I hope they remain separate from, but affiliated with, CObra. I like the idea of the Noks being sort of hired mercenary thugs, who like being able to do their own thing most of the time.

I can imagine Zartan presenting the Noks to the Baroness as potential Cobra employees, and the Baroness kind of saying, "ehhh, thanks, but no thanks." I'd think she would consider them too wild and unpredictable to be full Cobra members.

I think the same thing happened after I saw EOME and Homecoming. I'd put this episode right up with them, in terms of my favorites so far.

Yeah. I'm very happy that Zartan will be the only one with the suit. Didn't Mindbender even say that the suit's technology was beyond his understanding, or expertise? So I guess Cobra can't really reverse engineer it.

Oh, and it's cool that the suit is also now bound to Zartan through DNA.

Zartan got legitimately badass. Loved the bit with the tracker and the squirrel and snarky Lady Jaye (and I hope Wild Bill sticks around with Flint and Jaye, at least for the time being).

Man, nothing good ever happens to a Jeep once Flint touches it... they're going to stop letting him have them...

I LOVED Roadblock in this episode. Particularly the RB/TR interactions and the smelling-out-Zartan.

Also loved Snake Eyes. Everything he did this episode.

PS, Renegades, if you would like to continue teasing things I 'ship, more Destro and Baroness, please... but thanks for giving me a couple little things to grin like an idiot over when I don't expect them.

This is the Zartan that I was waiting for and not the one that got punked by the portly sheriff.
The origin of the camo suit was a nice touch plus the raccoon eye patches. Classic!
The cameo by Will Bill was surprise. I like how he was characterized. Definitely would like to see more of him in future episodes.
The writers really stepped it up and delivered one action packed episode. The look on the Baroness at the end was priceless.
I can't wait the next episode of Renegades!

That's really downright tragic what happened to the scientist. I mean, he invented something that even Mindbender seems puzzled by, and now his mind is ruined? Almost seems like he could have been a good guy equivalent to Mindbender. Maybe the Joes will find some way to reverse the effects of that mind-scrambling suitcase, and gain a brilliant scientist as an ally.

I agree that the gray, light blue portions of his suit are a bit odd. The hood and chest armor are perfect, IMO. But who knows, his look could still be evolving.

But I think we can all pick it out just fine. So why don't they use the voice actor of the person he's mimicing, instead of a relatively poor imitation?

um...they do use the voice actor of the person he's impersonating. He talked as Tunnel Rat for quite a bit. And as Duke there towards the end.

It seems he doesn't do female voices well though.

I JUST figured out why Cobra wanted a one-of-a-kind chameleon suit.

Namely, so that the Commander would no longer be confined to the holographic trickery he uses to disguise himself as Adam DeCobray. Then he could actually mingle and keep up the disguise all the better.

Kudos to the writing team!

I was glad to see how the show handled the way Zartan became the character the fans know and love. I'm also glad the show didn't tie him to the Arashikage clan the way Marvel/Resolute did...though I wouldn't mind if he showed off some badass archery skills.

I think they had them talk differently so the viewers would recognize when Zartan was in disguise. Also, I believe when in disguise, voice actors change. I think they just talk in a more grumpy and brutish tone.

don't forget his horrible impersonation of shipwreck during the spy troops fiasco. come to think of it I'm surprised the sunbow team never tried to do an infiltration episode. Have Zartan sneak onto G.I. Joe headquarters and disguising himself as several different joes to steal the plans to some new top secret project.

after watching this episode finally, I gotta say I have mixed feelings about Zartan's look. I like the suit but I still don't get why his facial hair disappears and the burn marks on his face look kinda weird to me... he kinda looks like the hamburgler... it would have made more sense for his hair to burn off actually...

I'm very curious to see how they handle the figure. Might they incorporate some kind of color changing feature on that unusual blue-gray portion of his outfit? I can't help but think that there is something special intended there, that goes beyond just changing up Zartan's look for the cartoon.

Definitely enjoyed this episode. I like how they're slowly intertwining all of the stories and telling new versions of origin stories. I like the way Renegades is shaping up.

On the other hand, I totally despise Transformers Prime. I thought they had moved away from the whiny kids (well down to 1) in TF: Animated. However, they are convinced that children (and adults) need children in the cartoon to relate to 2-story robots. That we can't bridge the gap between us an them without the children there.

One of the better episodes. I do have one HUGE criticism - the lazy writers who use SE to move the story forward for the Joes. He magically follows the Baroness without explanation. He somehow taps into the Cobra frequency to allow the Joes to know Cobra's plans. He shows up at the perfect moment to save the Joes. He finds the tracking device just as Flint is preparing to move in. And in some episodes, SE seems like an advanced martial artists, and in some like this one, he is a magician - grabbing Joes and throwing them on his motorcycle in ways not humanly possible. SE is the answer to every writers problem!

Even with that, great episode. It will be interesting to see how Cobra uses Zartan. They are amassing a lot of named characters that we haven't seen in a while but are due to show back up again.

Nice to see Wild Bill - not cool to see him shot down. Where was that auto-gun firing feature a few minutes earlier when the Joes were pinned down? Another contrived device that we will likely not see again. But I do hope we see Wild Bill's helicopter again - in toy stores!

the goatee and his eye brows went away as soon as the hood appeared and was still gone when he reappeared at the end before getting the burns but as soon as baroness turned him back into his orange jumpsuit he had his eyebrows and beard again..... strange...

I always enjoyed Zartan in Sunbow because he was an absolute. He was just a master of disguise, had an extra chameleon ability that only direct sunlight could rob him of, he enjoyed scheming, and he had some flunkies about to make him look good in comparison.

