power too son, absorb this energy for you are the last of our kind”. Gin was not afraid as he absorbed a windy energy that flew through his body gave him special abilities to see and feel, and absorb knowledge. Gin has worked on a rare meditation everyday and started to grow strong as a teenager.

He left the shaolin monks and did not feel this was his way to live. As he grew older he has gotten into many fights with many fighters and traveled to every town and country all over the world to fight in tournaments. Every fighter that has had an old or new fighting style, Gin has absorbed it like water when you place any colored liquid in water. The water duplicates it, that’s what gin did. he was also trained at a popular martial arts school by Master Yip, for several years learning every style he can learn. All the knowledge that gin absorbed he turned it into one defiant martial art style wun-Winndu, a deadly mixed martial art style.

With his gift he has defeated masters and their apprentices. One day gin goes to the town where he was raised and visits his step mother. She spoke to him about how she found him and gives him a note she had for many years saved. When gin read the note he became furious and upset with rage, understanding his step mother is not his real mother. He went to the village to find out what happened to his parents. As he traveled to his old village and questioned everyone around.

He found a house on fire before leaving the old village . He got closer and found dozens of red and black ninja’s. Some came at him and he swung his leg. He slapped 3 heads with one swing and they all dropped like a domino effect. As he went inside the burning house and saw the ninja’s throwing fire and making the house burn down. He saw lots of smoke and cleared it with the wind and then attacked all the ninjas. They turned to fight but it was too dark and too windy. Then a sword came out of the dark cloudy wind and cut/sliced every ninja that attacked him.

Other ninjas that were breathing ended up breathing the dark wind. Even though they fought back while fighting they felt the cold and started shaking. Gin sliced every ninja inside the house and was gone like the wind. when he walked out the house, fire went out and the smoke cleared up. No fog, no smoke, no mist can alter or penetrate the dark wind. While walking home he found an old man, laying drunk which the old man stated to gin, “your parent’s killers are behind closed doors and can be found only if you join their tournament”. gin asked what tournament? Which he would join later to find answers.

Fighting Styles: Has mastered the Art of war in martial arts. Comprehending dynamic movements, death touch, trained by master Yip, Wing Chun, Advance Kalarippayattu, Muay Thai, Kung fu, Aikido, Jun Fan Jeet Kune Do, flying daggers, brazilin Jiu-jitsu, Wushi, expert sword fighting and samurai, and wun-Winndu

Special Ability: Disable the enemy completely
Uses his third eye a special Wind wun ability to picture his opponent’s body projection by zooming into the body’s anatomy to see, and feel the heart beating, following the movement of oxygen and find the weakest organ that lacks of oxygen to strike precisely wounding any organ to make bleed inside, making his opponent desperate for oxygen and short of breath along with the pain of agony.

Work done on custom: Fully painted, used apoxie sculpt on the neck as an inside turtle neck. apoxie sculpt on both swords to give better style. Fully sanded, painted and more paint. Black hat used metal pin to make holes then paint and place string in little holes then used apoxie sculpt to create rim on the hat then paint.

Interest of special note: Gin Winndu once had a family, his wife and daughter, one time when he came home from another country during a tournament, his wife was found dead and his daughter kidnapped by some mysterious ninja’s. Gin Winndu is known to be the biological father of JINX.

After losing his right eye in service, Vincent Graves was Honorably Discharged from the military at 30 years old. Later that year his home was raided by armed thugs and set on fire, in what seemed like an organized hit. Moments later, his cell phone rang and the voice on the other end informed Vincent that he has his wife and 12 year old daughter...He hears them screaming , until he hears the gunshots.....

...Graves ends up an alcoholic, riding with the ‘Noks, drinking and fighting, for about a year. He then caught the eye of an underground fight promoter who trains him even more in street fighting....
At 32, after a substantial winning record, rumors of his family’s killer began circulating...
At this point he was living in Japan, and immediately sought out the sword master Hatori Hanzo. Hanzo trained Graves in the art for about a year...in which he then crafts Vincent his blade.

