An OK figure that looks good but has a few issues. Fans of the original look will be pleased with him, but there are a few problems that detract from the figure's overall impact.

If I end up buying him, he'll be my arctic CC. Still on the fence though...

He's not a majorly *bad* figure, per se. He's just very unrefined and kind of lacking in too many areas.

Have this guy on the pile at home, can't wait to open him. My first faceplate Cobra Commander, heh.

If you're a fan of the Commander you'll probably dig it. It is a pretty good likeness and if you can get past the basic-ness of the figure you'll probably enjoy it. It's just not very inspiring and should have been a lot better.
Great review Iok. I just got mine yesterday from smalljoes and have been on the fence whether to keep him or give him to my son. I think I'm going to keep him and use him and make him my Artic CC. I think he'll look good next to Artic Destro and my Ice Vipers and Snow Serpents.
I like the overall sculpt and I'm glad Hasbro changed the legs from blue to black. I too would have like either a holster or a sheath for his sword. He's not a figure I would go out of my way to get but since he came in the way, I'll find a use for him.
Thanks Joefan.
You're absolutely right about the on the fence feeling. I bought him as part of a large haul (mainly as I'm a completist) and whilst he's OK, he just lacks any real oomph or X-Factor kind of feel to make him really shine or stand-out.

I'll pick one up and and give it a light dusting of white on the legs so he looks good in a snow dio.

Good idea. He certainly looks quite snug in his coat and cloak!

I put the POC Chase CC head on him and looks great that way too.
good review............ i like this version of cc, now i know the cape is removable , ill be picking one up.
Thanks.
Yeah, the cloak comes in the packaging (where the base and colour catalogue/sheet thing usually are) and fits very easily. You don't even need to remove the head and the cloak fits quite nicely around his jacket collar.

Yeah, I could see that working. I just wish they'd chromed the head properly rather than just used that silver paint.

Thanks for the review. I have to say, I am a fan of Cobra Commander. He's gotta be my favorite character. That doesn't mean I'm a fan of every Cobra Commander figure, I think it actually makes me that much more picky about the figures of him I add to my collection. I snagged him today figuring I could use the helmet, maybe the Cobra dagger, and probably the staff. Throw away the cape and the silly jacket and just give him his staff, and you have a really cool Cobra Commander for PoC that is still a throw back to the older look. The ones I've seen have issues with the silver helmet having paint rubs on them. still a cool figure and I'm glad I snagged one. My .02

I'll likely use him for a custom of another character. I don't like having more than one of the same character on my shelf. I like to have one definitive version.

Yeah, he's a nice interpretation of the character (and personally I don't mind the concept of the jacket - it's the poor seams that I dislike) and I'm sure fans of the older-look will dig this.
I'm guessing that's what happened to my Commander in his packing process (the visor rub-off, I mean.) I wish they'd gone with the Cobra Viper chrome, though.

Vesty pantsuits!

Yeah, that seems to be the reaction a lot of people have - and with good reason as he does look all toasty.
I think he looks cool.
He does, it's just a shame he's not as cool as he'd have been with some accessory storage and a chromed face plate.

Repaint his jacket to a smoking jacket and - with his cravat - he could be Ladies' Man Cobra Commander.

Not so much. Not this fan of the original. I left him sitting on the shelf with his silly jacket.
City Strike? Is that what he was?

Hrmm, i have one but i haven't opened him yet....He looks like he has the same head/helmet combo that the Best of 80s CC had, and if so, i have a spare chrome Bo80s CC head that's going on him. I don't really care for his torso choice though, i wish they would have used a slimmer torso, allowing for a smaller jacket.

Yeah, he's the City Strike Cobra Commander, according to the blurb. I thought the head design was a pretty neat callback to the classic look myself and the jacket is a little bulky but it's not a million miles from the original - and it's a lot closer than the more recent Commanders!

Yeah, it definitely looks more like winter wear than everyday casual...

Just put Best of 80's CC chromed head on him with the new wave 5 trooper helmet.

Well I finally got the chance to open him up last night, and I'm personally very impressed. I don't mind the "basic-ness" because Cobra Commander in my book should be basically dressed -- jacket, helmet, facemask, and cape all combine to create one sharp-dressed Commander. Definitely glad I picked this guy up.

Too bad he comes with a ton of rehashed 25th Anniversary accessories that he can't store anywhere on his body. They should have at least given him a sheath for his sword or a suitcase to store the compound Z canister he comes with.

Best of 80s commander will always be THE cobra commander for me. This would make a great miles mayhem with the right head. Great review.

I agree completely, especially as the 25th Anniversary Commander has his ''ceremonial'' sash and sword sheath.

I missed-out on MASK (too) but I think it would be a great line to bring back.

It's weird that I don't see many Joes round here now but when I do, he's usually the one (Arctic Destro is so common I don't even consider that a Joe sighting...)
