i agree with you 100 percent, even at the con, they really don't seem to do much, unless it involves making money off us, i wish we did have more of a real club feel, since all of us that are real collectors in it for the long haul will always support joe, speaking for myself of course, we should have more of a club feel, maybe even have it set up in differant regions and parts of the state, like the star wars club does, they have monthly get togethers, just to shoot the shit, drink some beer and do some tradses and show off there good finds, the hisstank does a far better job of feeling like you are part of a club thab they do, there should be some kind of voting system on some things, at least ask a poll on things, it all comes down to money like anything else.

For DPrime and others. Not to disrespect at all, just wanted to show you that the A.S.P. does indeed fit the 25th scale. Don't assume:

Thanks, at least It wasn't just me. I can see others on here debating that they are just a business, but then again, they are missing the point. I can see them saying that they do not owe us anything, but after all, we are the reason that they are in business. If there was more of a club feel, people would join by word of mouth and a sense of support would come. They would not have to survive on the annual figures and convention sets. There would be more members. That is one thing the the Canadian Club shows, that they have passionate fans and are not all about business. The membership dues alone should foot the bill. Unfortunately, the G.I. Joe Club is a very small club. I wish that things would change. I know that they do a lot of hard work in giving us toys that we want, but yet, there really is no membership feel.

The o-ring stuff is just as tight as they are bulkier. Shorter, yes, but bulkier. The head on the o-ring stuff barely fit the h.u.d. interface and sticks out higher. It looks goofier and not as comfortable.

The fact that they are already releasing a SECOND Dial Tone figure as ANOTHER "Exclusive" figure not available to people outside the ultra-narrow collector's market, is reason enough for Hasbro to man up and give us a mass market Dial Tone figure.
If they REALLY cared about preserving the magazine's "exclusive" nature of it's Dial Tone, then the JoeCon 2011 set should NEVER of been allowed to include a Dial Tone figure. It should have been spiked and replaced with another Python Patrol figure.
As it stands, they've already proven that their "exclusivity" defense is BS and should capitulate to those of us who don't walk in the hardest of the hardcore fan circles and give us Dial Tone, much in the same way that they gave us the Seekers from the infamous Botcon '07 set. BUT QUICKER, since they've got NOTHING to gain by dragging their feet on it.
Add Dial Tone to the upcoming waves of POC figures and hell, if they are anal retentive about maintaining the illusion of exclusivity (which has already been broken thanks to JoeCon), take the fanclub Dial Tone figure and change the color scheme so that it's Dial Tone in his Sonic Fighters re-release color scheme. Or (if they want to give casual fans something to make up for this huge screw-up), give us Dial Tone with TWO heads for the mass retail release: one with mustache one clean shaven ala the 2000 Hawk/Dial Tone release.
In short, they've already shown that by including Dial Tone in the JoeCon set, that they don't care about keeping the figure "exclusive"; so they'd be better served saving themselves the same hassle they suffered over Thundercracker and give the casual fan what they want: a mass release Dial Tone.

Hmm, good to know!
Honestly, I just never tried. Just assumed it wouldn't fit, given how difficult it was to put RAH figures in the ones I have.
Still, the main thing for me, is that the Club usually tries to do something new. I'll be disappointed if the exclusives are just the same as the '89 stuff - wouldn't really be "exclusive" if that was the case.
Seems like a great idea for a Target 30th Anniversary release though, like how they did the Conquest and then the Python Patrol Conquest after that.

I don't understand your argument... Yeah, it's the same character, but it's still a completely different figure. In fact, they seemed to have gone to lengths to make it even MORE different than it could (perhaps should?) have been, given that the original Mission Brazil Dial Tone was just a straight repaint of the original...
And the whole "club" argument... I don't get that either.
Yeah, we pay for it... We pay for the opportunity to pay more to go to the con, but they give us figures that otherwise would never see the light of day, not to mention organize the Con every year.
What are you guys complaining about? I know that I'd rather have the Club than not...

But if the club gets TWO count them TWO different versions of a character who will apparently never get a retail release, fug the club and fug those crybabies pissing and moaning about their "exclusive" not being exclusive.
The existence of the JoeCon box set Dial Tone should be reason enough for Hasbro to role out a mass market 25th Anniversary Dial Tone to stores. It's unfair to those people who DON'T join the club and CAN'T drive to the convention and shell out an additonal $300-400 bucks for the box set to be denied a popular character like this.
Hasbro shut man up and announce a mass release of the figure because the existence of TWO different rare exclusive versions of the character means that he's not really fugging exclusive is he? So as a sign of them learning from the Thundercracker debacle, they should give the figure a release EVERYONE can get and the club/convention people can take comfort in the fact that there will be at least ONE version of Dial Tone that everyone can own while you guys get your two exclusive versions....