Returning to the states, the now 34 year old discovered his families killers whereabouts; he was a drug dealing nightclub owner in NYC...With the help of the 'Noks, he raided the club and confronted the boss...Right before Graves separated his head from body, the club owner spat out the info that while he DID INDEED kill Graves wife, he did NOT kill his daughter...His wife’s death was a paid hit and the man that ordered it has Vincent’s now 16 year old daughter...ALIVE. He said that the man was also a street fighter, but failed to tell him his identity. Before expiring...
Now at 37 years of age, he’s been traveling for the past 3 years...fighting for money and respect...searching for his daughter...seeking revenge...then he hears the word of KUMITE II......

Bio/Background: Hei Lao Hu was born in Hong Kong. Hei Lao Hu was a powerful general and practitioner of the Shaolin Tiger style of kung fu and Jeet Kune Do. He was the former teacher and master of Gatos. He is wise and powerful fighter. He enters the recently announced Kumite Tournament 2 to avenge Gatos defeat and win the tournament. Name: Hikari Shinde (translation: Dead Light)

Bio:
Hikari Shinde once held the distinction of being the Arashikage Clan's youngest apprentice. Though diminutive in size, Shinde's masterfully exploitive nature tempered by his intense focus and tenacity showed the markings of a true ninja even in childhood. As his training continued, he soon began to feel within himself an overwhelming, energetic dissonance. Shinde learned the true nature of these feelings once confronted with the assassination of the Hard Master and the inevitable dissolution of the clan.

Unconvinced of the Young Master's guilt, Shinde would not continue his training alongside the growing Red Ninja faction of the fallen Arashikage. Instead, he sought to further his training in various, remote dojos as well as more academic venues. Now, years after the clan's diaspora, Hikari Shinde finds himself utilizing both modern and occult influences to form a new clan of ninjas designed to bring "Fire over Fire". The Kogi No Arashi are now
poised to rain fire down from the Heavens to burn off what remains of the fallen Arashikage. Hikari Shinde enters the Kumite Tournament in hopes to claim several, red shozoku as his trophies.

Woork done on this custom:
Split torso and trimmed plastic away to provide for a deeper ab crunch. Used the "boil n pop" method to swap out parts for the arms, hands and feet. I trimmed off part of the belt so I could have his swords sitting above his left hip without having a pouch hanging over his pelvis. I also had wanted to give him two full length sheaths but these in particular have a curve to them which went opposite of how I needed them so I opted to trim them, then just glued them together.

Everything was base painted black except for his skin and eyes. I do this because I generally prefer a dirty and drab palette. His skin was painted in Citadel Elf Flesh. His pants and shirt were dry brushed with Citadel Shadow Grey. His boots, gloves, helmet and vest are black with dry brushed Citadel Boltgun Metal over the plates of armor. His harness, backpack, belt and sheaths were dry brushed with Citadel Fortress Grey. His shurikens and katanas were given two coats of Testor's MM Acrylic Silver. This paint had a really nice flake quality about it which really makes the weapons shine in person. His shurikens CAN be stored in his backpack but I like to pretend they’re in the pouch on his belt.

Notes of special interest:
I haven't finished a custom in years if memory serves correctly. This custom is my interpretation of a classic ninja with modern sensibilities. Inspiration comes from classic games such as Ninja Gaiden, Shinobi and Mortal Kombat. He's got some high tech goodies but those aren't allowed in the tournament. *pout* Perhaps next year he, or possibly one of his minions, will return carrying enough gadgetry to make a Night Creeper blush.

Name: Hiro Tekuno

Bio: Hiro is the youngest child of Master Tekuno, leader of the Tekuno ninja clan and CEO of Tekuno Enterprises. He wanted to enter in the first Kumite, but his father forbade it. Wishing to prove his worth as a fighter, Hiro has entered in the second Kumite against his father's wishes. He has been trained for battle, both physical and economic, since birth, but the Master still feels he is not ready to risk his life.

