View Full Version : How did you initially learned of the G.I. Joe 25th toys

To be honest, I don't even recall exactly how I learned about these 25th Joes. I don't think there was a toy add or commercial or anything like that. I just remember initially exposed to the 25th during the '07 San Diego Comic Con.

Then which lead me to the Hisstank.com.

I was just curious how everyone first learned about the 25th Joe line.

As I recall, I heard about them form some sort of divine messenger. Might have been an angel, maybe it was Hermes. Definitely winged.

i ran into the 5 pack one day outa nowhere and i luved it but diddnt have the cash to spend on it mind you this is before i was addicted so 30 dollars on a toy wasnt even part of my agenda so i left it behind and my girl saw again one day and bought it 4 me and thats when it all started for me with the 25th line

i collected as a child but was out of the loop for all those years
so it all happend on a whim that i got back into it so strong

I first learned about them from either Toynewsi.com or maybe wizarduniverse.com when they first announced the line. Then I eagerly awaited for the 5-packs and Wave 1 to start showing up! :D

Like CobraCollector I saw the Joe and Cobra 5 packs at a store. It was while we were in the toy aisle of Target. We were looking for Tonka's Chuck 'n Friends for my 2 year old. Then I saw the classic GI Joe box with Duke on the front. I picked it up all starry eyed and was like "This is so awesome!" Then I saw the Cobra pack.

I bought both box sets Cobra and Joe.
I planned on only buying those 2 boxes for nostalgia's sake.
Little did I know that was only the beginning!

As an aside, I collected Star Wars too as a child. The re-release of those figures never enticed me at all.

Yo Joe!

My wife told me about it. She saw some in wal mart one day. She knew I used to collect them back in the late 90's. Probably in Sept last year.

I was building a room on the house for my old toys, models, & guitars and as I was going through my old Joes I found one whose name I couldn't remember, so I searched Yahoo for info and came across YoJoe.com, and they had an ad on the site saying 25th Joes were back in stock at SmallJoes.com... So I went to Wal Mart looking for some and picked up a Destro, Duke, CC, Scarlett, SE/SS pack, & Torpedo... that was enough to get me hooked.

Did they ever stop releasing star wars figures?

I was browsing the TFW2005 forums when I saw a thread with the first images of the 25th box sets, and I mostly liked them at that time because I thought the boxes looked wicked cool.

Then I forgot them for a while until I saw the Cobra box set at a Toys R Us while looking for a CC Bumblebee. I then bought the box, fell in love, and then went back to buy a hooded CC and Wave 1 Storm Shadow.

But I still regret how I passed on a Flint which was right next to the hooded CC.

I learned about them from the reports coming from Toy Fair in Feb 07...

And yes they did stop releasing Star Wars. From about 86/7- July of 95. The rerelease of the Star Wars figures in 95 reminds me so much of how the 25th Joes are going... Except the Joes are going at a very brisk pace. Star Wars was only putting out maybe 20 figures per year for a while. Of course that number grew quickly, especially recently.

I found some at Wal-Mart last year (August?) while looking at the toy section with my kids. They thought I was nuts for buying toys for me instead of them.

Same as Facehammer, I saw the pics from TF 07 and kne I had to buy the two packs. Once I saw they were releasing single carded figures too, I had to get them as well.

I stopped collecting Joes right after the ECO Warriors (except for a Ninja Force Scarlett because I thought it was funny to have had my first and last figure be the same character) and then the 15th Anniversary I picked up Duke w/Silver Mirage Motorcycle. I saw all the Spy troops and the likes but the 25th captured my interest because they were the Joes I remembered. So now I own all the "Modern Era" essentially replacing the old school ones my Mother gave away long ago.

Read about them on Fwoosh. Only wanted to get my faves, Snake Eyes, Cobra Commander, and Destro (At the time only announced was the box sets and wave 1). Later saw Zartan and Shipwreck (more of my faves from when I was a kid). Saw pics of the released box sets and really wanted them, but did not want to spend the money to get my favorite Snake Eyes and CC (both v1). Called TRU and they held a Snake Eyes v2 and SS v2 for me. At that point I was hooked, and my wife was upset (she didn't understand what my fascination with Joes were). Soon after than I got the boxsets and did not open them. I saw Flint and figured I would get him and return him later, since i only wanted to get my faves. Well after they started announcing they were gonna continue on I was hooked. Decided to open my box sets and Flint. My wife has finally embraced my Joes, and I am not pretty much a completist. They are my favorite toys out now.

