hey guys, just come back to my home country of australia and seem to be at a loss...
where are the joes?
i`ve checked k-mart, big w, target the purple bears` toyworld and have come up with naught. Are they being sold anywhere?
Granted I havent checked toys r us yet, so hopefully i`ll come across some there.
the sheer lack of joes in big retail chains is astounding though. was easier to find g.i. joes in japan...

Hi friend. Welcome aboard. You might get lucky and find some at Toys R Us, but I'm thinking your best bet would be to try to find specialty comic stores or something like that. I've been all over the world and usually try my luck at finding Joes whenever time permits, and I have yet to find Joes anywhere but here in the 'States.
I'd bet you'll see plenty of the movie Joes when they come out though. Look at all the places you can find Transformers. They'll be carrying the movie Joes. If those work out well, perhaps the regular Joes will follow. Cheers.

OK so this is pretty much for the Australian HISSTANK members, I'm wanting to know where the rest of the Australian members here are getting they're Joe figures and vehicles from besides online.
Seeing here in Australia we don't have Wal Mart, ROSS and half the toy stores arn't interested in stocking any Joe series at all.

Not getting anything from Australia, only place I get figures from is Ratfink, Ebay and starting this week BBTS.

Yea fair enough, when ROC came out they made a short appearance in Big W, same as Target, also Toyworld but they were put out on clearance, besides that I haven't seen any anywhere else.

The only place I can say currently has any RoC stuff in stock in Sydney is HobbyCo in the Queen Victoria Building in the CBD.
They have wave 1 & 2 figs (Lots of Destro's, SE's, SS's & Breakers, a handful of other guys) a Crap load of Mole Pods and a few Sky Sweepers (The Firebat repaint)
Kings Comics in Sydney has carried PoC, but in very limited numbers and at very random times, I've managed to snag extra moneybag destro's, Shockie's and a few others but its not something you can count on, but I'm lucky in that I can check it during lunchtimes as I work pretty close.

Yea see I'm not in the city mate so it makes it even harder for me to grab my fix when I want it, what about Toys R Us in the cities?

I got a fuck ton of 25th Cobra Troopers and Cobra Divers from toys r us back about 2 years ago. Nothing since then. There are heaps of ROC on the shelves in Brisbane and Gold Coast Toyworlds/Mr Toys.
W.O. leroy
05-02-2011, 02:01 AM
During Roc they were around at Targat, K-mart, Big W, Toyworld and TrU, but all I can find now is some Roc and some 25th at TrU and they are ridiculously over priced. It is cheaper to buy them online even with postage and I think that's a little bit sad.
AussieViper
05-02-2011, 02:03 AM
Yea that is pretty bad really when you resort to online because stores are too dear...

Forget Toys'R'Us mate, I live round the corner from one in the suburbs and I check the Parramatta one as well pretty regularly, there's absolutely nothing in Penrith and the Parra one had 1 pack of Combat Heroes (the one with Bazooka in it) on clearance though plenty of the True Heroes stuff if your after Apaches, Blackhawks, Raptors or that sweet boat.
Of course I cant speak for the others around Sydney but I'm guessing their gonna be pretty much the same

Yeah man and it takes away the thrill of the hunt. Last time I went in there I was stoked to see Joes on the shelf and was half way through picking which ones i was going to buy then I seen the $18.99 price tag and literally said "what the f*#!" and walked out the store. I mean pretty much 20 bucks for a cobra diver or a blue barroness, come on thats extortion.
666Werecat
05-02-2011, 02:14 AM
They were like that $18.99 at TRU and then one day they were $3.50 just Cobra Troopers and Divers. I emptied the racks totally.
AussieViper
05-02-2011, 02:19 AM
Yea the day they were released in Australia they were on the shelf in Big W and I bought every action figure and vehicle and they didn't get anymore in after that, the came across a couple in a Target store and grabbed a few.
Your right about the price too, I remember December last year Toy World had a sale and the figures were going for I think $4/$5 and the vehicles were $10, so I cleaned up again with what I didn't have and grabbed a couple extra vehicles.

Spot on, It must of been Jan 09 when I first noticed 25th on toys'r'us shelves here, the vehicles were all on clearance at $24.99 for HISS tanks, VAMP's and the likes but the figures were still $17.99 each as I recall!, still I spent the next day driving in a huge circle around Sydney, visited every toys'r'us in NSW apart from the Central Coast one buying up every Cobra vehicle I could find

I got a butt load of Kamakura's at ToyWorld for 3 bucks each and got all the vehicles I wanted for 10 bucks. I was so happy to get ROC Wild Bill.
I now get all of mine online. Thats where all my 25th Joes. Or I traded on here.

