Howdy again tankers! Well, I've been kicking myself all week for not going to JoeCon, and by looking at the pics uploaded today of the con, I can tell it must have been extremely awesome.
Anyway, I plan to make up for not attending JoeCon this year by going to the Great Texas GI Joe Show in the fall. So I mean to ask you all,
Are you planning on going to the Great Texas GI Joe Show?
If any of you have been to the show before, is it a great con, or mediocre at best?
Their website directs you to their facebook page, so I'll provide a link for that if you want more info.

This is always a small venue, unlike Joecon.. last years sucked.. there were only two vendors that had 3 3/4 inch figures.. This is mainly for 12" figures even though they do accept all sizes of action figures.. Just saying from the experience of all the times I have been.. which is at least 6.
It is hit or miss depending on the year, if there will be a good turn out or not. I am hoping that with joecon being in florida this year that this will mean for a larger turn out to the Texas show.
Hmm

Can't wait, I made some good connections last year like Alyosha of Broken Arrow Toys.
He's a great guy and had SO MUCH goodness...everything from some 12 inch, to tons of PoC, RoC, and 25th anniversary, and Sigma Six! I was very happy.
He also has tons of custom cast 3 3/4 inch parts.

The problem is that vendors won't bring what doesn't sell. If your not there to shop for it, then they don't haul it. Show up, and let them know that's what your there for. It's not an instant fix, but it will help.
I know for certain there will be at least 4 vendors with 3 3/4 stuff there this year. They may not have what you want specifically, but 3 3/4 will be there.

Well ive been the past few years and if vendors dont think the small joes will sell during the biggest resurgence the lil guys have had in two decades then I dont know what I could say or do to make em bring more.
Last year the vendors just brought boxes of broken scrappy junk vehicles to dump off. There was almost nothing of quality that anyone would be looking for.
I hope this year is better cuz I want some vehicles.

Hey all,
Greg B. from the Great Texas G.I Joe & Action Figure Expo VII (Hey John!).
Glad to see a thread already going strong on the show. Was about to start one, but it seems y'all have been talking about it for quite some time, which is good.
This year, I've been pushing REAL hard to get more 3&3/4" dealers to do the show. Of course our anchor, Alyosha will be there, doing what he does best. We'll also have Matt Stevenson, who will have some vintage and new stuff to sell. Show veteran Louis Simmons will also be there, selling Joes. Newcomer Mitchell Glass e-mailed me his list and it includes a lot of large stuff like USS Flaggs, Terrordromes, Defiants, and the sort. One of our guys talked to Duncanville Bookstore and Comics last week and they're on board, with plans to bring in tons of vintage Joe stuff that they said they had piling up. Dallas Vintage Toys is supposed to be on board, as is May the Toys Be With You, from Houston.
Those are the dealers that we have slated for the show. There were a couple more that I met while at Texas Comicon a few weeks ago that came to us, interested in doing the show - we're just waiting for them to get back to us. They weren't pure Joe dealers - more like vintage 80's dealers that had RAH in the mix.
Needless to say, we're making an effort to bring some good dealers in with some variety of new and old. We just need to get the word out to 3&3/4" Joe collectors in the area to come to the show, for, as Alyosha pointed out, if they show up and people don't show up to buy, the next year, we're hearing crickets again. :-(
On another note, we are hosting two separate 3&3/4" custom figure contests. Rules and such are on the website and I'm currently working to source out prizes. One prize, however will be a Tom Feister Original G.I. Joe Character Cover of the Winner's Choosing to whoever wins first place in that category. Tom's the guy who's been doing a lot of the IDW G.I. Joe Origins covers lately and was generous enough to offer that to us, plus a few other things. Basically whoever wins first place in that particular category selects their favorite G.I. Joe character, and Tom will draw up a mock up Cover just for them and send it to them.
FYI - if you're planning on staying at the Sheraton next door to the Convention Center, good look. We found out the hard way that the hotel is totally booked for the LSU football game that Saturday night at 7:00 so we're scrounging to find another hotel to HQ at ourselves. Wasn't too happy with the Sheraton about that one...
I think that's it for now. If anyone has any questions, please feel free to post here on this thread or e-mail me at gbrown@whidbey.net. Thanks again for all your support - couldn't do it without ya.
Oh yeah - Drew - we still have some space for ya to be a dealer at the show. :-)

I know these guys personally.. they pretty much have stopped doing any shows other than Dragon Con.. but that is mainly due to the grudge they have with the 501st ST group. Most of these guys live in

Well, we wanted March, but that month became a warzone month for some reason in past years, especially this year, between Joecon and Joelanta. We did February year before last and didn't do so hot. We did summertime last year and did kinda worse, sales-wise. We're shifting the show to the fall so that we can hopefully settle into a normal season slot. We think September is just right - right after summer but not too late into Thanksgiving and Christmas. Who knows. Guess we'll find out in a few months, huh? ;-)

