I've had this idea for a while, but haven't gotten around to doing it - yet. I wanted to take pictures of figures re-enacting various Marvel comic line covers. Obviously, you could only do so with the figures out (or make your own customs), but I was looking at doing #1 (obviously), 2, 12, 14, 19, 21, 24 and 30. These are the issues I have and can visualize them. Anyone else up to this challenge? If so, post your own pictures here.

Also, if anyone can point me in the direction of a free to download photoshop-ish program, let me know.

I like the idea of comic cover reenactments. If I do one, I'll let post it here.
You might want to try Adobe's new free web photoshop. Never tried it myself, but if you don't already have graphics software it's free to use and provides 2gigs free online storage too.