Work done: It's a full, new paint job from head to toe (except for the skin on the left arm and the skin and eyes on the head). I modified the gauntlet to fit properly on the new arm, and bashed the bandoleer/armor together from loooots of fodder. I also cut in sword slashes into the armor, but I don't know if that really showed up on camera. It's totally there, though.

Notes of Special Interest: None, really. The whole "Tekuno" clan is something I've been working on for a while, and I hope I finish the rest of the clan to show here, too.

Name: Hrothmeir

Bio/Background/Origin: Following his defeat in the first great Kumite Tournament, the warrior priest known as Hrothmeir wandered the world, trying to renew his faith in himself and, more importantly, in God. In time, he came to suspect that perhaps he had misspent his life, that happiness came not from the thrill of battle but lay in humble service to God and one’s fellow man. Having at last attained peace, Hrothmeir settled in a small village in the Balkans, content to live out the rest of his days as an ascetic. It could not last.

After only a few months of his new life, the village that Hrothmeir had settled in was overrun by the forces of Cobra, looking to make a new base of operations in Eastern Europe . Despite a feeling of great unease, Hrothmeir entered into the defense of the village and, in time, the invaders were repelled.
In their wake, Hrothmeir found a scroll. Inside was an invitation for him to compete in the next great Kumite Championship…

Notes of special interest: The origin above notwithstanding, this figure is actually based upon a character in a novel I am writing; the look of the character has actually been in development for about four years now, and is in fact what I’m currently using as my Hiss Tank avatar. A friend's failed RoC Scarlett in classic colors custom came my way so I decided to give it a second chance at life. Head to toe all the original paint has been wiped out with a solid coat of black before dry brushing yellow across the body. Clear green has been applied over the yellow/black for the body armor pads and to keep the original color scheme going.

No strings or any Photoshop trickery was used to bring the manriki gusari to life.

Growing up in Tokyo Naofumi Yamamoto loved reading ninja manga, especially Naruto and Ruroni Kenshin, he also loved Kurosawa filsm, so when he heard there was an opening in the Black Dragons he jumped at the chance to fill the void.

All Lotus knows about her past is that she was the daughter of a business man who had shady dealings with the Japanese Yakuza. When her father betrayed the Yakuza they hired the Koga ninja clan to assassinate him and his family. After the ninja had killed her parents and her older brother and sister, he came to murder Lotus who was 4 years old at the time. Looking down on the tear streamed face of the infant; the ninja felt a sense of longing for his own daughter who had died by drowning in the stream close to the clan’s dojo at the same age. Taking pity on the girl and also for filling his own selfish needs, the ninja took the girl back the clan with him.

The other members of the clan were outraged at what the ninja had done and demanded the child be killed instantly. The ninja refused and insisted that she become a member of the clan and taught the secret arts of the ninja as a replacement for his lost daughter. His argument was that the clan was becoming weaker from the loss of many brothers in the field and accidental deaths during training and that the child was still young enough to be trained as one of them. He also declared that he would stand in the way of anybody harming the child and would fight to the death to protect her. As this particular ninja was not only the most talented of the clan but also the only living son of their Grand Master, the other clan members hesitated to act.

They then declared it was up to the Grand Master to decide whether she lived or died. The ninja agreed to this and took the child to the Grand Master and explained the situation. The Grand Master had witnessed the death of his granddaughter and had felt the same pain as the ninja when she had died, as he looked on the innocent face of the child he had the same longing that had made the ninja act so rashly in the first place. He decided that the child would remain in the clan and trained as a ninja and gave her the name Lotus.

Over the years Lotus trained as hard as any of the clan and became a very skilled ninja in her own right. She developed a bond with one of the other students, an American boy who had joined the clan in a similar fashion. Lotus did not know the full story of how she came to the clan, her ninja father told her that he found her near a plane wreckage and the rest of her family had died in the crash.

