View Full Version : Doc at retail?

Is there any indication that Doc will be sold at retail any point in the future? Just wondering, because I would use some of an extra Doc for a custom or two I have in mind. I know with the original line, most of the original mail-only exclusives came out later carded. So I'm hoping the same goes for Doc.

I agree, I can't see Hasbro releasing Doc at retail.

The only mail-ins I know of that were later carded is Duke, CC and Bludd. After 1983 I don't think I've ever heard of a mail-in being released to retail.

I doubt we'll see Doc in retail.......unless you count Tuesday Morning in about 10 years or so (Isn't that about how long it took for them to get the Bat 6 pack mail in? :) )

i am sure as soon as they finish this line, the 25th will be done for good and they will focus on the movie toys.

Possibility of it being on retail outside US where the promo does not apply?

My guess is that Hasbro may put them up on HTS if its available.

Has anyone tried scanning his barcode at Walmart or Target? It would be really funny if it recoginized him but I don't think it would happen.

i don't think the 25th line will end with the movie it will just end up being gi joe modern era or gi joe universe, like with transformers, and we will get more original joes in movie packaging

after seeing a couple of store only figures pop up at normal retail from the star wars line
give it a year and they might release doc to the public

I don't think so. why would anyone get angry if he shows up in a comic pack or multi-pack as a repaint? everyone seems to have jumped to the conclusion that Doc at retail only means a single carded version that is identical to the mail away. sure, I don't think that will happen, but you can be confident that Hasbro is going to release the figure at retail in some form, it is their standard practice to get multiple uses from figures.

I agree he will show up later next year.

Maybe as an foreign or highly repainted release. But after spending 65 bucks on poorly repainted comic packs just to get the stickers for my first Doc and now waiting and wondering if they even got the redemption form, it'd be like Hasbro giving me the middle finger to release this exact same figure here in mass retail.

Well I didnt waist money on the Comic packs i wanted those figs.....so Doc was just an added bonus........Like we werent going to buy Breaker......The twins......Dreadnoks......we needed those guys.....

I'm talking about the first wave of Comic Packs. The only figures that were true abundance for the longest time around here. I didn't have the luxury of waiting for waves 2 and 3 at first to collect my first set of stickers. Had I known that wave 3 would be clogging shelves I'd've just waiting and built up my Fred/Trooper numbers.

Yeah, I figure he'll be released as part of a multipack or playset.

I think we have an emotionally abusive relationship with The Bro so it would not surprise me if Doc showed up at retail in one form or another--probably a multipack. My guess is the two action figures would have subtle differences, but still a lot of people would be mad they went through rigamarole to get Doc only to have The Bro release the character at retail.

Hasbro is notorious for this. There is still considerable controversy in the Transformers fan community over the G1 Classics BotCon Seekers last year, which now Takara is releasing in Japan (well, Thundercracker and a better painted Skywarp) which has sent several TransFans into Con-niptions.

Of course, I also agree with the guy who said the 25th/Moderns are done once the movie hits, 'cause after the movie apparently there will be another stab at a cartoon, and the toys will be based on that. In a way I'm kind of glad 'cause it is the packaging that sells the 25th/Modern Joes to me and as soon as they scrap that I'll go back to just getting some here and there instead of getting one each MOMC.

Doc @ retail = biggest pegwarmer EVAR !

minstrelboy
05-27-2008, 01:10 PM
Bigger pegwarmers than Cobra Commander or Buzzer? I don't think so. But why would anyone get upset because something that was exclusive becomes readily available to everyone? I don't see the logic in that - other than wanting to be able to wave it in someone's less fortunate face. There are too many people out there that treat this hobby like a competition.

And hassle to get Doc? I remember it being fun as hell when I was kid to save up battle points and send away for something and then have it come in the mail. When I opened up my first comic pack and read the ransom note from Cobra Commander, it took might right back to when I was a kid. I thought it was great and despite still not having received my Doc yet, I hope Hasbro does this some more. Too much of this kind of crap takes kids back to the internet. With this, they didn't need anything but the stickers, and envelope and a stamp.

I wonder how many Doc's will be left 'unrescued' when the offer closes? Maybe Hasbro will slip them into some future wave just to get rid of them...

I have not received my Doc yet and I sent out shortly after the promotion started. Hasbro has yet to respond to my emails so I hope he is available at retail.

well look at it this way, with the star wars figures that were once exclusives, they've showed up in the saga legends line of course no mail away has yet, but hey you never know

It wouldn't bother me. I would've bought the comic packs anyway, so what did it cost me? $4.95? I hope all my fellow collectors can get & find everything they want. It would certainly kill the ebay people, that's for sure. And since when is that a bad thing? One seller has it for a "Buy it Now" price of $500. Seriously? $500??? Half a grand? For his sake, I hope it comes out at retail next month...

I checked my bank account today, and the check for my Doc was FINALLY cashed in. I guess another 6 weeks, and I should have one in hand.

Some Asian countries are selling Doc that they got directly from the manufacturer & not from the promo.

Personally, I'd like to see all the figures that didn't initially get a single card (Doc, Ripper and Torch, Wild Weasel, Grand Slam, original Baroness, etc.) eventually all get released individually. But that's just me. I know some people will get upset, like, "I don't want to HAVE to buy another so-and-so", but the beauty is - you DON'T have to. Leave it for those that do want it, and stop complaining so much. Any Joes are good Joes.

I think they should release Doc, but with a different color (maybe all olive drab?) scheme.

The last time I checked Doc is single carded