Right place, right time. I was fed up with waiting for the Beta Fighter from Toynami and decided to start collecting the mass pieces that Joes are. Then it was this fuss about the new line and I was hooked when I first saw them in person.

Same thing for me. Actually, it's exactly the same thing, kinda scarry. I loved the Star Wars Vintage line and when that went on hiatus I discovered these. Wish they would pump the Star Wars line out like these Joes.

I was checking out Hasbro's Official GI Joe website (http://www.hasbro.com/gijoe/) and saw that they were having 25th Anniversary Figures. They were revealing a new figure every week or so. I knew I'd be getting them then.

pretty much the same story...i saw the five packs and this was right after me and my wife had dressed up as SS and the B for Halloween...so i told her we could get the 5-pack and make a shadow box with our pic and the two figs (she loves shadow boxes)...well i slowly intruduced new figs to my shelf, secretly becoming an addict...till one day she came home from work and saw me customising them...the gig was up!

This is pretty much how I got hooked, except I was looking for the new TF Toys and at the corner of my eye I saw the old school card art, and it was Storm Shadow Wave 1...and was like, woahhh. this was my best friends Favorite Joe that HE NEVER play with, this and snake eyes, and but thats all there was left.....after that and since I have been hunting for joes, as its NEVER been an easy task to find Joes in So Cal....

thats also when i discovered yojoe and other forums dedicated to gi joe and that there really was other people who missed their childhood toys and were trying to reacquire them.

A guy I work with started talking about G.I. Joes one day, and brought up the 25th line. One day when I was in target I went to the toy section just to check it out. As soon as I saw the original art work and figures I hadn't seen in years I was hooked from then on.

I was looking through a Toyfare magazine at the Fort Bliss PX one day last summer...and there was an ad with this Cobra Commander pictured with even more articulation and better sculpting than any I ever remembered.
I didn't buy the first 5-packs I saw at Target a month later, but I couldn't stop picking them up and looking at them...hitting the theme song button on the logo LOL ...
I bought both 5 packs the 2nd time I saw them in a Wal Mart, then I hunted down Shipwreck, Flint, and a Cobra Officer the same week. Been hooked ever since October of last year.

Around Aug/Sept of last year I believe, I was wandering the aisles of TRU in Murfreesboro, TN. I saw a large display of GI Joes (which sadly, TRU seems to have scaled back the amount of space that GI Joe gets). In this display was a couple of pegs full of Wave 1. I got one of each, and found it odd that there was a Snake Eyes with white Timber as well as a black Timber. So I bought one of each Snake Eyes. I've been happy about that decision ever since!

Toyfare. I love TTT. Meco Spiderman rocks. I would get every issue to check up on my star wars stuff and read some of the other funny bits they have in there and saw the 25th Joes. I knew I had to have some. At first I wasn't planning on getting back into collecting but I got hooked after I got Flint and Snake Eyes. Next thing you know I got the Cobra 5 pack, Storm Shadow and a few more. And here I am. Collecting again. "Everytime I try to get out they pull me back in"

I actually got hooked after seeing the 5 packs in the store. That Strom shadow in the cobra pack made me have to get it. Followed by the joe pack. Just then series one was starting to hit. That was it for me.

I stopped collecting and reading toyfare after marvel legends died so i had no idea they were coming out.

It's amazing to look back on the original news of the 25th figures, as the articles I read only had word of the two five packs. I thought that would be all we were getting: Just a brief homage then nothing more.
It's great to be here a year later with so many superb characters added to the range (and vehicles too!).

I was 13 or 15 when I was looking through a KB toys and saw a wave one SE, I thought it was the coolest thing. Originally i pretended he was a zombie hunter until I learned about the G.I.Joe mythology and lore. I just fell in "love" with it and tried to get as many as I could. Then I realized that I had all the ones so far and decided to do an official collection. thats where I am today. :)

Toyfare is the BEST! Especially TTT, did you know that you can get them in book form, it is a nice anthology of TTT