In her teen years with the clan Lotus became rebellious, with a little help from the American boy, and started to get into some trouble with the clan. When she turned seventeen she passed her finale test with ease and became a full Koga ninja. A little while after they had passed their test the American boy asked Lotus to leave the clan with him and become an assassin team of their own to make more money. Lotus refused as she still loved her surrogate father and did not want to bring dishonour on him. Angry at Lotus for being so naive the American boy told Lotus of how she really came to the clan and that it was her so called father that killed her family. At first Lotus did not believe him and thought he was just saying that to make her go with him. She called him a liar and said that she would never go with him.

The next day the American boy left the clan and Lotus was left alone to deal with her thoughts. It took her a full week to sum up the courage to ask the Grand Master about what the American boy had told her. The Grand Master looked into the face of his surrogate granddaughter and saw that she needed the truth. The Grand Master told her the true story of her family’s death and about what a risk her ninja father had taken in sparing her life. Lotus showed no emotion to her Grandfather after hearing this news, as was her training, but inside she felt a boiling hatred toward her surrogate family.

That night her ninja father came to her room to talk to his daughter, as the Grand Master had told him that she now knew the truth. As her father began to explain, Lotus could not suppress the anger blazing up inside her and took her father’s sword and buried it to the hilt right in her father’s heart. Lotus then fled the clan, worried about retribution for killing one of their most prominent members. She then fled the country heading to Europe.

Over the years since her flight from the clan she became a very well known assassin, only taking jobs of killing very bad people and never killing the family of said targets. The Koga ninja clan has put out a bounty for her head as well as sending their own assassins to deal with her.

Bio/Background/Origin: The battle has been raging for nearly thirty years, and it shows no sign of ending. The Joes win some, the Cobras win others… when will it end? After Cobra unleashed their super-soldier Serpentor on the world, the Joes had finally had enough. Bio:
Name: Dr. Magnus L. Martillo
Place of Birth: Cardiz, Spain
Primary Specialty: Hand to Hand and Silent Weapons Combat Instructor

Dr. Martillo grew up learning about his Moor and Viking ancestry, so it was only natural that took a great interest in the fighting styles of the 2 conquering cultures. He had master the Jlinda fighting style by the time he was in his early teens, and then began studying the martial arts texts Liechtenauer, Le je de la hache, and Flos Duellatorum. Once proficient in these medieval European fighting styles, he also had a strong affinity towards bladed weapons. This induced him to study Materials Science and Engineering (Metallurgy) at the University of Cambridge, and it was there that he obtained his doctorate in that field. During this time he spent a great deal of time traveling the world, studying various martial arts, and learning the Masamune sword smithing technique.
Once finished with college, he returned home to Spain to serve his compulsory military service, acting as an advisor to the rebels of Sierra Gordo. It was there that he first encountered GI Joe, became fast friends with Recondo after they dispatched a Cobra squad that had unwisely chose to ambush the rebels in the jungle. Soon after he was approached by Hawk about joining the Joe team as an instructor. While with the Joes, he developed the light weight alloys and polymers that he uses for this armor and custom weapons. He often would greet new recruits in full battle gear and shield (which is completely ornamental), and would promptly humiliate those that mocked him. He retired from the Joe team in the mid 1990s.
Though the medieval fighting styles are his preferred martial arts, he is also a master of Black Tiger Kung Fu, Kendo, Hapkido, Muay Lao, Kampfringen, and Stav. He is an expert at fighting with axe, staff, bow, mace, and all manner of bladed weapons. He has even been observed practicing jousting.
He has entered the kumite this time around to prove that the Far East isn't the only source of martial arts.

I was inspired by the Night's Watch from the Tale of Fire and Ice books (Game of Thrones, etc) by George RR Martin, and thought it would be an opportunity to have a character that not only was a master of the eastern fighting arts, but would first and foremost was a master of the brutal arts of the Medieval European and North African martial arts. I originally envisioned a great horned helm as the books describe Gendry of making, but decided it would be too unwieldy.

Name of custom: Jaztine Ruiz - Purple Hunt

Bio/Background/Origin:
Hardened by the streets of Spain in her youth; thieving, fighting and surviving had been her training. Having mastered the art of the Keysi Fighting Method and Ninjitsu, she became a formidable foe. A silent and deadly fighter, a weapon master at long range with a Kyoketsu or specializing in close combat with her fist and heavy boots, whether against one on one or against multiple assailants. She is now known as the Purple Hunt, profiting off those who try to profit in the night. Where once she was tormented and hunted, the hunted is now the hunter.