I like Ben's shows - don't get me wrong - but they're not a true action figure show. I hope to get ours to the point to where it is the equal of Joelanta in Georgia, but in the Fall. Because of the LSU game at Cowboy Stadium that Saturday night (7:00 pm), the Sheraton is all booked up. Because of this, the nearest hotel we could find was the Quality Inn off I-20 near the Highlands Shopping Center - http://www.qualityinn.com/hotel-arlington-texas-TX553 - kudos to the Arlington Convention & Visitors Bureau for helping us find the place too. To reserve your room, call 817-467-3535 and ask to get the G.I. Joe show rate. Should be in effect by now.
BTW - don't let this place freak you out. Is a nice place. Is smack dab where all the newest restaurants are and right next door to the best Mexican restaurant in Arlington (I think so, anyway). The Highlands Shopping Center isn't even 5 years old and has a Borders bookstore and a Studio Movie Grill - http://www.arlingtonhighlands.com/cms/index.php...

Thought I'd go ahead and post what the prizes would be for the Custom 3&3/4" Figure Contests since we just finalized it all yesterday.
We'll address the Military Category first:
Third Place is a Custom Cast Action Figure Kit/Project 1995 Redux Figure from Broken Arrow Toys.
Second Place is the G.I. Joe Club Direct to Consumer G.I. Joe 7 Figure Pack.
First Place includes color cover art prints of G.I. Joe: Origins, Issues 1 thru 5, signed by cover artist Tom Feister PLUS the winner gets to commission Tom to draw any G.I. Joe character of their choice, in color.
Now the Non-Military Category:
Third Place is G.I Joe Origins #21 and 23 Cover Art, signed by Tom Feister + IDW's G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero # 155.5, signed by Larry Hama.
Second Place is the G.I. Joe Collectors' Club Complete M.O.T.H. Set (all four sets).
First Place includes all four of the G.I. Joe Collectors' Club 3&3/4" Adventure Team Figure Sets (Land Adventurer, Sea Adventurer, Air Adventurer, Commander, Dr. Venom).

Drew, we have a couple booths left if you're interested in doing the show (or anyone else who's game). Tables are already booked up though. :-(
Magick, bummer on Cobra Cares. August? Only other show I know of is this weekend - stripcon.net - Dallas Webcomics Expo. No harm no foul though. We still have the 501st, the Mercs, and TMHS, so that should keep people entertained. ;-) Thanks for trying though.
We're all staying at this hotel since the Sheraton and other North Arlington hotels got booked:

Not the Taj Mahal, but we're not planning on spending much time there anyway, ya know. ;-)
Tom, glad to have your help too - bummer you'll be at Dragon*Con. :-(
Keep working on those customs, people - the more the merrier. Those prizes need to go to somebody. ;-)

The block of rooms that we had Quality Inn reserve for us have all been booked and unfortunately, we can't add any more, for the whole hotel is now booked solid (called and confirmed it with the manager). Best bet now is to check hotels.com and find a hotel nearby the ACC that best fits your budget and driving distance. Keep in mind that hotels near the DFW airport aren't that bad and the driving distance from there to the ACC is maybe 10 minutes via 360 southbound. Mapquest can do the rest. :-)

Also, please spread the word about the show on any and all internet media you can - the more the merrier. Facebook has been our greatest tool on getting the message out, as has our YouTube video. The more people know about the show, the better the attendance, the happier the dealers are, the happier the promoter is, the better chance that another show will happen the following year. :-) Remember - this is is TRULY by collectors for collectors (Stalker was my first Joe in my collection...)

With as much publicity as we've been putting behind it this year, we're shooting for 1000 or more. We're also hoping that since it's Labor Day weekend that people will be looking for something fun to do. As it stands, we have two tv stations nibbling on doing stories on the show on Friday, and if that happens, that really helps.
No tables left - just one booth left.

I may take you up on some inside info, but I live in West Texas and eat Mexican 4 times a week it seems. Oddly enough, we have a Albanian guy from NY that runs a place called NY Pizza in town (excellent stuff but stay close to a pooper afterward). BBQ? I'm from the motherland (TX!) so I'm pretty much use to quality there. What I can't get here in town is excellent Seafood (Red Lobster - blah!). So I always have to hit the Pappadeauxs.

Makes me wonder what the Defiant looked like that he sold and screwed someone on. He was way over priced on his stuff. Hell I picked up a 90% complete Flagg from the Joe Con in Frisco for $125.
I may just have to break down and buy a nearly complete Defiant. It would probably be easier than just trying to find a damn crawler.
