Just putting this out there, but something i have been thinking about.
with all the tragedy going on over in CHINA, witht the earthquakes and the flooding etc etc.
Have the factories that make Joes been affected?
Could this slow production?
Could it totally stop it?
Im sure GIJOES FOR AMERICA Are on the bottom of the pole right now, but probably right below, finding clean drinking water, and food right?---not
i am Not trying to start a "war" here, because i am not being inconsiderate, or iggnorant,
i AM concerned about the overall human and the overall economic tradgedy here,
BUT i am also concerned lastly about
JOES THAT HAVENT REACHED PRODUCTION YET
and other things that go with this

You know what...I haven't even thought of that yet. I hope they are ok so we can get more fresh products.

I have been thinking about that too, but I didn't want to ask here because I was afraid I'd look insensitive.

My bet is most of the stuff probably was in production all ready and is coming on the slow boat or in customs waiting to be sent out to the distribution centers.

I wasn't trying to say you were being insensitive. I was just explaining that I was afraid someone would think I was being. Your statement is fine.

Uh . . . Did . . .you just. . . ask if the earthquake will affect your monthly dose of Joes? I know I must have read that incorrectly. That is so wrong. I'm not judging you . . . too harshly. I'm just chuckling to myself at the type of things some people think about after a disaster.
It's like when you're girlfriend or wife gets into a fender bender, do you:
a) Ask if she's ok?
b) Ask if anyone else got hurt?
c) Ask if your car is ok?
This happened once to me. My wife gets home. Tell me the short and sweet. My first thought was, "Is the car ok?" But my first words were, "Honey, are you ok?" I felt quite proud of myself . . . but yeah, my first thoughts were of the car.
But the flip side too all of this I guess if you have no connection to the area, then all you can think of is something that does connect you to the area. In this case, your weekly or monthy crack.

He's on a GI Joe site asking if GI Joe might be affected. Leave him alone.

hmm good question.
I know that for the olympics it was proposed that all factories were to shut down to thwart pollution. Reference:
http://www.allroadsleadtochina.com/index.php/2008/04/07/east-china-province-gives-ultimatum-to-polluters-before-olympics/
As far as where they are manufactured I found this provincial article:

Hey, I was just chuckling. I'm not judging the guy. After he raised the question, I just thought to myself: "Hmm, I hadn't thought of that. Ooh, I'm so glad I didn't ask it first."

With all that has happened over in China, my heart does go out to all the families who lost a loved one. I also hope that the survivors are taken care of by their government.
On a side note, I read somewhere that Hasbro mentioned that all the factories came out in good shape and that production continues.

Ona side note, what are the factories like? (If anyone knows)
Do the employees get treated well, and paid a decent wage etc? I wouldn't feel right about buying Joes if the people making them don't get treated right...

A decent wage? Why do you think the factory is in China? If companies wanted to pay "decent wages" they would make them here instead of outsourcing work to developing nations. Remember the bad PR that Nike suffered when it came out their shoes were made in sweat shops? I think since then many companies are more careful about keeping things on a relatively fair and safe level, or at least they keep things really quiet... but there's no way to know, so just enjoy your figs in blissful ignorance.
on the topic of this thread, coming from Ohio, and growing up in various places that don't have earthquakes, I never really understood them until I went to Japan. The destruction they can bring is just insane, and the sheer panic they make you feel when one comes is something you can't put into words unless you've felt it. There's no warning, no sirens, no nothing, it just comes. I was lucky and didn't get hurt in the few I felt over there. I really feel for the people in China, and I hope the government and aid groups can do all they can for them.
ps. they're all working 24 hours a day because they're forced to listen to hidden messages in Cold Slither recordings...

The factories themselves are subcontracted out & run by Extensive Enterprises. Middle management are all CGs.

On a side note...I've been to China a few years back as part of a company that I used to work for. I went with a vendor of ours whose manufacturing facility was in China. This vendor supplied retail metal fixtures and shelving for many many many retail companies (this was a huge place). I can't name the province we were in (I don't wanna name names).
Anyways, the facility was the biggest thing I'd ever seen. There were actual dorms built into the place where the workers lived and slept. I don't know if the people ever left there. I'm sure they do, but it was just weird. There's no OSHA over there. Workers were wearing flip flops, shorts, no safety glasses and working on press breaks, laser cutting machines, welding, plasma cutting, powder coating, etc... Now, most of the workers looked older than 18, but there were some that looked younger. We were not allowed to ask the workers questions or take any pictures. Let's just say that the Chinese government ran a tight operation. I'm glad that we don't have to work in those conditions, and I can see why companies opt for oversees manufacturing. I know the definition of cheap labor.

I am thankful that i never have had to go through anyhig like that.
And its not like i would FREAK OUT if my joes were delayed,
or be like "awe man those chiense people need to froget about what happened and get get back to work "
Its just a simple question
i hope all the survivors get the help they need, especially the children.

Dude, you asked a good question. It's not like the earthquake happened yesterday.
I don't know this for a fact but I think most of the factories that ship stuff to the USA are located by the coast of China so to have easy access to shipping ports. The eathquake happen in the interior of China hundreds maybe thousands miles away.I don't think manufacturing was slowed or stopped.

Well I just got back from China. Most of the factories are near the Shenzhen or Guangdong area. These areas are about 10 hours from where the earthquake happened.
It is a very sad situation over there, but they have really come together as a country to help each other out.

DOC, this is a totally valid thread, and no one is calling you a jerk or anything. You made all your qualifiers in the first post. I'm sure there are many out there who thought the same thing. Don't sweat it. It would have been different if you had said "enough news about China, where's the America Idol coverage!?!?!"