Having been bested in the last tournament, Hunt realizes that beating on thugs and punks while profitable, they made very poor training opponents. The world will now be her training ground . To train for the next tournament, she has traveled the world accepting any challenge; fighting anything or anyone. Confident in her fighting skills the focus of her training has been on martial weapons...ensuring no weapons malfunction to cause her a defeat a second time. Fruits of her labor: new look, new armor, and new weapons expertise, same ass kicking attitude. The HUNT is on....again!

Lots of sanding to smooth all parts. Only lower legs, feet, and hands were left untouched and only repainted. Alot of masking to create fish nets. Labor intensive threading to detail shoulder and thigh armor.

Notes of special interest:
I used the exact opposite parts leftover from Purple Hunt version 1. I had to substitute some parts from a star wars storm trooper and a SE part because I had damaged those parts during version 1 disassembly process. I had to reuse the head because the Roc Baroness head....I don't have the skill to salvage it into a decent face.

Name: "Quetzalcoatl" (Plumed Serpent God)

Character bio: Born to impoverished mountain-dwelling peasant-farmers in central Mexico, it was difficult to imagine that the young man known then as Tlacelel would grow up to fulfill his audacious namesake and become "the greatest of male heroes" from his region. But even at an early age Tlacelel exhibited prowess in every task and ability unmatched by any other in the neighboring villages. At home--at work and at play--he was always the fastest, quickest, and strongest of his bunch. But physical ability aside, he also proved especially adept and intelligent for being the son of poor farmers; while no formal education was afforded the people of such meager and humble status, he was quick to learn and memorize the legends passed on through oral tradition, and quickly picked up on astronomy and agriculture.

His athleticism eventually earned him the right to earn a modest education in the capital of his home country, where he studied the sciences, mathematics, history, sociology, and perfected his Spanish; excelling in sports and all subjects in secondary school, he earned a full-scholarship and the opportunity to attend University to study Anthropology, Spanish, French, and English. But even when immersed in all of his studies of the world, he could not shake off the tales of the Aztec gods, of the history of his people--of the original peoples of Mexico.

It was shortly after graduation and during a desperate Mexican economy that Tlacelel put his athleticism to the test--and for his own financial gain--and joined a Mexican lucha libre troupe. In an honest attempt and desire to remind the Mexican people who watched and admired him of their proud history, and of their promise from the gods, he began adorning himself with feathers and referring to himself as Quetzalcoatl, the famed feathered-serpent god of Aztec legend. His dominance of opponents, his ease of movement within the ring, his charisma and his mounting victories earned him the admiration of many. It wasn't long before his birth name was forgotten and he became known only as his character--Quetzalcoatl.

Returning to his home a wealthy and nationally admired young man, Quetzalcoatl withdrew unto himself. He began having visions--glorious visions: visions of conquest, of pride, of victory. The young man, compelled by a force from within, mined for the materials to construct his weapons for combat. He found the precious, dark, hard obsidian that his ancestors had used to fashion their weapons of war centuries earlier. He spent months secluded forging his weapons, preparing to battle the other combatants that were on the same course he had been thrust upon at the day of his birth; a collision course culminating at Kumite II.

Fighting styles: Aztec melee, traditional "lucha libre" grappling and tumbling, kickboxing

Weapons: 'Quetzalcoatl' fashioned a sword shaft entirely of obsidian with a hilt made of iron--he is convinced this sword is a sword of divinity as it is rare to find individual rock with length enough to fashion an entire sword from one piece.
He has also fashioned a knife, in the form of a typical "sacrificial" knife used by Aztec priests during ceremonial human sacrifices centuries ago; the knife's blade is fashioned from bronze with an obsidian handle, inlaid with sapphire.