Part of me likes seeing the evolution of Zartan here in Resolute, but another part of me thinks he's just Wraith now (punk in a suit).

I always preferred Zartan just putting on a mask and change of clothes. This holo-tech stuff, guess it started in the old Marvel Comics, it never did anything for me. Then again, thank god he's not a ninja and it was great to see he's no match for Snake Eyes in a fight. So, I got big mixed feelings here. I just want Zartan to be Zartan. Still not sure we're there yet.

It looks like things are definitely shaping up for there to be plenty of factional infighting within Cobra, which is great.

It looks like the tension between Baroness and CC has been steadily growing, I could see her leaning more and more towards Destro in a possible faction against CC.

In terms of Zartan, I'm wondering if he'll be more an agent of the Baroness than of CC, per say. Kind of like Major Bludd seems to be a mercenary that the Baroness hired off of her own list of contacts, and who CC might not really have any connection with, so far.
Also, I don't think CC and Zartan are going to be very chummy, after all CC was very eager to get that chameleon suit for himself (probably so he could go out in public as Adam DeCobray), but Zartan essentially robbed him of that opportunity. I don't think Zartan will ever be able to make up for that.

I never even thought of that - but my boys and I are watching it again right now and my oldest son said - hey Dad, is Heavy Duty's first name Hershel? I told him to go get his file card and look. I don't quite know why Flint is riding around with Zartan instead of making a deal in prison, but what ev. Calling in Wild Bill for air support is cool. He's nicely used in this episode and looks good. But this episode is a reason to bring Zartan into Cobra and it does that. I like that Zartan has a sweet two part intro like Destro and Storm Shadow. That is neat. Zartan builds slower and grows more over the two episode introduction than the other baddies have thus far.

I'm a Zartan fan in general and am here in the Renegade world! Zartan is cool and his powers make sense with a little technology thrown in. This is more fun than pumping him full of nano robots.

I hope they remain separate from, but affiliated with, CObra. I like the idea of the Noks being sort of hired mercenary thugs, who like being able to do their own thing most of the time.

I can imagine Zartan presenting the Noks to the Baroness as potential Cobra employees, and the Baroness kind of saying, "ehhh, thanks, but no thanks." I'd think she would consider them too wild and unpredictable to be full Cobra members.Funny! I agree that they don't fit in with Cobra but they might make good patsies if Cobra doesn't want to harm their public image.

Hope the writers think of how Zandar and Zarana get their camoflauge abilities too, that is if they decide to even bring those two into the Renegades cartoon.I'm hoping they don't show up. If they have to, then keep them more down to Earth. Zarana's a clasically trained actress and Zandar's that guy who's face you can never remember.

Really? Because in the review clips where Zartan is being Tunnel Rat and Duke, I could immediately pick up that his voice wasn't the same. If it was the actual voice actor, there wouldn't be any difference.Well, you have to remember that this Zartan isn't a master of disguise. He's just a thug who likes to mimic people's voices. I like that he's only somewhat competent at disguising his voice.

I was glad to see how the show handled the way Zartan became the character the fans know and love. I'm also glad the show didn't tie him to the Arashikage clan the way Marvel/Resolute did...though I wouldn't mind if he showed off some badass archery skills.Yeah, I'm also glad that Zartan appears to have no ties to Snake-Eyes past.

after watching this episode finally, I gotta say I have mixed feelings about Zartan's look. I like the suit but I still don't get why his facial hair disappears and the burn marks on his face look kinda weird to me... he kinda looks like the hamburgler... it would have made more sense for his hair to burn off actually...Yeah, I'm not crazy about the burn marks either.

The roc zartan had his good and bad points. I thought the acting was well done but didnt care for the straight up kill the girl for no apparent reason. Would have liked to see him in some type of outfit but im guessing that will be part 2.

I just went back and watched all the episodes in actual order. May I suggest to anyone who hasn't yet to do so. It just a better show in order. the story line is so much more fluid, and the action to drama is much smoother.

it covers his body like its alive. exactly how a hand held device would have microfibers (or whatever you would call mini fiber optics) that can be programed to cover someone when activated. James Bond would use this in a movie in a heart beat.
Then there is the bonding with his DNA. DNA is our genetic finger print? So a suit that they wanted one prototype made, and burned the creators brain, and blew up the lab so more wouldn't be made, of course came with a key that only the commander could turn.

If you watch the original Zartan episode, he looks like he is almost as tall as roadblock.
that is why the suit looks big on the commander later.
I give the writers tons of credit for the details.

I really liked this episode. Zartan has always been my favorite Cobra character, and Renegades has really done him justice I think.

RoC did too actually. Zartan was pretty much the only thing I liked about RoC actually.

I've been pretty lucky with Zartan always getting a good treatment. I think a part of it is that he has such a cool premise that it's hard to screw up.

I was watching it with my gf and she was like "man the joes are loosers" because Zartan kept getting the better of them (well everyone actually). I like that they're portraying him as this slippery, conniving weasel that's seems to get the better of them. I like when heroes have formidable opponents. Makes for more compelling story telling when the one you're rooting for eventually beats 'em out.

I kind of hope that he doesn't have the ragged looking eye marks forever. Maybe he puts on eye black to hide the burns or something, just to make it look more like the original look. It's a really small complaint though. If it doesn't change I'll still like his look, and man, I cannot wait for an action figure in this get-up.

I've been wondering a lot about the suit too, but ultimately, I kind of hope it retains a lot of it's mystery in the show. Even if the writers do actually have a pretty good explanation for how it works, I don't necessarily want to know too much, except maybe in some special feature on the eventual DVD where the creative team talks about some of the more bizarre sci-fi tech that appears in the show. That might be cool.