I remember seeing a Toyworld catalogue when they had that $10 RoC vehicle sale, the closest one was a 3 hour drive away for me, I couldnt justify the trip there and back even at those prices.
Biggest surprise round here was when shopping in Aldi's. the German budget supermarket, came across RoC night ravens at $8 each!
AussieViper
05-02-2011, 03:33 AM
Night Raven for $8? Jesus...
Your right though, a 3 hour drive just for some cheap Joes isn't really needed is it.

I live in Tasmania. I have a toyworld store that stocked a bunch of RoC figures. They still have a huge bin full. They have been $2.99 each for about 12 months. Besides those I haven't seen Joes since the early nineties.
I get most of mine from here or the Evil Bay.

I have a custom POC viper officer that I will be selling soon if interested?
AussieViper
05-02-2011, 06:29 AM
Not really into custom stuff at the moment... Don't know why, some of the stuff I see is pretty cool.
What kind of collections do you all have? I got a few MOC 80's and 90's Joes, a few 25th on MOC and loose, a few ROC MOC along with MIB vehicles.
Exciter
05-02-2011, 06:38 AM
Exciter, what figures can you remember they have off the top of your head? They had lots of turtle Vipers, Destros, breaker, blue camo scarlet, accelerator suit (AS) ripcord, AS heavy duty, lots of storm shadows (I think mostly the one in the coat.) I didn't take too much notice, to be honest, I stopped looking through the bin weeks ago.
They also have loads of mars 3 packs. I think they are $9.99. All the cheap vehicles have been snapped up, though.
If there are any in particular you are looking for, I will be in town on saturday, I'll buy them for you if I see them. Give me a list and I'll see what they have.

What kind of collections do you all have? I got a few MOC 80's and 90's Joes, a few 25th on MOC and loose, a few ROC MOC along with MIB vehicles. I have a metric shit ton of RoC and a handfull of 25th and PoC and maybe 2 vintage figures.
I'm mostly just interested in uniform soldiers, so I loved the shit out of the RoC blue camo. And I buy anything that looks vaguely desert or jungle camo.
I buy a few ninjas or other figures that I think look cool, these just find their way into a drawer, though...
I try to avoid the vehicles though, they do nothing for me. I buy whatever PTE and other in scale military vehicles I can get my hands on.

I guess the bulk of my collection would be 25th Figures & vehicles, ARAH vehicles and everything POC, theres also a handful of modern era vehicles that impressed me like the Night Attack Chopper and its Cobra counterpart, and the DTC HISS tanks and the ROCC. I'm not really interested in collecting vintage ARAH figures so much.
Sideshow's 1:6 Joe stuff is starting to take up a decent chunk of space as well (that stuff is pure crack, I challenge anyone to pick up Firefly and not get hooked :))
I am a compulsive army builder first and foremost, theres just something about rows and rows of Cobra troopers that does it for me :D

This is what I have so far...
1989 MOC Stalker
1986 MOC Hawk
1990 MOC Stretcher with Command Ring
1991 MOC Tracker
1988 MOC Lifeline Tiger Force
1986 MOC Beach Head
1988 MOC Dusty Tiger Force
1987 MOC Crystal Ball
1987 MOC Gung-Ho
1987 MOC Sneak Peek
1989 MOC Rock 'n Roll
1992 MOC Gung-Ho
1990 MOC Tunnel Rat Sonic Fighter
1990 MOC LAW Sonic Fighter
Plus 25th figures, vehicles along with ROC figures and vehicles, all MOC and MIB.
I have a few loose 25th figures also which i'm thinking of getting rid of actually.

I only want red mask troopers and wave 3 red ninjas and a red ninja leader, I have got a custom Slice and Dice from RATFINK in the mail to lead them but would still get the leader from the pack.

I've got pretty much everything from the start of 25th till now. I'm just missing some of the hard to get stuff like the best of 80's dvd pack, Sgt Slaughter, ect. I've got some Spy troops figs and vehicles as well and a shit load of other stuff I've been collecting in 1/18 scale for dio's.