He wears a harness that wraps around his shoulders and chest; at the center, or "heart" of the assembly is giant inlaid, rounded, polished obsidian to symbolically prevent any warrior from taking his heart as sacrifice to their god.

He also wears spiked feet dressings. The contraptions are fashioned from Aztec gold and feature prominent sharpened obsidian "talons". The foot gear is designed to represent the feet and talons of eagles, such as the one that was seen devouring a serpent while perched on an opal cactus in Tenochtitlan--the founding site of the Aztec civilization.

In honor of and to convey the god of the sky, Quetzalcoatl wears a serpent headdress with plumage and a colorful array of feathers attaches to his shoulder harness. While the headdress and feathers are not intended to serve deliberately as weapons, some believe that the mere sight of the serpent strikes fear into onlookers, and that the colorful array of feathers serve to distract his competitors.

Special notes of interest: A BIG thanks to Slim19722 for setting me up with the Hawkman parts; without those, I don't think I would have been able to pull this character off and thus enter the competition. The Serpentor head I ended up using for the custom (was between that and Spirit, and figured I wouldn't be able to get a serpent headdress on a Spirit head) was the first roadblock in the project where I thought it was going to be impossible. The head sat way too low on the figure and the character would have had no neck; I plugged up the cranial cavity with "green stuff" and plopped it on at the desired height (or depth, depending on your point of view) and let it dry, then trimmed and sanded the excess to make it look natural. VERY happy with how that technique worked for me. I wanted to pull in as much of the "Montezuma's Skeleton" figure as I could since this character is Aztec and there is already an Aztec-based "figure" in the ME line, so I originally planned to use the crown and the sword, but then realized I could also pull in the "skirt"/loin cloth. Finally, I didn't realize that one of those legs--either Storm Shadow v26's knees or Storm Shadow v28's right thigh is shorter than the left side. It's impossible to get the figure to stand properly straight. He always has a slight "right" lean.

Name: Reaver - Dreadnok Viking

Bio:
Always up for a fight, the Dreadnok known as Reaver is equally adept at drunken brawls, swamp shootouts, or vicious melee combat. He has entered the tournament seeking great plunder, utilizing the fierce fighting style of his Scandinavian ancestors. He sports a jailhouse tattoo that reads as 'Dreadnok' in the ancient Runic language. His favorite weapons are the battle axe, long sword, and spear. He carries a shield, but will often drop it in favor of wielding two edged weapons.

Nicholas Duncan
“Riposte”

Bio:
Nick Dunkan thought he had a pretty good life going for him. He had a decent job working for his father’s construction company, a great girlfriend, and a very good chance of making it onto the 2012 Olympic Fencing Team. That was until he lost his hand to something the government tells him doesn’t exist. And that he would cease to exist if he told anyone what really happened.

It all happened while Nick was exploring a newly opened tunnel. Rather than order one of his men down into the tunnel to take rock soundings Nick went himself. Looking back he would probably tell you that was his greatest mistake, and the beginning of his greatest adventure. Turning the corner of the tunnel he saw something coming towards him. He lifted his light to get a better look, and saw the yellowest eyes, reddest scales, biggest smile he could ever hope to avoid close over the flashlight, and his right hand.

He awoke in the hospital the next day with two feds sitting in the seat next time him. They informed him that he was bitten by an escaped iguana, and if he told anyone otherwise he would not live to tell anyone anything else. Shortly thereafter he met Earl, the head of Monster Hunter International. Earl informed Nick that monsters, all those scary stories, bumps in the night, boogymen in the closet, were real. He also told him that if he was up to the challenge, he could have the opportunity to give the beast a little payback.

So Nick signed up with MHI. That was 13 months ago. In that time Nick has learned a few things about that big red lizard. Turns out he is some sort of mutant, a trained fighter for some terrorist organization determined to conquer the world. The beast has been sent to fight in an underground tournament called Kumite. It turns out that his shot at the Olympics is gone, but those sword fighting skills are just the thing to earn him an invitation to the tournament. When Nick pointed out that he was right handed and was having a hard time holding a sword lately Earl told him to go visit Milo, MHI’s resident crackpot and weapons designer. Milo Introduced Nick to Quicksilver, it was love at first slice.

