I gotta say, I love how women are portrayed in the show. We have a bunch of really strong, cool women who have feminine qualities but are otherwise basically the same as the male characters. None of them are in there just as love interests or to appeal to girls and none feel like after thoughts. It is the first time with GI Joe where I desperately want all the female characters made into figures. The story from the show can't be translated to figure form without utilizing the female characters like Scarlett, Lady Jaye and Baroness.

Here's hoping we get a few more good ones before the show is up like a Zarana, a female Dial-Tone, Dela Eden, Mistress Armada, Pythona, maybe Chameleon?

Or speaking of a female Dial-Tone, I would be totally open to female versions of male characters like Wild Weasel, Copperhead....

Well said. I'd like a Renegades Jinx figure myself.

I don't see what's so different in the Renegades women from the other women in Joe.

Baroness has always been a "top dog". Same with Scarlett. Lady Jaye was always shown as a competant operative and not eye-candy.

Joe has always shown women as equals.

Joe has always shown women as equals.Personally, I could do without nearly every female character being part of a couple. It seems like there's always a push to make female characters either ridiculously hot (fiction in general) or romantically involved with another main character.

I'll put my vote behind Copperhead and/or Wild Weasel being converted to females as well. For some reason I really dig the idea of female pilots and drivers. Plus, in toy form, it would probably be easier to sell female figures that were packaged with vehicles, rather than being single carded.

Unfortunately, that's a lot of rubbish. The fact is that nearly every incarnation would fail the The Bechdel Test (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TheBechdelTest) miserably.

Although Renegades actually has more than two recurring female characters, the only two times we actually see two of them talking (Scarlet/Lady Jaye and Scarlet/Jinx) the subjects in question is Duke and Snake Eyes, respectively. And asfar as Joe always having been progressive, I need only point to the MASS Device mini, the first animated story, where the only conversation between two women is about Duke, but when they try to lead a slave revolt, they fail miserably and need the men to rescue them. Hell, Scarlet even needed DESTRO to save their lives after her first escape attempt nearly killed them both. The original series, in far too many ways, is pretty cringe-worthy in that dept.

While Renegades manages to do a better job than most of its animated predecessors in establishing female characters as capable involved characters, even the comic doesn't do that well.

You might argue this is partially justified in that it's the armed forces, but I even presented statistics awhile back that show the ratio of male to female figures in GI Joe is even worse than the American armed forces as they are today, which in itself pales in comparison to some other countries like Israel and the former Soviet Union.

Personally, I could do without nearly every female character being part of a couple. It seems like there's always a push to make female characters either ridiculously hot (fiction in general) or romantically involved with another main character.

New to fiction are we? If they aren't a couple on the show, believe me, some fanboy will make them a couple. See below.

G.I. Joe's never been super with equality, because it's true - romance has always been a sizable chunk of the focus when it comes to the female characters. But while it's not super, it's still pretty damn good in comparison to other cartoons/comics.

Don't even get me started on women in anime.

Sad but true.

So far, yeah, Renegades hasn't been too bad with the forced romance. Scarlett seems more gaga over destroying Cobra than over any of the guys, and Lady Jaye and Flint's screentime together hasn't really set off any romantic vibes. But in a shipper's mind, one character doing something like saving another character's life or being worried that another character could be dead means there's a legit love connection. Doesn't matter that Scarlett has never hit on Duke, because she looked a little sad when she thought he got blown up. That's real evidence! Are they dating yet?

Let's reverse the trend and start shipping the boys together! Duke/Flint, anyone? Roadblock/Tunnel Rat? Come on, people, don't look at me like that! It's for the sake of equality! ;)

Joe has always shown very strong women but you are correct, Renegades shows the female characters with a little more strength than has been shown before.

Too true. Heck, if they absolutely POSITIVELY aren't supposed to be a couple, some fanboy will make them so. See:

Optimus-Megatron
Sideswipe-Sunstreaker (bonus gag points for incest)
Crappy 'OC' Female Decepticons-Starscream
Anyone from Avatar: The Last Airbender
Anyone from an anime EVER

Thanks, Zef. The bubbling stew of wretchedness that is THOSE people are in my head now. Damn you.

Oh, come oooon, Megs must keep him around for some reason. ;)

In all seriousness though, I agree. Crazy TF shippers really make me ashamed to be a female TF fan sometimes. I mean, even though TFs are technically genderless robots and can't really be "gay"... the fangirls manage to find a way.

And yeah. ATLA shippers are the absolute worst. We should be glad the Joe fandom is mostly free of crazy shipping battles.

I think it'd be nice if they added Agent Helix.

Out of all of the incarnations of the Baroness, I have to say this is probably the coolest one and she doesn't have to reduce herself to skin tight leather to pull it off.

OOORRRR...rather than cock up exsisting characters by changing them...MAKE NEW F&^KING female characters. EXPAND the line...not just rehash old characters by changing genders. ethnicity etc.

The women in GIJoe & Cobra can be just as skilled & ruthless respectively as the men.I personally would like to see Mayday, Firewall & Heart Wrencher made into figures & why not even NEW female characters in the mix e.g Techno Vipers,Steel Brigade & Iron Grenadiers.

^^^ This. She still has that femme fatale/quasi-dominatrix thing going on, but it's more subdued and makes her less of a caricature.

Also, it helps that they have an actual Russian voice-actor (Tatyana Yassukovich) play her role. Her Slavic accent sounds authentic, instead of the "Rocky and Bullwinkle" style mock-accent from the old cartoons.

I agree the women here are portrayed much better than ARAH. Though, you wonder what Dukes relationship with Lady Jaye was as he saved her life and she keeps helping him out. Regardless, they have done a good job to not make it a focal point. As for more female characters they should bring out covergirl and Zarana as well as bring back Jinx.

To the Poster that said they should make Wildweasel and copperhead women. Those would be some seriously tough and unpleasant to look at women.
