View Full Version : Original Marvel run.. Keep or Sell?

I have come to the conclusion that I am probably never going to re-read the original run in single issue format now that I have most the trades.
So what to do? They are just sitting in the little plastic coffins inside a long box. Should I sell them? As a lot? Piece them out (some are worth some bucks)? How do you ship them? How much do you think they are worth? I've got all the Marvel run in very fine to near mint state, all of the special missions. I would probably keep things that will never make it into the trades, like the Marvel Age issue that introduces new characters, the 3d ones, the annuals, the order of battles.
I have the DD run as well.

Kind of stuck in a rut. They are taking up space and no longer needed, but kind of nostalgic. But I could go either way on them.
Any advice is welcome.

I hear that some of the trades have error and the first issue is missing the back up story.

For me I am going to keep my floppies. Give the trades 5 years or so until they are out of print then they will sell for quite a bit.

I have every single issue of the Marvel US, Marvel UK and Battle Action Force comics and I think it's highly unlikely I'd ever sit down and re-read them again, but I'll be damned if I ever sell them.
The knowledge that they're there in my drawer is a huge comfort, and I just know that if I got rid of the lot I'd start re-collecting them within the year. Some of them, especially the BAF comics, are pretty near irreplacable now and I don't want to risk any regrets.

Trades just aren't the same.

I still appreciate the "floppies" for their covers, the letters page, the character profiles, the way they look and feel (and smell) and the memories.

Also, I wouldn't sell a collection until they've actually released the entired Marvel line in TPB - it would really suck if they stopped at issue 120 or something (due to poor sales, say) and you had already sold your collection of originals.

I'm curious to know what kind of offers you receive. I spent just under $300 to complete my Marvel collection (issues 60 - 155) eight years ago. I don't regret it but it would be nice to know that I could at least break even if I sold the entire lot.