Entering the tournament under the name “Riposte” Nick is looking forward to getting a little payback, and to seeing if there are any other monsters hiding in the shadows of this Dojo. He will have the final strike.

I wanted to create a fighter that looked like an average guys, or at least as average as you can get for a worldwide fighting tournament. I sculpted on an un-tucked T-shirt ,and painted him up wearing street clothes. I originally planned on having a pair of gauntlets but decided that cutting off one hand and reducing it to the one weapon added more to his back story.

Name: Rudarius

Bio/Background/Origin:
Rudarius was born and raised in Italy. Started wrestling as a child, but turned to MMA as an adolescent. Almost immediately became Italian champion at the age of 18, when he was allowed to compete at professional fights. He quickly got involved in illegal underground fights all through southern Europe. Gained a reputation as an inventive and graceful, but yet powerful fighter.

In that illegal fighting business, Rudarius came in touch with a more challenging type of fighting known as "Decerto" (fight to the finish with weapons). It's basically the equivalent of the Kumite, but its history goes back to the original gladiator fights in the Roman culture and often involves deaths of fighters. Participants fight under contract of lanista, gladiator bosses. Rudarius started that way too, fought and won over 50 matches, which gained him his ceremonial wooden sword and his "freedom" to fight for his own.

As a champion of the southern Europe, Rudarius now seeks for other fighting tournaments all over the world.

Name: The Drifter

Bio:
Only known as The drifter he has traveled the globe in search of fighting contest like this. For it was a contest much like this one where his older brother was killed. He was one of the fighters in the contest but the winner had to kill the loser. His brother was truly the winner in the fight until the losing fighter took a guardsmen sword and cut his brothers head off. Inspired by rage and determined with vengeance he is hoping to one day find the one who killed his brother and avenge his death.

Work done to this figure: Had to sand the arms to make them fit the torso. Dremel the head a little so that it fit the neck ball. I first painted the entire figure brown leather Acrylic. Dry brushed with a beige. Painted the belt flat black to add some contrast. Then mixed a custom paint to color match the hands to the face.

Special Notes of Interest: This figure is a mixture of mortal kombat's Raiden and Kung Lao.

Name: Troy Kendall "TKO" Oswald.

Bio/Background/Origin: Troy was brought up in the fake world of professional wrestling. His father was a World Champion and it was assumed that Troy would follow in his footsteps. Troy excelled in his training and during this time added MMA style to his arsenal. At the age of 21 he was already a 2 time World Champion in the Universal Wrestling Championship. Troy was bored already of the lack of true competition in the wrestling world and left for the more competitive world of cage fighting.

In his third match disaster struck and he killed an opponent. Avoiding prosecution he was no longer wanted as a fighter. Troy needed the thrill of the fight though and went on the underground circuit. He added weapons training to his ever growing skills and spent his dwindling fortune buying the best equipment he could afford.

His star began to rise as he won the world famous Iron Fist tournament. Now he has decided to test his metal at the Kumite tournament.

Fighting Style: MMA, Greco-Roman wrestling, Chun Kuk Do.

Weapons: Antique sword, Combat knife, Bolas.

The Reigning Kumite Champion
Name: Wu-shi (fog warrior) “first kumite champion”

Bio/Background/Origin:
a year has passed since the wu-shi won the first kumite. He returning to his village to rebuild the dojo of “white dragon”, proud of the title belonged to him. However, wu-shi never guesses what filled him with pride and it becomes his curse. Fighters, murderers, criminals and powerful people sought him, some to have him as a bodyguard and others only to confront him, to kill the legend of the fog warrior. Wu-shi faced many enemies with success, but there comes a time in the dojo that the students were at risk. wu-shi decides to disappear; thinking that by not being there, no one would attack the dojo.
Wu-shi was going from town to town, like a humble farmer looking to go unnoticed, getting jobs to survive, and learned other combat techniques and the use of new weapons to help him go unnoticed and be always ready to fight. however, the ambition and the hatred of many, followed him as tracking and pursuing like a fugitive. Tired of persecution, wu-shi decided to return to defend his title at kumite 2. Arriving at the tournament location, the villagers shouted at his arrive: the champion is back!!! But, he has not come alone!!