05-02-2011, 08:31 AM
Mate, check out viperskingdom on ebay, he's selling 5 red ninja's without the weapons for $22.99 US right now with free shipping, only 2 lots left
Im after green Range-Vipers and red Cobra Troopers and BAT's from the Resolute box set most of all, RoC surveillance port Tele-Vipers are high on my list as well. I'm going to stop army building with the 25th Viper and Blueshirts and go with the PoC ones from now on I think.
RoC Flash bodies as well (I like to use with the Viper head from the FANG/CLAW set as they look quite good in my eyes and stick random heads on the red Viper bodies left over and use them as Cobra medics)
Oh and a 25th Cutter for the Whale I just got but depending on whats on offer i can generally find a use for anything
AussieViper
05-02-2011, 09:02 AM

Cobra Viper V.16
Flint V.12 Tiger Force
Trip Wire V.5
Lt. Falcon V.4 from Comic 2 Pack
Duke V.28 Tiger Force
Flint V.14 from the G.I.Joe 5 Pack
Mutt & Junkyard V.8
Hawk V.3 also known as G.I.Joe Hawk
Snake Eyes Artic Trooper

well the only modern joes I've ever seen in the West was ROC. Last time I saw them was at a warehouse style sale where heaps of figures were $4 and vehicles for $15. If I collected any of that I would have smashed it but alas...I only collect vintage. I have stacks of ARAH vehicles including a Flagg, whale, moray etc, but I'm way behind on the vintage figures. I'm working on it.
Aussieviper I have a MOC ninja force snake eyes if you want to trade for loose vintage. he's pretty ugly I'll practically give him away :)
edit..I vaguely remember seeing 25th joes years ago but that memory is pretty shady, I might have been elsewhere in the world

AussieViper, I will take the 5 Pack Flint if it is still available.
I just recently bumped an Australian thread in the general discussion thread because there seem to be a few Aussies here now.
Toys R Us were stocking 25th Anniversary a couple of years ago. I had contacted Hasbro au and they told me they would be testing the waters with TRU to see if GI Joe was viable again. At $18 a figure that made it pretty hard to be viable but I did buy some Crimson Guards.

If the retailers would pull their finger out we would get pallets of them.
Unfortunately, I don't think GI Joe will ever be popular here again.
Just on vintage questions, I have a few that I need by other Australians.
1) I found out about GI Joe after seeing the Serpentor ad on TV. When was GI Joe actually released here?
2) Was the GI Joe cartoon ever shown on TV here? The only time I knew about the cartoon is when I saw someone with a video of the movie
3) Was the Flagg and Defiant ever released in stores? The biggest vehicle I ever saw here was the Moray. I remember a competition to win a Flagg on an ice block or something similar and it was the first time I found out about the Flagg

I worked at a massive vintage toy store for many years in Brisbane and I never saw a Flagg or Defiant. The only Flagg I've ever seen is the one I own. However I guy I skate with says he saw one on display in Sydney when he was a kid, you know when shops would display an entire line to get all the kids frothing on it.

Yeah I remember the Joe cartoon on Sat morning cartoons back in the 80's, and I also remember seeing both the Defiant and the Flagg at toy stores. My old man was going to buy me a Flagg because he was into Navy stuff but he couldn't afford it, I think it was around $110 back then which was a lot of money to my folks.

I was huge into GI Joe as a kid and I would have loved to have seen a cartoon during that time. I was heavily into the comics but only because I could find them.
I always thought the cartoon was never shown here. I am pretty confident it was never shown in Adelaide because someone would have brought it to my attention long before now

I never saw a Flagg or Defiant here as a kid or in the UK for that matter (lived there for a couple years from late 84 to early 87) but there must have been some sold here, I found a Defiant shuttle in some old couples garage sale in the suburbs with about 1/3rd of a Flagg in the bottom of a big box.
I can guarantee they had a Defiant in a Toys'R'Us in Singapore where we stopped on the way back to Aus as my mum still remembers to this day the tantrum I threw trying to convince them to buy it for me :D the box was bloody massive, could have put me and all our luggage inside it! So if they shipped them all that way it doesn't seem like taking a few more to Aus would be a stretch
As for the Skystriker, I'm aiming for 3 and the SDCC Starscream one as well, are any of you blokes Transformers collectors as well?
thomasseeber
05-02-2011, 10:40 PM
We (my brothers and I) got all our first Joes in 1986. I have since acquired lots of other kids collections with plenty of figures and vehicles from 1985. However, 1983 and 1984 items seem significantly rarer. I have never even seen a straight-arm figure in person, so I doubt they were ever in Aus. I seem to recall the cartoon being on TV before 86, but we didn't watch it. only discovered the movie at the video store in '88 or something and hated it :)
I never saw the Defiant in stores over here, but the Crusader was certainly around.
I collect a few transformers but mainly from the 2007 movie and later. I also collect vintage Voltron, but GI Joe is my first love.