As for the club itself, Hasbro does a really horrible job with it; unless you were knee deep in the internet GI Joe community, you wouldn't even know it existed. Frell, the Transformers club is widely seen as a joke, which goes to further show what trash they are and serve no real purpose in the grand scheme of things.
They should stick to what they did with Doc if they want to sell exclusive figures to the fans. Mail order and points/UPC clipping. Not for a fan club most people don't give a crap about or even know existed. Or flat out tell the club that you don't get exclusive figures so much as "get them six months early" as far as them getting a mass release and the club getting a chance to own them earlier ala early ARAH mail-ins that were quickly streamlined into the retail line.
Hell, if Hasbro were really concerned with their fans, they'd make their club's exclusive figures AVAILABLE YEAR ROUND so that fans can get them all through the year in terms of not limiting when they can join! Say, if you subscribe within a year's period, you get Dial Tone and pretty much limit subscriptions to one per person and address to kill off scalper scum! For one entire year they will produce Dial Tone and discontinue him once that year is up, then move onto the next exclusive figure. OH and advertising well in advance what the next year's figure will be, and not what they did with Dial Tone where no one knew he was coming in advance!
None of this BS that the club current does: you have like one month to subscribe and get the figure and any subscription AFTER the period gets you the next year's subscription. That's BS and should be done away with.
The whole set-up is bogus and Hasbro should fracking use the Dial Tone debacle to fix things, since as they saw with the Thundercracker fiasco, fans WILL NOT let this go and it will haunt them and bring everything down until Hasbro submits and gives the real fans a proper chance to get Dial TOne without having to pay rape dollars to the first Ebay scalper they come across....

Personally, I think Dial Tone is completely appropriate as an exclusive. If this figure were a general release, it would be on a PoC card and would have ended up as a peg warmer. This figure simply doesn't have the mass appeal of many others. He is pretty much on the same tier as Low-Light but doesn't have all the cool accessories to go with him.

I haven't read all 52 pages, but 52 pages about Dial Tone and arguments spun from Dial Tone.
If you missed out head on over to the club site and pick up a few Heavy Water figures and join the club it's worth every penny and next time you won't be bitchin.

Of course, the entire so-called "debacle" is nothing more than cheap ass fans playing the "entitlement card". The membership incentive Dial Tone has been known about for MONTHS. If you didn't get signed into the club, you can't blame anyone but yourself.
The club figures are financed by THE CLUB, not Hasbro. And if anything has been proven with the infamous Botcon 07 set is that Hasbro can (and probably WILL) revisit characters and concepts from any con set, and in all likely hood, end up offering a superior product.
The Club double dipping on Dial Tone DOES NOT prevent Hasbro from using the character in a future release. But of course, "real fans" have no patience and want all 82-87 figures remade RIGHT NOW.
For $5 a figure
On retro cardbacks
And at Walmart on an exact date
And if Hasbro can't provide, then they are clearly out to screw real fans of GI Joe!

1. While the people who were subscribers of the magazine DID know about it, it wasn't known outside of the ultra-narrow circle. Most people I know didn't even know about it until the JoeCon carded version was announced, which shows you how irrelevant the fan club magazine is if THAT is the first time people are hearing about him being released, in terms of how the fan club magazine is made of fail....
2. Hasbro could have negated this ironically and still kept it "exclsuive" if they had done this: rather than releasing classic Dial Tone careded at JoeCon, announce that they were ammending their plans for SDCC: Zarana was now going to be sold in a two-pack with Dial Tone (with a new and unique recoloring of his uniform) and the black variant Zarana would be sold with a Sonic Fighter repaint of the exclusive mold.
Since the SDCC figures are generally made in large numbers, EVERYONE is happy! The real fans can get Dial Tone (and/or a variant of him) since the SDCC figures are rather easy to find compared to most exclusives and the fan club members can take comfort in knowing that their version is the only "classic" version of Dial Tone out there.
3. I don't care about the retrocard design or $5 price tag (as I've accepted the fact that a single card Joe costs $7-8) and the Wal-Mart thing is just plain silly......

I'm not so sure it would peg warm. He's essentially a 25th figure, so that is what would appeal to a lot of collectors. Had he been released during the peak of the 25th line I would probably agree with you. But, since 25th is long over it's one of the few things 25th that is new like Zarana.

On that note I know the club is separate from hasbro but if they let the club advertise on the backs of the cards they must be getting $$$ or are interested in keeping the club going

first I have been on GIJCC for a few years before I heard of HissTank.com.
second on the GIJCC they have been talking about dialtone for a while now, at least 5-6 months. not 30 days then they ran out. It was a rush at the end cuz all the people waited till almost at the deadline date to get in.

Everyone had 1 year to sign up and get a Dialtone. You sign up for $42 bucks and get a Dialtone figure, 12 gi joe magazines, and most important they have really good deals on figures like 25th Doc for $8 bucks at one point & you also save on the club exclusives. Great deal IMO...

lol, well, that's the collecting game!
because life is fair and equal and you deserve everything everyone else has. now get in your bread line and hope you get a piece without mold, but at least everyone is only eating bread.
Is it white bread, wheat, honey rye? Some of thore special breads you can only find at Subway? I need more details so I can debate this in my mind for the next eight months... And then pass on it. Then when the next hype storm comes, I'll be the one complaining about how they didn't make enough bread for me and my loved ones. [...Don't assume any of you are my loved ones...]
For DPrime and others. Not to disrespect at all, just wanted to show you that the A.S.P. does indeed fit the 25th scale. Don't assume:

Keep in mind, not every figure will fit. The basic trooper and similar body types do though. Maybe the Viper... Anyway, I could see it being an Alpha release Trooper and ASP some kinda combo Echo Stinger/ASP with driver and pilot.

I think what he is saying, what those of us on the "Why did you wait?" side are arguing is that hype is the only thing making this figure so popular. As a mass release, he'd wound up like the new Dusty. But as a Club exclusive, those of us that really wanted him were able to add him to our collection. Assuming, of course, that we didn't wait... The Club did us a favor that Hasbro wisely opted out of.