this custom was very simply, I chose the storm shadow poc body. I always design my custom for play, so I try to have a figure whit a high range of motion. the design of the cape, is the key of this total figure, because I had to hide all the weapons in the figure, then I agree the hat, and paint some dirty and shadows effects, and for the last step I put a flat clear cover to have a better realism of the figure.

Name: Xiao Hu

Bio:
Xiao Hu has been a monk who has been searching for his lost brother. After joining the Kumite last year, he was able to find his brother that became paralyzed from the waist down after being injured in other fighting tournaments. Now Xiao Hu is returning to the Kumite to prove to himself that he is the best. He believes that fighting in sanctioned tournaments is a way of testing one's skills and knowing one's self more.

Name: Yaguarete/Yago

Bio/Background/Origin:
Alessandro Santiago was born to parents who were animal conservationists in the Pantanal region of eastern Brazil. Having parents as wildlife researchers and veterinarians, "Yago” was close and fond of the fauna of Pantanal, especially the rare Jaguar which the locals call el Yaguerete. At a young age he saw how much his parents fought off animal poachers and traders despite numerous threats.

One night, their house was set on fire killing both his parents, Yago sustained burns on his left arm but was saved by a local farmer that saw the fire. At the age of 5, Yago was now living with the farmer who was a Miestre of the art of Brasilian Capoiera. Yago was a typical kid who enjoyed playing football but he never lost his love for working with animals.

In his teens, Yago supplemented his Capoiera skills with Brasilian Jiu-jitsu. For him to finish College, he became a teacher of Capoiera and Jiu-jitsu and joined No-Holds Barred Fights which was typical in Brasil, the spectators thought that his nickname, Yago, was short for Yaguarete. (actually it was short for his family name). To hide the scars of his burns, he tattooed jaguar patterns on his upper arm which extended to his neck and torso.

Name: YING-BÁI (White Eagle)

Bio/Background/Origin:
descendant of a samurai family and possesses a unique style of fight, a high skill with the management of sais, a deadly aim with the shurikens and an amazing swordplay, ying-bái, was one of the best students of the rebuilt “white dragon dojo”. however when his master, wu-shi disappeared, ying-bái decided to find him to keep training together. Ying-bái followed and tracked him for many cities until he found him in a fierce battle against a clan of murderers. Without thinking, ying-bái took his sword and battled hand by hand with his master, eliminating all opponents!!

Ying-bái became wu-shi´s side kick and his cover until they got to the kumite tournament. for his loyalty and honor, wu-shi instructed ying-bái to participate in the tournament, where he showed his true strength.

For this custom I chose the storm shadow temple master, I always design my custom for play, so I try to have a figure whit a high range of motion. For this fig I have to devastate part of the chest, and cut the shoulder armors for have the best range of motion for the arms, then I cut the chest armor lower, to agree the cloth belt for the same purpose, and agree the cape that is composed of two pieces. I had to slice the hood for added softness to move the head.

The next step was to make the bag to carry the sais. This one was composed for a little bag of the ss temple belt whit two smaller clips to hold the sais.
Then I make a piece to hold the sable and added to the cloth belt and then I painted the armor of whit white color, and agree light gray shadow effects and for the last step I put a flat clear cover to have a better realism of the figure.

The 'bet' has nothing to do with voting. Only those who entered the custom contest get to decide who wins the tournament with the evaluations (which need to be turned in before Wednesday June 8th). This is just something fun for everyone to do while we wait for the tournament to start. Nobody here will know who will be the champion until I post the results from the final match.

My main fighter doesn't do kicks, but wait till you see the poses I was able to get my filler fighter to stay in. At least I hope you get to see them. With this many submissions I don't know if our extra submissions will get much use.