Ive pretty much given up on Transformers now, apart from the Masterpiece stuff and some MIB G1 stuff, there's just too much out there to collect in any significant way for me. It blows me away how well the film worked out for the toy range, its a pity RoC didn't do the same but it seems that almost every movie tie-in ends up flopping in the shops nowadays. I still see those bloody Star Trek figures and playsets taking up room everywhere!
thomasseeber
05-02-2011, 10:55 PM
I think the issue is that the movies are pitched at teenagers and adults who, with the exception of collectors, don't buy toys. So a successful movie doesn't translate into toysales. Transformers had the animated kids series to boost kid's interest. I think renegades was meant to do the same for GI Joe but it's not showing in Aus, and even renegades seems a bit 'adult' to me.
back in the 80's the cartoons were for the kids, the movies were for the kids, and the toys sold arse-loads.

I've only got 4 transformers. Optimus, Megatron, Soundwave and Starscream. I have complete or near complete collections of TMNT, Thundercats, Muppets, Bravestarr, Voltron, Futurama, Family Guy, and heap of 501st clone wars figures and then heaps of various monsters.
What comics do you need Tom? I have a complete run of marvel's ARAH and a fair few extras.

I used to have the die cast Voltron but I gave it to a cousin. I wish I hadn't its going for a small fortune on ebay now. I used to love the old Transformers, I'm not really keen on the new ones.
I started collecting the comics at #104, I've managed to collect most of them since then but still need a fair few.

yeah when I think about all the toys I had as a kid, vintage Joes, Transformers, Micronauts, my 6 Million dollar man, they all ended up destroyed with lighter fluid, firecrackers and magnifying glass death rays when I hit my troubled teenage years *sigh*

I have my original complete plastic lion voltron with the box, but there is a funny story with it.
I was visiting my dad in canberra when I was about 5/6(parents got divorced when i was 2). He had some stuff to do and left me with his neighbors for the day. Their kid had both the lion voltrons, metal and plastic, and wouldnt let me play with either of them, instead he made me watch him play with both of them. I got fed up with it and ripped the plastic one out of his hands and ran out of the house. I panicked and threw it in the sewer and decided to run home to the Gold Coast. Didnt get far and got picked up by the police and spent the whole day in the station while they tried to find my dad. When he arrived I expected to get a hell beating but instead he took me to the toyshop and bought me the complete plastic lion voltron. Aah bribery, don't think i will ever let that piece go from my collection too many memories.

This is a very interesting point, what sort of kid didn't open their toys in the 80's? I can understand there being tons and tons of current stuff being around in another 10 and 20 years with the modern speculator market but if you want something from the 80's boxed its there, hell if you've got the money you can get an AFA graded one that looks like it just rolled off a Hasbro truck!
Was there a market for hoarding this stuff back then? Or are there really that many forgotten warehouses dotted around the globe?

I've come across a heap of guys when I did work at Pippins (a collectable toy store) that bought entire lines to resell at a later date. Have seen this for TMNT, He Man, Transformers, etc, collecting was way more lucrative back then IMO, as there was no internet to just look it up and have it in 7-10 days, it was worth there while anyway.

LOL thats a great story. I wanted the plastic one that could fit the figures but the metal one was great fun and tough as nails. I really wanted the vehicle one, I had a couple of the pieces, head and a foot and couple of others but I couldn't find the rest so I couldn't make Voltron. I heard they are talking about making a Voltron movie, that would rock!

I think some guys were stashing MIB stuff back in the 80's, don't forget GI Joe was around since the 60's and there was plenty of collecting going on before the 3 3/4 line even started. But yeah, I reckon most of the MIB stuff is stock that never sold, and was lost or in storage until someone hit the jackpot!
Some things could fall into the 'unwanted present' category too, but I'd say thats the minority.

Brilliant story! I remember my first Voltron...my parents asked me what I wanted for my Bday, I was too embarrassed to say it out loud, I had to whisper into my dads ear, I thought it would be way too expensive for my folks (I was one of 7). lo and behold he went and bought it for me! I was the happiest kid alive. Later I got the vehicle force too so I had both, and I played them to death. No literally, I played with them until they disintegrated. I only have my original black lion left, in a tragic state.
of course I've bought replacements since :)

Voltron is coming back with new figures that will combine in to a 2 foot robot. It will be available on mattycollector.

The collectors club mag is 15 colour pages, theres an article on scratch building a motorbike trailer for 1:6 scale joes, a couple of 1 page comics, a Renegades review, some pics of the new waves of PoC, a look at Hardtop the guy who drove the defiant crawler and a sort of datafile on Shipwreck oh and a joe version of twisted Toyfare on the back page. All in all better than I was expecting but its nothing to get too excited about, a nice bonus to go with my stupidly expensive bagged Dialtone I guess (when it shows up)
Now before I head to bed, I'd like to nominate Hugo Weaving to play Major Bludd and on the subject of dead hookers I will say that their much cheaper and far more willing to do weird shit than the live ones!

The figures will be 25th style versions of overseas joes and odd ones I think. They have confirmed Quarrel (Action Force Scarlett Repaint) and the Nano-Bat so far at the Joe Con last month
TheFallen

From what has been stated, the subscription will be 2 figures every couple of months. There will be 12 figures plus a extra free figure.
The figures will be unreleased or cancelled figures, International figures and figures that may not have been made in 25th style

Im hoping for a good helping of Action Force remakes, Id love to get a 25th Style Red Wolf to pilot my Roboskulls, a Black Major and Baron Ironblood would go down well too.
AV I looking forward to that Hazard Viper but not as much as these 3 guys, finally a Kwinn, now I just need to order that Dr Venom from the club!

You don't like the Data Viper? Not sure on it myself I like the figure but I'm not sure how well he will fit in with my other guys they're all 80's guys. Although i suppose he is super 80s science fiction movie villian.

The Data Viper is awesome!
I would agree that he isnt that 80's though more like 20 years in the future shutting down the opposing forces communications and electronics, their vehicles effectively disabled while having a total picture of the battlefield through drones, kind of like a guy playing an RTS on a PC only for real.... :D

I suppose he is a present day update of a televiper or technoviper, he just looks like something out of aliens vs predator to me.
I struggle when the weapons don't look like guns, but that wasn't uncommon in ARAH either!

Look at most of the PoC line so far you have Jungle Duke, Spirit, Shadow Tracker and maybe Firefly being directly inspired by predator and then you have big missile shoulder duke coming with a Colonial Marine Pulse Rifle and the new IG's packing those Marine Heavy guns so it does sort of fit.
From what I've seen of the DataViper I'm not sure if they are guns he's holding, maybe some sort of EMP device?
Ill have to check that SDS Quinn head as I agree he could be a little more full in the face, but look at those shorts he's wearing, and the shirt, am I the only one seeing a Steve Irwin custom in the making there? :)

The ebay id is viperskingdom, Ive bought dozens of lots from him over the last 2 years, think he's in Hong Kong, but generally always offers free shipping to Aus on lots of 5. Always loose figures though, but complete.
He also has a lot of cancelled fig's, he had a lot of RoC stuff that ended up in the PoC line either repainted or remodeled slightly like the Ripcord with the Wayans head sculpt that ended up as Skydive in PoC and the Zartan with the Vosloo head

Right ive been messing round with the camera all evening and these are a few dodgy photos Ive taken of some of my collection.
The missus and me only bought this house a few months ago and I'm only starting to to get to do my room up now.
I spent the last 4 years renting a shoe box in the inner city so almost everything stayed in boxes at the old mans house, and to be frank this is pretty much the first time Ive had to get it all out.
This is about a third of what i own out so far, I need to put up more shelves on the wall above the bookshelf with the Night Ravens on it and the old cupboard with the doors removed need to be converted into proper shelves,
The room used to be at the back of the house but somewhere down the line an owner put a big rumpus room on the back so my window peers into that which doesn't provide a whole lot of natural light to take decent photos with
Anyway have a look and see what you think

Yeah it's been pretty tough typing while trying to wipe the tears of joy from my eyes after watching the wedding ;) (despite my mild sarcasm I'm very happy for them, I'm glad it went off without a hitch and with good weather to boot)
I think we Poms were simply leaving you lot to do your thing in this thread (my Mum's an Aussie, so perhaps you can excuse my posting ;) ) and most surprisingly we've had a couple of weeks, including two bank holiday weekends in a row, with sunshine and warm weather so everyone's probably still outside in shorts manning the BBQs before it starts raining for the summer months ;)

That wasn't a bad collection there, mine is nothing like that, I don't have the room to put my things up around the place either so once I have my own place I'll work on a display room for my shit, but as you guys know I'm more into MOC and MIB stuff and all the stuff I have I have put away in storage in boxes for safe keeping.
I have about 12 ARAH MOC in clear shells for display, have a fair few ROC figures and vehicles, have a few 25th Ann figures and vehicles all in MOC and MIB, a couple Funskool MOC as cheesy as they look though, haha, have a 38 inch Star Wars Legacy Collection Millennium Falcon in box and have another in it's box which is still in it's Hasbro shipping box, both never been opened.
